Drew Bennett vs. Isaac Bruce (1 Viewer)

only 1 out of 15 of the staff have Bennett ranked ahead of Bruce (Norton)

only 1 out of 5 of the staff projections have Bennett projected ahead of Bruce (Smith)

yet every mock i'm in Bennett goes first, and according to his average ADP on this site, Bennett is one spot ahead of Bruce (WR43 and WR44)

who's correct here? Staff or the Masses?

Bruce looks to be great value this year. I think the staff has this one right.
can't say i disagree, it's just surprising to see Bennett so consistently get taken ahead of him March 5, 2007, 11:36 Rams :: WRWR D. Bennett Likely #3 Receiver In St. LouisJim Thomas, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Sporting News - [Full Article]The speed element that WR Kevin Curtis provided to the No. 3 wideout position will be missed, but free-agent pickup WR Drew Bennett will add an element long missing from the Rams' receiver corps, Size. At 6-5, 206, Bennett will help the Rams on third down and in the red zone. Bennett will begin his employment in St. Louis as the team's slot receiver, but can play both the flanker spot behind WR Isaac Bruce, and the split end spot behind WR Torry Holt.

I think most are just expecting Bruce to finally give in to age and Bennett is the new hottie in town. This has happened every year since the SB season. I remember people taking Hakim and Curtis in line with Bruce over the last couple of years.

They are wrong, Bruce is way underrated, he is a release valve for Bulger and they are totally comfortable. In a PPR league, they should be 10 to 20 picks apart. To take Bennett early is to think that the Rams are going to have a Colts-like season. Being a Rams fan, they are just dreaming.

As long as Bruce is a Ram he will be their WR2. People have been suggesting that he was too old and too frail for years. First it was Curtis . . . then McDonald . . . now Bennett.

Bruce is still a very productive player. Do people not see this? He's 34 and ranked 25th last year. He's far from "done."

I don't think Bruce is "done" but I DEFINITELY think Bennett will have the WR2 role. They will probably work Bruce into slot formations and use him like they did with Proehl and Curtis. Yeah, I'm a Raider Fan but living in St. Louis forces me to pay attention here. We'll have to revisit this post as the season progresses.

We'll see, but I have a hard time seeing the team push Bruce to the back of the bus while collecting a $5 million pay check.I don't personally see Bennett as an upgrade skill wise, so his best selling point vs. Bruce would be youth. I have not seen anywhere that has Bruce anything but the clear WR2 on STL. I'm a Bennett owner so I hope you are right, but I'm not expecting Bennett to be exceedingly productive as an NFL WR3.

No, he's not FAR from done, but he isn't quite finished yet either. He's worth a $1 flyer in our auction, or Bennett might be. No more. Bruce isn't cracking 1000 this year.

I think Bruce is a lock for 1000 yards unless he gets hurt. He hasn't lost much at all.

I tend to feel that many fantasy footballers overrate Bennett for the stretch of games Volek was at QB in 2004. Bennett has one 1,000 yard season out of six (with many around 700 yds). Bruce has had eight 1,000 yard seasons out of thirteen. I choose to think history will repeat for both.

Yeah, it seems one of these years Bruce has to breakdown/slowdown... and Harrison too. I just don't think this is the year. Not from what each of them displayed last year anyway. I like Bruce for 900+ yards this year.

People taking Bennett ahead of Bruce in redraft leagues are really gambling, imho.

Curtis put up 800 yards with 6 TD’s in 05’ and 500 yards with 4TD’s in 06’ as the 3rd or 4th receiver in STL while Bennett put up about 738 with 4 TD’s in 05’ and 737 yards with 3 TD’s in 06’ as a #1 receiver. Curtis was the fastest player on the Rams and one of the fastest players in the NFL and also has some of the best hands of any receiver in the league (he catches everything thrown his way). Why would Bennett come in here and do better as the #3 receiver than he did as the #1 target in TEN and how could he do better as the #3 receiver than Curtis did? Also think about how the Rams added a very good TE to the picture and that equals even fewer targets for the #3 receiver.

There is no way Bennett out produces Isaac Bruce unless Bruce gets hurts and I don’t see Bennett putting up numbers any better than Curtis did the last few years.

I think the better question is should Kevin Curtis be ranked higher and will Bennett out produce Curtis this year who will move up the depth chart and have McNabb throwing to him.

The fact is the Rams downgraded at the receiver position this year and will get less out of the #3 receiver. Curtis upgraded his situation and will have a career year in Philly. He could be a sleeper you might want to think about.

bruce may be a half step slower, but he has for a long time been known as one of the smoothest route runners in the game, he carries his pads well, there is little wasted motion, he can cut at full speed, which has effectively enabled him to preserve his functional & playing speed... in game situations, he is still running crazy open a lot due to his "equalizers"...

IF bulger is able to connect with bennett & mcmichael in the red zone this season (bruce & holt are a lot of things but big & physical aren't among them), bennett could have some upside & surprise... but he would have to catch a lot of TDs to bridge the gap of what bruce is likely to do... the presence of above two works both ways, & could create bigger openings in the defense between the 20s for holt & bruce to exploit...

the primary threats, bulger, jackson & holt could really benefit from the extra offensive weapons (curtis was fast, but not nearly the red zone threat bennett presents, due to being 6'5"... i think he is tallest WR rams have had in STL), and should be primed for monster seasons...

I have Bruce penciled in for just under 1000 yds and 3 TD's this year. I have Bennett with 640 yds and 5 Td's putting him about 20 points behind Bruce in standard leagues. In PPR leagues that gap swells to about 34 points.

Bruce has some really solid stats carear wise, he's only 321 yds shy of Marvin Harrison, whom I've always thought of as a yardage stud. Marvin's been over 1100 yards 8 straight years and had a 4 year run where he AVERAGED 1580 yards! Now some will note that Issac came into the league two years earlier but he didn't start a single game his rookie year (Marvin started 15) and he missed 11 games in 1998 where as Marvin has been aa much of an automatic start as they come. Now, I'm not saying his carear is nearly as good, Marvin has a 42 TD advantage & 135 more receptions, but it's amazing the yardage numbers Issac has posted in nearly the same starts as Marvin.
