"The Lions brass agrees that Joey Harrington is their starting quarterback.Mike Martz, GM Matt Millen, and head coach Rod Marinelli all believe they can win with Harrington. They owe Harrington a big roster bonus on June 15th, making him the favorite to start over whatever challenger they acquire. If only because of Martz' presence, Harrington is an interesting to player to watch in fantasy leagues again. Feb. 21 - 4:09 pm et

Detroit has their mind made up....should Brees go to Miami he would be in a great situation.

I think Miami is a definite possibility. Saban is looking to win soon and Brees is NFL ready while still being a young QB who will be there for years to come. He'd be a huge upgrade for them. The only x-factor is the contract (isn't it always). Big name free agent QBs don't come cheap and there's a very good chance other teams will be interested in him which will only increase his value. Miami's not in great cap shape so if they sign Brees they probably can't do too much else in free agency. Yet, since QB is the most important position it's probably worth it if you're really sold on the guy and if your current QB is Gus Frerotte. If they do sign him to big money it will put even more pressure on the draft because as stated they will probably be limited in other free agent moves.

There's no question that Saban is shaking things up in Miami and anything is possible right now.

Miami would be better, but it would be interesting to see what Martz could get from that offense in Detroit if Brees was at the helm...

Miami makes the most sense, followed by Baltimore. IMO, he's the ideal QB for the Ravens.

Why does Miami make the most sense, to me NY Jets makes most sence of all. Jr. MArty running an offense that Brees has excelled in for two years.I guess the state of the team could scare off Brees though.

IMO because I don't think the Jets want to trade one QB with arm problems for another.

Exactly.

:goodposting: Not to mention, Coles=McCardell, but Martin<LT2, Jolley<Gates, NYJ O-line<SD O-line probably will make Brees think twice. Nothing like landing on your injured shoulder another 30 times/season....

As a Dolphins' fan, all I can say is...

"Please let this come true!" :excited:

Drew Brees is accurate, competitive and young enough to lead our team for the next decade. He is a major step up in talent from our current stable of quarterbacks and the Dolphins offense, led by Chris Chambers, Ronnie Brown and Randy McMichael, together with an improving O-Line could be a major surprise with a legitimate quarterback...

In terms of possible fantasy value, looking at how many passes the Dolphins threw last season, his numbers would resemble this at minimum...

500 attempts

300 completions

3,400 passing yards

22 Passing Touchdowns

and the upside from those numbers posted above could be significant.

*Fingers Crossed*

maybe, just maybe, the dolphins should have selected him when they had the chance in the first place

Who did they take? Was this the Jamar Fletcher pick?
Yep Fletcher. I remember that draft all too well. I was really high on Brees when he came out of school and I remember sitting there just hoping Miami would take him, and as soon as they took Fletcher I went absolutely apesh*t.At least they nabbed Chambers in the 2nd that year..

Miami would be an interesting destination. They have weapons in place at WR, RB, and TE.

On the other hand, Chambers is a deep threat, and that's by far the weakest aspect of Drew's game. Drew's heart and work ethic is up there with anyone in the league, but his arm has always been below average and the torn labrum and shoulder out of socket is unlikely to help his arm strength issues.

It will be interesting to find out if Drew is legit or if he's really another Jay Fiedler who's been masquerading as a Pro Bowler b/c of the Chargers short passing game and gamebreakers LT and Gates.

I hope he succeeds where ever he lands - it's impossible not to like Drew Brees.

While Chambers is a deep threat, Id certainly say he has a well-rounded game. I think SD was among the leaders in 20+ yard passing plays last year.

Wouldn't surprise me - Gates turns 8 yard curls into 22 yard pickups better than any player in football. Point taken with Chambers. Perhaps he'll be a better match for Drew than I think if he's willing to run more slants than posts.

 :bag: Wanny/Spielman

Heard that with the shoulder surgery, SD offerred him 2 million with no signing bonus. Nice job there chargers. I see him in Miami and then I see the dolphins taking a QB in the 3rd or 4th. Gus will be gone, and sage will be out as well.

Only way miami wouldn't get him is if someone goes crazy on the contract offer. Figure a decent signing bonus (3 mil) with a low base, and then roster bonus next year (in case the shoulder still ain't right).

According to reports, he is ahead of schedule on his rehab as well.

As a Detroit fan, I'm torn. I don't want to see the Lions spend most of their cap space on another QB when they have other needs.

Also, the injury / surgery Brees had is NOT minor. It is very serious.

Hard to wrap up that much money in a QB with arm problems. (see Pennington)

As a charger fan I say congrats to whoever gets Brees. If it's Miami they are an instant title contender.

Good news is that Marty will probably be fired when they go 8-8 this year.

Why draft a QB? Fins already got one QB from SD last year as a project (see Cleo Lemon). Might as well go to the well twice...

Wow. Brees kool aid strong today, eh?

That's according to Drew's reports. Remember, it's contact time for Drew, he has every incentive to be "ahead" of schedule - his injuries came at a most inoportune time.I doubt Drew would take $3MM guaranteed.

Could very well be the case, but don't forget that Brian Schottenheimer, Marty's son, is now OC for the Jets.

PLEASE let this happen and make Brees a Dolphin.

For a team that needed to find a QB this offseason there sure are plenty of possibilities.

I wonder if all of the Culter hype is driving this "interest" in Brees.

A couple weeks ago the scenario seemed to be playing out:

A) pick up a quality veteran short term QB either via trade or free agency: Culpepper, McNair, Ramsey, etc. B) draft Cutler at #16 and groom him for a couple years

Now the Cutler hype has escalated to the point that many draftniks are predicting him being long gone before the Dolphins slot in the 1st round.

So maybe the gameplan has changed to: A) acquire a solid young veteran QB via trade to run the offense for several years, B) draft a QB in the later rounds for the future.

Of course all of this is speculation and opinion. Nobody really knows what Saban has in mind. Maybe he is or isn't really interested in Cutler, maybe he is or isn't really interested in Brees. Who knows? But as a Phin Fan, I'm willing to trust his decisions for the immediate and longterm future of the Dolphins.

I like the prospect of adding Brees if they could pull it off financially, if they are confident that he will be 100%. I think Saban is looking for a caretacker QB, that is mobile, and can make the passes when needed. I don't think he's looking for a 4,000 yd, 35 TD guy.

got nothing to do with Kool-aid. I do not like my team taking 2 steps backwards
