Driver short changed by NFL.com (1 Viewer)

Driver racked up 30 yards rushing on a lateral in addition to his stellar receiving totals. NFL.com picked it up in the play-by-play (see below), but didn't credit Driver's stats. Maybe not a big deal, but that is worth 3 points in my league and that could be the margin between winning and losing a tight one.

(6:23) (Shotgun) B.Favre pass to G.Jennings to MIN 45 for 12 yards. Lateral to D.Driver to MIN 15 for 30 yards (C.Griffin).

Was on nfl.com when the play occurred. I'm not 100% sure but I think they credited those yards to his receiving stats.

Those aren't rushing yards -- they're receiving yards.

Just a heads up for people who don't know the way the rules work. ;)

It was a pass play, so Drivers yards after the lateral are receiving yards, not rushing yards. The 30 yards were correctly credited to his stats as receiving yards.

that's not necessarily either rushing or receiveing depending on how your league's scoring is set up.

he didnt get credit for a reception though. . . .should he have?
Nope, because he didn't make a reception.Edit to add: Favre gets credit for all the yards as receiving yards, but it doesn't count as 2 completions on 1 attempt, right? Because there was only the 1 reception on the play, so Driver doesn't get one.

His stats are pretty close (except for yahoo.)

That would be receiving yards on the lateral considering it was a pass play.

NFL.COM - 6 rec. 191 yds 1TD

Yahoo - 7 rec. 173 yds 1TD

Fanball live scoring - 6 rec. 190 yds 1TD

Espn - 6 rec. 191 yds 1TD

your league doesn't give points for receiving yards?

yes similar to the culpepper to moss lateral to bennet TD at the half.

One site showing 7 for 173. NFL network showing 6 for 191. Anyone got the scoop on this?
6 for 191 should be right. Jennings caught a pass, lateral to Driver and Driver took it about 30 yards to about the 10. That is the descrepency, and I think it will be worked out to 6 for 191. He gets the yardage, but he did not catch it.

that is 11 points I am losing with Driver in my league. we get a 10 point bonus at 175 yards and he is 2 yards short right now.

If so, then you play in a crappy league. The NFL scores laterals as a continuation of the original play:

lateral after reception = receiving yards

lateral after rush = rushing yards

lateral during kick return = kick return yards

The only exception is when a fumble occurs (like with the Brown/Buckhalter play today). In those cases, the post-fumble yardage is counted as simply "return yards".

That's the play that came to mind for me, too. Didn't Moss and Culpepper get credit for reception and yards, but Bennet got credit for rushing TD?

It was actually Moe Williams that took the lateral and he was credited with receiving yards and a receiving TD on the play. CPep was credited with the passing yards (both before and after the lateral) and a passing TD.http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20031019016
