(Drunk?) Jerry Jones talks about Tebow and Parcells (1 Viewer)

I think he was joking when he was talking about Parcels. After he said the insult he then said "I love the guy".

What he said about Tebow was the truth. Dallas has no need for Tebow. They have a backup QB they are developing. There is no point taking Tebow in the third.

I think my favorite part of this is the lounge piano version of Hotel California playing in the background. That sure doesn't sound like Jones' voice...(sober at least)

Awesome. Not sure I get the connection between hiring Parcells and getting a new stadium. I guess he needed Parcells to stop the Jerry needs a yes man criticism which would allow him to negotiate a stadium deal.

I'm no fan of Jones or the Cowboys, but I'm certainly no fan of jackholes who record people without their knowledge just to post it on the Internet and embarrass them. I wonder what some of us would say if our drunk conversations were posted on the web for everyone to see.

It is interesting for fans to see his thinking behind some decisions without the gloss of scripted interview answers, but these folks can't even talk to people in a bar anymore. And now, when he blows off everyone who comes near him...people will say what a jerk he is and how he doesn't care about the fans.

I am sure glad that every member of the Pittsburgh Steelers is above reproach.

Exactly, a man's allowed to have a drink and express some opinions to friends. There's no reason for the NFL to get involved and no reason that video should have been made public.

I agree as well. I am certainly no Cowboy fan but posting that video was not cool IMO.

I saw the clip on ESPN and of course they cut out the parts where Jones says that he loves Parcells (making the context mean-spirited instead of joking) and they cut out where he said Tebow would not start over Romo (making it look like he just didn't like Tebow instead of them not needing a backup QB). I am not surprised ESPN would act like that in general since they have long since lost all credibility, but I did think they were "friends" with guys like Jones so I am a little surprised they did it here. At least they are consistently a garbage network, though, so props for that.

I can't wait for Jerrah to get drunk and tell BSPN that they don't even get their one Sunday Night game with the 'boys next year. That will fix 'em.

if you can't understand Jerry Jones' slurred words, here's the transcript.
What Jones said is true. Tebow would never see the field in Dallas. Parcells was brought is when the Cowboys needed a name. Jones is a shrewd businessman and needed backing on the stadium.

Could you imagine if every GM was caught on tape talking about players and coaches? It would probably be worse than Jones.

A high profile-high energy guy like Jones can`t even go out and have a few drinks and blow off some steam? I love seeing that vid..now I know he likes having a good time. And I am no Jones lover.

 I honestly don't see the big deal here.

Not at all....Joe was trashed on a Nationally televised game, JJ was in a private club having drinks and was secretly taped.

Mike & Mike made a huge deal about this... all he said was that TT couldn't play in the NFL; a lot of people are saying the samething... whats the big deal? And we all know that him and the tuna didn't get along.

I bartended - managed a bar in Austin in the mid nineties when the Cowboys had their training camp there. Many of the Cowboys came to the bar frequently and Jerry Jones was there a lot. I witnessed this with my own eyes, on two consecutive nights, Jerry Jones was carried out of the bar propped up from two of his friends, the dude would get hammered. I figured he sobered up at some point because I thought something like this would happen before now.

:headbang:

Seriously? If you don't want your mug splashed all over deadspin and ESPN saying things drunk...well, don't drink to excess. If you don't, your true thoughts won't come out. 90% of Americans have cells that record video. Jerry should know better than that; he's not that stupid.

Well, this explains the Roy Williams trade.

Because it was secretly recorded that is why.If I was Belicheck I would have someone record me talking up Tebow ("This guy is the next Tom Brady") to get some idiot team to draft him.

thats why I said almost. Jones is just as drunk as Nameth in that video.

I wonder if the league will fine Jones for embarassing the league and for public drunkenness?

You don't watch the news much do you? they already said they weren't going to do anything. This is not the first time ESPN has taken JJ's words out of context. They did the same thing when asking about Roy Williams (wr) not starting.

This is the very latest in a long succession of events that lead to one plausible conclusion: Jerry Jones is a delusional megalomaniac who is an astute businessman but a hoffificly bad owner. He prides himself on being a "GM" thrusting himself into personnel decisons he has no credibility to make. The historical conext is clear; when JJ has hired a true stroung personality with a documented football acumen, the team builds a superior roster and is of high caliber. Case A is Jimmy Johnson and Case B is Bill Parcells. Jimmy won multiple titles, built a dynasty in the 90's and left under duress because of Jerry's ego and insecurities. Parcells, while not quite taking the Cowboys to the promised land, crafted a talented roster which has seved to fuel multiple playoff appearences over the past several seasons. Again, Jerry can't stand that someone else is given credit for success, so even after three years, has to lob insults.

Jerry, look into that plastic surgery riddled clown face of yours, and try to come to grip with reality. Without an established football leader, such as Jimmy Johnson or Bill Parcells, look at your track record. You purposefully hire parrots, puppets, and submissive quasi-coaches like Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, and the lot. Subsequently, you have a weak personality that you can dominate. What ensues are 5-11 records, abysmal drafts, and trades that make Jerry Burns look like Branch Rickey. Loved that Joey Galloway for two #1s almost as much as I'm enamored with the "heist" of Roy Williams for a #1 a #3 and a #7.

Then, after you run the show for a few years, burn down the team, only then are you forced to hire a credible coach. This is where your business skill pays off, as I totally believe you brought in Parcells to build the stadium and sell tickets. However, to a life long fan with a little insight...You're not fooling anybody.

With Jones at the helm, the Cowboys will NEVER win another Super Bowl because of Jones' impetuous nature and fragile ego. This pains me to say, but it's the truth.

IMO this is a total invasion of privacy.

What bothers me the most is that I would have "loved" to been at that bar and had some drinks, talked football and had some laughs with JJ. Nothing better than to hook up with an athlete who loves to have a few and tell some war stories, but to actually be having drinks with the most visible owner in the NFL would be beyond belief. to hear him tell those stories first hand would be a treat.

After this episode those days are over and fans will get all pissy because athletes will not talk to them in public. A sad day.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said, considering he was drinking at a bar while being secretly taped. I can't imagine what I might say while drinking at a bar with friends while I was secretly being taped. Hopefully that never happens or surely I'll have much more to explain than JJ.

I don't get it, seriously. Have had a couple. Because Roy went to UT? Dallas is only 3 hours away from Austin. Him being there during training camp did nothing for Roy Williams.

Whereas Tebow isn't a better QB than Romo, better RB than MB3 and Felix J, nor a better TE than Jason Witten, he might be a better WR than Roy Williams :goodposting:

I have a feeling Jerry Jones was downing some BC Powder the next morning.

Jerry Jones = a younger version of Al Davis

One man's maverick can quickly become another man's senile old fool.

That is his point, you'll never be able to have a moment like these guys did because everyone with any bit of fame will always be on guard. It is what it is, but it sucks. Everyone loses except I guess there will still always be people that don't wise up and we get to see videos like this. It wasn't like Jerry was telling racist jokes or something, what he said wasn't bad for being drunk hanging out with some people, wasn't even bad for being sober.
