[Dynasty] 2015 Draft Prospects (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

The Jets are not expecting fourth-round QB Bryce Petty to start games this season.

It's easy to think big for Petty because he put up jaw-dropping college numbers and only has Ryan Fitzpatrick/Geno Smith ahead of him. Slow down. "He's got a lot to learn," coach Todd Bowles said. "We're not looking forward for him to be a starter right now." Taking the long-view with Petty makes a lot of sense, as he has a high ceiling but has plenty of development to do.

Stefon Diggs - WR - Vikings

ESPN Vikings reporter Ben Goessling believes fifth-round WR Stefon Diggs will contribute more from the slot than outside.

Diggs is certainly built like a slot receiver, checking in at 6-foot-0, 195 pounds. Diggs was expected to be a playmaker all over the field at Maryland, but was hampered by injuries. He has adequate speed at 4.46. Diggs could have a hard time earning targets as a rookie. Mike Wallace and Charles Johnson have the outside on lock, while Jarius Wright is capable in the slot. Cordarrelle Patterson is still hanging around as a supposed playmaker.

Rotoworld:

Maxx Williams - TE - Ravens

The Baltimore Sun expects second-round TE Maxx Williams to "work in tandem" with Crockett Gillmore.

As in, Gillmore will throw the blocks and Williams will catch the passes. That's over-simplifying it a bit, as Williams can do a little blocking and Gillmore a little catching, but Williams will be counted on to make plays as a receiver. The No. 99 overall pick of last year's draft, Gillmore caught 10 passes in 15 games behind Owen Daniels and Dennis Pitta. Pitta's (hip) health is the reason Baltimore needed Williams in the first place.

Rotoworld:

Vikings GM Rick Spielman confirms fifth-round TE MyCole Pruitt could see time at fullback.

Pruitt is an H-back in the Charles Clay mold. He's unlikely to make a fantasy impact as a rookie, but is a name to file away in Dynasty leagues. Pruitt has high-end athleticism for a tight end.

Rotoworld:

J.J. Nelson - WR - Cardinals

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians likened No. 159 overall pick J.J. Nelson to Emmanuel Sanders.

Arians, of course, coached Sanders in Pittsburgh. Sanders was also smallish coming out of college -- 5'11/186 -- but not nearly as small as Nelson, whose Pro Day weigh-in was 5'10/156. The odds are stacked against Nelson making NFL noise as a receiver. We do expect him to be an impact return specialist.

Mel Kiper Jr. predicts rookie honors for Ravens tight end Maxx Williams
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is bullish on the Ravens' rookie draft class, giving them an A-minus in his annual post-draft grades.

Kiper expressed surprise that Central Florida wide receiver Breshad Perriman, a 4.22 speedster in the 40-yard dash, lasted until the Ravens' 26th overall pick of the first round.

He also provided a prediction on Perriman, who will try to replace former Ravens wide reciever Torrey Smith after Smith signed with the San Francisco 49ers this offseaosn.

"I think he'll be better than Torrey Smith," Kiper said during a conference call Sunday afternoon.

The Ravens drafted Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams in the second round and anticipate hihe will have a major pass-catching role in new offensive coordinator Marc Trestman's tight end-friendly scheme. So does Kiper.

"I think Maxx Williams could be NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year," Kiper said. "He could be everything that Dennis Pitta was when he was healthy."

Kiper said that he thought Iowa defensive tackle Carl Davis, the Ravens' third-round draft pick, would go in the second round.

Kiper liked Kentucky defensive end Za'Darius Smith as a potential replacement for Pernell McPhee, who signed a five-year, $39 million contract with the Chicago Bears.

The Jarrettsville resident also liked fourth-round running back Buck Allen as a complementary presence to veteran running back Justin Forsett.

Kiper praised Texas Southern cornerback Tray Walker, a fifth-round NFL draft pick, for his height and athleticism.

"People will nitpick them not getting a corner earlier, but that's how the board worked out," Kiper said. "They're not going to force it."

Kiper also liked the size-speed combination of sixth-round Georgia Tech wide receiver Darren Waller, a 6-foot-6, 238-pound receiver with 4.46 speed and a 37-inch vertical leap.

"Big guy to throw to in the red zone," Kiper said. "He has tremendous physical talent."

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay praised Allen as a player that jumped out in terms of adding value for where he was picked.

"He could do a better job of breaking tackles and be more powerful," McShay said. "He does run with high knees, can catch, can block. He has a lot of tread left on the tires. Considering their running back situation, this may wind up being a really good pick for them down the road."

My updated rankings are linked in my sig if anyone is interested.
Nice list.

However, you let draft slot affect your rankings too much... Trust your swing!

Strong and DGB are going to be a better fantasy WRs than Dorsett...

Rotoworld:

ESPN Cardinals reporter Josh Weinfuss says third-round RB David Johnson has a good shot at red-zone work.

Johnson doesn't play as big as his 6'1/224 frame would suggest, but he's still a better option in short yardage than featherweight Andre Ellington. Johnson is also far more talented than Stepfan Taylor and Kerwynn Williams. So even though Ellington is fully expected to retain his starting gig and remain a focal point of the offense, Johnson will have value as a backup to an injury-prone player and a candidate for both inside running and goal-line work.

Rotoworld:

Bears signed No. 106 overall pick RB Jeremy Langford to a four-year contract.

Langford ran 4.42 at the Combine, but doesn't play that fast on film. He also lacks tackle-breaking ability at an angular 6-foot, 208. Langford does have soft hands and is an able pass protector, and should have the inside track on Bears No. 2 back duties over holdover Ka'Deem Carey and street-FA type Jacquizz Rodgers. Contract-year starter Matt Forte turns 30 later this year.

Rotoworld:

Redskins GM Scot McCloughan said fourth-round pick Jamison Crowder will challenge Andre Roberts for snaps at slot receiver this season.

Head coach Jay Gruden also sees Crowder as a game-changer on special teams. A strong training camp could put Crowder ahead of Roberts, who finished last season 86th out of 110 qualified receivers in PFF's rankings. Washington's passing game still runs through DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon, so don't expect much fantasy value from Crowder in his first season.

Here is Lance Zierleins list from nfl.com sorted by draft grade

...Murphy, Marcus RB 5'9" 195 Missouri 5.2
...
Overview2014: First-team All-SEC (all-purpose). Played in all 14 games with 11 starts. 2013: Second-team All-SEC (all-purpose). Led team in all-purpose, KR and PR yards. 2012: First-team All-SEC return specialist. 2012: First-team All-SEC return specialist. 2011: Redshirted with a torn right shoulder labrum suffered during July 7-on-7 drills. 2010: Played in all 12 games as the primary KR and a reserve RB.

Pro Day Results

40-yard dash: 4.53 and 4.57 seconds

Vertical jump: 30 1/2 inches

Broad jump: 9 feet, 7 inches

20-yard short shuttle: 4.39 seconds

Three-cone drill: 7.16 seconds Analysis Strengths Has the foot quickness and acceleration to make something out of nothing when called upon as a runner. Needs to play in space, but has quality traits for a runner, despite size. Has enough speed to turn the corner and hit a big run down the sideline. In passing game, mismatches inside 'backers with razor-sharp cuts to the sideline, creating easy throws for the quarterback. Looks to adjust his routes over the top of coverage if quarterback scrambles. Has excellent hands and concentration to finish a catch despite impending contact. Celebrated kick- and punt-return specialist with seven career return touchdowns at Missouri. Weaknesses Needs to improve his reads and feel on stretch plays flowing outside. Small running back with limited amount of carries he can offer in a given game. Tends to float in space as a receiver rather than working back to the ball. Doesn't make the sharp, downhill cuts expected from him as a running back. Missed 2011 with a shoulder injury. He tries to get in the way as a pass blocker, but lacks bulk and strength to be trusted with blitz pickup on next level. Draft Projection Round 7 or priority free agent NFL Comparison Dexter McCluster Bottom Line

All-purpose running back with a lean frame and a big heart. Showed consistency of effort and production during his time at Missouri. His value as a runner is limited due to his size, but he has the potential to become a legitimate target out of the backfield and might warrant some reps in camp as a slot receiver. Murphy can step in and immediately challenge for the top spot as a kickoff and/or punt returner.
  • Marcus Murphy of Mizzou was a 7th round pick of the Saints.
All I know is Mizzou fans seemed to love him and every so often I would see he had a huge play in a game. Still I didn't see Mizz much on tv over the last 3 years.

Up front this seemed like a special teams pick by the Saints, but then outside of Courtney Roby for a few years running the Saints have not really been fans of having players who just return kicks. And Roby was even more effective on ST defense than he was as a returner. Bookending Roby as primary return men they have had Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles and Travaris Cadet, who of course played major to substantive roles on offense.

Of course the Saints have at RB:

  • Ingram
  • Robinson
  • Spiller
  • Tim Hightower (yeah how about that, he's on the roster)
  • Edwin Baker, formerly of UT and Cleveland (where actually I thought he looked pretty good actually)
I was pretty disappointed by the Saints draft, not for the talent but for their lack of picks at certain positions, especially WR, RB and G. And I at first overlooked this pick, said 'bah!' when it happened, but upon further reflection I wonder if there isn't more.

The Saints have had room and need for 4RBs overall and 2 RBs in the receiving game in the past. They love love love RBs who can run a proper screen and take it down the field. Brees had a few protection issues as we know last year, and everyone saw they missed Sproles.

This may be something, though I'm perfectly prepared for a 7th rounder to be pulp for the Turk when he comes calling in August. I also don't like the McCluster comparison, though that may not be fair or accurate. But my first thought on seeing the pick was that he was just going to be another undersized college small RB who doesn't have the size or strength to make it in the pros.

Does anyone have any observations from watching Mizzou football and Murphy actually playing offense to suggest there could be more "there" there?

Rotoworld:

Ravens sixth-round WR Darren Waller could see snaps at tight end.

Coach John Harbaugh made the disclosure on Tuesday. Harbaugh made sure to specify it would be as a "pass-catching" tight end. It's a bit of surprise, as Waller doesn't lumber the way his 6-foot-6, 238-pound frame would suggest. He clocked a 4.46 40 at the Combine, and added a 37-inch vertical and 10-foot-5 broad jump. It could just be an indication the Ravens will be creative as they look for ways to get Waller on the field.
