[Dynasty] 2019 NFL Draft Class (3 Viewers)

FAU junior RB Kerrith Whyte Jr. declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Whyte (5'10/200) joining his fellow FAU RB Devin Singletary in jumping into draft proceedings. While Singletary understandably received the majority of work in the Owls' backfield this year, his teammate managed to carve out a nice role of his own, rushing for 866 yards (6.5 YPC) and eight touchdowns across 12 games played. He also proved to be an adept return man, sometimes a stock booster for NFL purposes. He's going to need to stand out during the draft process given that he never received a starting run with the Owls.

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson will not play in the team's Birmingham Bowl date with Wake Forest on Dec. 22.

No real surprise with this one after Henderson declared for the draft on Wednesday. The electric junior sprints off into the sunset having rushed for 1,909 yards (8.9 YPC) and 22 touchdowns during the 2018 season. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller views him as a potential Day 2 selection for the spring. As for Memphis' plight sans Henderson, Patrick Taylor (1,012 yards, 15 touchdowns) is about as able a backup as you will find in the country. He'll look to put the hurt on the Demon Deacons -- now in a lead role -- upcoming.

Benjamin Snell declares for 2019 NFL Draft

Kentucky junior RB Benny Snell declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Snell (5'11/223) has been the definition of a workhorse during his career at Kentucky, topping 1,000 while registering double-digit touchdowns in each of his three seasons on campus. For the just-completed campaign, he logged 1,330 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Physicality is the buzzword with Snell. He's also a strong pass-blocker and scheme-versatile to boot. What to look for during his evaluating process -- Snell's athletic testing numbers later this winter are going to be crucial, as he's not the fastest nor shiftiest of backs. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller forwarded him as a potential Day 2 selection in his Dec. 7 scouting notebook. Miller, it should be noted, does not believe there is a Round 1 running back in the draft-eligible class for 2019. This seems to be a consensus view at this juncture. We'll see if things change as the process moves along on its merry way.

 
Stanford senior RB Bryce Love will not play in the Sun Bowl.

Love (5'10/202) will instead focus on the NFL Draft, and it's without a doubt the correct decision for him. So much of Love's draft grade will be injury related and risking further damage in the bowl game would be a potential detriment to his draft stock. Love has shown a ton of explosion at times -- he averaged 8.1 YPC on 263 attempts in 2017 -- but that was stolen from him this year while playing on a bummed ankle. The Draft Network's Benjamin Solak notes that Love is being viewed as a Day 3 selection at the moment, but Love could beat that assessment if he can show NFL doctors that his ankle injuries aren't an issue moving forward.

Ole Miss junior TE Dawson Knox declared for the 2019 Draft.

Knox (6'4/257) redshirted and played behind Evan Engram his first two seasons. He broke out as Engram's replacement as a sophomore, but failed to live up to his junior year hype. Knox has some Hunter Henry to his game as a receiving tight end with prototype measurables. He has the makings of a pre-draft riser.

Hawaii redshirt junior WR John Ursua declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Ursua (5'10/175) exploded for an 89-1343-16 receiving line in Hawaii's revived run-and-shoot attack this season. Coming into the year, he had yet to post more than 55 catches, 675 yards or 10 touchdowns in a campaign. It was a stellar make-good year for the redshirt junior after he missed the back half of the 2017 season rehabbing from a knee injury. Ursua will have to face the expected health questions during the evaluating process. Interested NFL teams will also have to assess his ability to handle pro systems and route trees. Should be an intriguing evaluation for a probable Day 3 prospect.

North Dakota State senior RB Bruce Anderson accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Always fun to see small-school players -- even if they're national powers -- get invites to events like this. Anderson (5'11/210) has helped the Bison win two national titles in his time at the school, and they'll be playing for a third against Eastern Washington in January. He's averaged 7.5 yards per carry while rushing for 924 yards and nine scores, and he also has three receiving touchdowns. A strong showing at an event like this would go a long way towards him being a Day 3 selection.

Ohio State redshirt sophomore QB Dwayne Haskins has received a first round grade from the NFL's college personnel advisory board.

This is not a surprise at all, but it's more evidence that Haskins will likely end up declaring for the NFL Draft in the near future. Haskins (6'3/220) will still discuss his options with his coaches at Ohio State and with his family before making a final decision, but he's expected to play in the Rose Bowl either way. Most draft analysts, including Bleacher Report's Matt Miller, rank Dwayne Haskins as either the No. 1 or No. 2 quarterback prospect of the 2019 class.

Way too many of these have D.K Metcalf going to the Bills. I don't need that. I need him going to Cleveland, NYJ or Arizona. I like him better than NKeal Harry. Hopefully they are scared off by the neck injury and go with the safer WR pick.

Why not the Bills?  Josh Allen has made an undrafted rookie WR fantasy relevant.  Imagine what he can do when he has an actual offensive line and a more talented WR.    

Pretty sure Foster has scored more points since he was brought back on the team than any WR on Browns, Jets or Cards.  (Although not looking at stats and could be wrong).  

Point being, a WR going to Buffalo is not as bad as people are thinking.  If the Bills take the most talented WR in the top 10, you might regret passing on him because you think his opportunity is not as good as others.

I think the other 3 guys are better passers. It's trending up in BUF now but Allen is just as likely to run it in from 10 yards as to pass it. I know Mayfield is gonna throw it and throw it a lot. He's only scratching the surface.

3 weeks ago I would have (and did) agree with Iod; any Buffalo rookie WR would be off my board. 

Now... I'm not so sure. It has to be the right fit. He's been locking onto Foster quite a bit, which is encouraging. His use of Foster makes me wonder, "What can he do with a legitimate WR1?" Also, the Bills aren't going to be terrible forever. Josh Allen could very well be one of the best QBs out of this draft and can turn that franchise around. A year ago, any WR drafted by the Browns or Jets was considered off fantasy draft boards. Now look at us... salivating at the opportunity for one of those QBs to get a legitimate WR1. I think the same can be said about Allen. The only problem is what Iod mentioned, that Allen is more than a pocket passer. It's not an apples to apples comparison, but looking at Cam Newton... the last time he had a legitimate WR in fantasy was Benjamin's rookie year. Olsen has been big however, yes. Allen might be that same label when it comes to WRs. Same with Baltimore-  Any WR selected by Baltimore is off my draft board 

I won't take anyone off my board because they go to the Bills, but I may not be as excited to take them over a WR who goes to CLE, ARI, NYJ. I think those are better situations. And when you get a talent like Metcalf going to one of those 3 teams, it's a very exciting destination and likely worthy of 1.1. Buffalo isn't a bad destination IMO, but it's not as good as those other 3. 

ETA: I do think some of those mocks make a good point- one reason Allen runs so much is because he doesn't have a legitimate WR1. Most teams don't want their QB running often, so it's possible Allen starts to run less as he gets more weapons around him. No one knows, and that's something where people might be shy about taking a Buffalo rookie WR and he ends up being the steal of the draft.

Oregon QB Justin Herbert will return to school for his senior season in 2019.

20-year-old Herbert was in the discussion as the top quarterback in this year's class if he were to come out and head to the NFL. Instead, he'll go back to school where his brother is coming to the Ducks' program as a freshman. Overall, it's probably a good decision by Herbert, who needs some more work. The 2019 quarterback class is projected to be extremely weak, which obviously isn't good news for teams like the Giants, Jaguars, Bucs, and even Raiders.

Not sure if this is a good move or not. From a money stand point, it may not be worth it. From a developmental standpoint, in the right location he could sit for a year and learn the NFL. Unfortunately a lot of rookies get tossed in ready or not- and unless he were to go to the Giants or Raiders, it's unlikely he would get much chance to sit. And even there it's not guaranteed. 

This makes the 2020 QB class quite intriguing, but also more likely teams like the 4 listed above draft a guy and plug them in right away. 

 
Metcalf is the only WR I would consider in Buffalo. He's that much above the rest imo. However if he goes there and lets say Ridley goes to Indy, then it's Ridley for me. I'll gamble that the rest of my league will not pick him in the 1st. 1/2 our league is super weak at scouting. I tend to lean towards the freaks at WR. I'm picking 1st this year so I'm looking at the WRs that go to Indy, NYJ, ARi and CLE.

Not sure why you think Metcalf is a thing.  His college experience didn’t show a great deal.  1200 yards and 14 tds in 3 years

Also Houston taking Henderson is a possible top 3 rookie selection IMO.

I would probably go Henderson over Anderson if that is their landing spots simply because of the injury factor.

Oh he's a huge risk but from a size/speed standpoint, he's way above everyone else. That's why I would prefer he goes to a team with a qualified young QB. if I want safe WR pick, I pick Ridley.

WTF? Are we even watching the same players? Riley Ridley from Georgia?

If you want safe, it's AJ Brown and Marquise Brown.

 
Don't really get how Ridley qualifies as "safe". I get liking him, but it's mostly projection of his traits at this point, with his lack of production (which, yes, was impacted by his situation of course). But he's definitely not "safe". 

 
AJ Brown is the safest pick in this draft it seems at WR. 

Marquis Brown... I'm not sure about that. I have a hard time thinking a guy 170# is going to be a "safe" bet in the NFL

Winners and losers after Justin Herbert announced he's skipping the 2019 NFL draft

 
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller said NFL teams could view Wake Forest redshirt sophomore WR Greg Dortch as "a potential Tyreek Hill piece."

Tyreek Hill is the typical comparison for the small, explosive receivers and Dortch (5'9/170) certainly fits the mold. Matt Miller is not comparing Dortch to Hill straight up as players (neither are we), but Dortch can play the Tyreek role in Kansas City, as Dortch averaged 10.8 yards per target as a receiver and returned kicks for Wake Forest. The results of Dortch's 40-yard dash and broad jump will play a big part of his evaluation, but he's expected to test well in both.

Toledo junior WR Diontae Johnson has declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Johnson (5'11/181) would have been featured at Toledo in 2019 if he would have stayed, but the junior will try his chances at the next level early. Johnson caught just 43-of-83 targets (51% completions) for 663 yards (8.0 YPT) and seven touchdowns (8% TD rate). None of those metrics are positives for Johnson, so he will need to have a plus NFL Combine to end up on a 53-man roster as a rookie. Before the season started, Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gave Johnson a sixth or seventh round grade.
