Dynasty Add/drops (2 Viewers)

I run a 12 owner dynasty $400 salary cap league.

We currently leave Blind bidding open to all teams, up until before week 16 games (our Superbowl).

Non-playoff teams have different priorities than playoff teams.

In the past teams have not dropped big names during playoff time since there's little to gain on the ww. This year we have a team dropping some veteran or overpriced players to acquire cheaper youth.

These dropped veterans/overpriced players are then being picked up by playoff teams to fill holes in their lineup due to injury and such. This could potentially severely impact the competitive balance of the remaining playoff teams.

Does your league allow non-playoff teams to make add/drops during the playoff weeks?

My dynasty league locks add/drops for non-playoff teams for the duration of the playoffs to avoid situations like this. This has its own set of problems, though, as it doesn't give those teams a chance to grab late rising players. We offset it somewhat by allowing just the non-playoff teams to have a free for all FA pickup spree for the week following our Super Bowl.

One solution its to lock the dropped players until the off season

I like this better than the rest, how can you penalize a playoff team for only carrying one kicker and then said kicker gets hurt and force them to take a 0 in the playoffs.

However, if a team doesn't make the playoffs it means they are weaker and should be able to pick up players for next year. Just another way of looking at it.

Our dynasty league does not allow a player to be released after Thanksgiving.

After this point, all teams may still move players who are on the NFL IR or are NFL Free Agents to their IR to be relieved of their salary and pick a replacement.

We also have the option at of tagging 1 player to be kept next year, but replaced this year. This is normally used to keep underperforming veteran who a team would like to have next season (with corresponding raise in salary) and pick up a young guy to whom the team may or may not keep next year.

Our league locks rosters for non-playoff teams, but playoff teams can only add players if they are going to start them that week.

Our league locks rosters at the conclusion of the week 13 games (end of regular season). Waivers are still processed throughout the playoffs, but once the playoffs conclude, all waiver transactions from weeks 14-16 are reversed and rosters are set back to where they were at the end of week 13 games.

That's an interesting thought - would it be fair to not allow playoff teams to pick up a player released after Thanksgiving, but non-playoff teams could? I don't like the idea, but it's interesting.

Fair wouldn't be the right word, because allowing one team to do something that another cannot is the opposite definition of fair.It helps the lesser teams get better by giving them a leg up.

In our dynasty league we stop non-playoff teams from making moves and the playoff teams once they are eliminated. We do not allow anyone that is picked up after the regular season ends to be kept, so it is fair for all. If you want some cheap players, get them before week 13 ends.

:goodposting: This is a good practical solution. Allowing eliminated teams to work the waiver wire is unacceptable in a keeper/dynasty format. Their season is over (not sure why people have so much trouble with this concept). An open waiver for remaining teams allows them to manage injuries and the keeper restriction maintains a level playing field.

Fixed.

I think that you recognize that this is a very undesirable situation. This is why leagues needs to put some quality thought into their rules. The concept of fairness is at the heart of the issue. Some will argue that the waiver shouldn't be open to surviving teams if other teams are prohibited. You could counter that with the fact that ALL teams were eligible to be play-off teams at the beginning of the season and could have been the ones to retain the ability to acquire players.Again, a rule to prohibit play-off waiver acquisitions from being kept or reverting rosters to final regular season state are pretty solid.
