dynasty commissioners (1 Viewer)

I was wondering how offended you have to find a replacement owner? I have been running 2 local dynasty leagues, one for 10 years and the other for 4. It seems I have to find a replacement owners about every 3 years. Owners just seem to not be interested in FF any more. Is this common?

In my opinion you have 2 distinct situations.

1 - league of friends from School, work or local area friends. These go on for years and only need replacements on rare occassions if run fairly.

2 - Leagues formed on the internet, usually from people we only know from the internet. Usually people from 1 site like here or from leagues we are already in from internet. I usually have to replace 1 or 2 team owners each year.

One of the problems with dynasty leagues is that it's easy for guppy owners to find a new league to join after they have run one league into the ground. Then do the same thing to the new league after they run that team into the ground. However, some owners like a challenge to rebuild bad teams, so thank God for those types of owners. Sometimes there are good reasons for quitting a league, because the league itself is bad (bad commish), or an owner realizes he's playing in too many leagues and has to cut back for family / personal reasons.

I commish 3 football and 1 baseball dynasty leagues. Ownership has been pretty good for the most part, but we've had a few owners leave. That's understandable when you have 48 owners involved in those leagues. We have had 5 owners leave in 3 leagues within the last 4 years. One thing I've learned is to take more time to fill the open slot, instead of taking the first guy who applies for the team in the dating game thread. That way your chances of getting a new owner who's committed to the dynasty concept go way up.

Are the teams bad? A possible way to prevent this is to make it easier to rebuild faster.
for the most part no. owners just are not interested in FF any more. I have to replace 2 owners(one team is loaded and the other is solid) in my 10 year league this year. both are good freinds of mine who just do not follow FF or the NFL any moreteam 1has 4th rookie pickrosterQBsB RoethlisbergerK ClemensV YoungT GreenG FrerotteM BulgerRBsS AlexanderL MaroneyK FaulkW McGaheeM MorrisC PortisWRsA JohnsonL EvansT TaylorA ChatmanD' StallworthM BookerP BurressP PriceA LelieKJ FeelyTeam 2has the 6th rookie pickrosterQBsE ManningJ GarciaM LeinartRBsD RhodesM BarberC BensonL WashingtonE JamesC HoustonS MorrisD FosterD BlaylockWRsJ WalkerR WilliamsA BryantM JenkinsC JohnsonK JohnsonK ColbertM RobinsonKJ Elam

You are right, those teams aren't bad. I think owners that are just leaving college and starting their career or are just starting a family, have a tendency to lose interest in FF. The time they once had to spend on the hobby is now taken up by family obligations and work, whereas while they were in college time spent on the hobby wasn't a factor. What you need is owners 40+ who are well established in their career and the rug rats are gone from the nest

With all the traffic on the message boards here (and several other sites) you shouldn't have a problem finding replacement owners....BUT the one thing you should do - not only to prevent people from bailing with no thought AND to make it easier to find new owners is to have ALL teams paid up for a year in advance. That way if an owner leaves, the league will not be stuck either for the money or for a new owner, IF you can't find someone to pay one leagues fee for two years of play, you can always find someone to manage the team while you take longer to recruit a GOOD new owner.

I do want to keep it a local league. If I cannot find replacements in a few weeks I will go the Internet route. I have learnt that finding a new owner can be good for the league, especially if I they have played FF for a # of years but have never played the dynasty format and want to get into the dynasty format.
