[DYNASTY] If you had Rudi (1 Viewer)

Via Rotoworld.com

Rudi Johnson - RB - Bengals

Rudi Johnson is still recovering from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery.

Teams aren't responsible for reporting offseason surgeries, so we're always skeptical about a surgery like this that sidelines someone for four months. During the season, players often recover from arthroscopic surgery in two weeks. Keep an eye on Rudi this summer. May. 16 - 4:44 pm et

Chris Perry was on crutches following knee surgery Thursday, but will be ready for training camp.

The Bengals may lean on Rudi Johnson and Perry more while Carson Palmer is recovering early in 2006. Perry, if healthy, is probably the best third-down back in the entire league if Priest Holmes retires. May. 4, 2006 - 9:35 am et

What exactly about his 279 rushing yards and 0TDs makes him an elite rb?  Even if you factor in his receiving yards he has less than 1,000 yards of total offense and 2TDs and neither his 4.6 ypc or 6.4 ypr averages are particularly impressive.
Sorry to give you #### but, Perry missed a handful of games last year... and... 4.6 ypc.... not particularly impressive??
I would pay as much as multiple 1st rounders (mid to late ones) for either him or Michael Turner.
Wow, please come join my league. I want 5 first rounders for both.
Bloom and I would be most accomodating. The 1.8, 1.9, 1.10, 1.11 & 1.12 rookie draft picks for Perry AND Turner?
:)
This year, I pretty much agree with that. BUT, if these were 2005 picks, would you really prefer Perry and Turner to Clayton, Mark BAL WR

Shelton, Eric CAR RB

Miller, Heath PIT TE

Brown, Reggie PHI WR

Jones, Matt JAC WR

(somewhat Ironically, I own Perry, Turner, Shelton, Brown and Jones in one league)
As of this point of time, I would say yes. Firstly, I think Perry and Turner are heads and shoulders above their peers (RB PROSPECTS - not targeted at OZ, but for those who don't understand that we're talking about prospects). I think these guys are worth a considerable premium that is well above what they have actually produced so far in their careers. Clayton, Miller, Brown and Jones might all turn out to have nice careers, but I think it is worth it for the opportunity to acquire a potential future stud feature runner for a very cheap price. Risky? Sure. Backfire? Might. But imo, the risk is worth the potential gains. TE #1, and three WR #2s = 2 feature backs?
How so? Everyone and their mother has expected Perry to take Rudi's job since he was drafted in the 1st round a few years ago and have been holding on to him as such. I got Turner in 2 initial dynasty drafts last year for peanuts and after his explosion on TV after LT got injured he's the hot commodity everyone wants. If I'm a current owner, I'm not giving either of these guys up for anything less than some starters that would help me win now. Otherwise, I'm holding these guys until they get their shot in 2-3 years.
That is exactly what I did. Got an offer of Tiki for Perry and my 1.10 rookie pick. I still had the 1.6 (Leinert), but figured that this would put me right there to win it all THIS year. While I hated to trade Perry (PPR league), Tiki I feel has a few more years in him and surpasses him in recieving. I felt compelled to go for it all with Tiki, Deuce, Caddy and Duckett in a start 2-3 RB contract IDP dynasty.

I also own Rudi in a couple of leagues. One strictly yardage and another a combo. Both are full dynasty. Perry has been brought to me for a trade only once. I did the deal and acquired him. At the time I got him for A.Rogers and a ham sandwich, right after Rudi signed his long term deal. He has never seen a start for either of my teams. I have never pursued him as he has a way of always ending up on the injury report. I also have decent RB depth in both leagues. I'd like to have him but will not pay extra because he has the tag RB before his name and usually INJ after it.

In one of my dynasty leagues (none of those guys know about this site thank goodness) I have Rudi Johnson (for RB's it's a non-PPR league).

How hard do I go after Perry?

Is he a Must-Have, a nice-Have, a don't worry, or a bum?

Right now I'm probably in the Nice-have camp
In an initial dynasty draft I went after him hard when I thought he might get picked up. I agree with most others that he is a future starter. The one down side is that he signed a 5 year deal right off the bat, I believe, so he wont be a free agent for 3 years including this one I think.

Bloom & aussie are clearly brilliant.

Perry is definitley a must have.... with or without Rudi.

:hey: Took you long enough to find this thread.
Well I didn't know about this site until just recently.
LOL...I thought you'd enjoy that part.I think we left it at 1.07 and 2.07 for Perry.

You wanna go for that or no?

Perry is one of those guys that you have to watch play, he's electric when he touches the ball. If Rudi went down I could definitely see him stepping into the role and possibly outplaying Rudi, I think he's that good. He's definitely one of the top backups in the league.

But, he is from Michigan and you know their recent rate of success (or lack thereof) ..................

Not even close after reading this thread. :)
 to the guy who posted the Rudi update in THIS thread and just didn't create his own.

Perry would be a no-brainer if Rudi is your RB1 in any Dynasty, as many have already stated his value is on par with very few 3rd down/change of pace RB's presently established in the NFL.

I'd rank him with the likes of Turner & BarberIII myself and would consider his value worth both a 1.7 & a 1.11 in this seasons rookie draft ... I prefer proven on the field NFL talent to potential "might get and hope he doesn't bust" rookies

:2cents:

I think we need a "If you had Perry, how hard would you go after Rudi" post.
Not to twist this, but if you own Perry, how hard should you go after Rudi, if you already have 2 top 20 RBs? (start 2)

Or make it generic, is Rudi a good buy for a Perry owner?
I'm going to say no. You've already got the "sleeper" upstart option. It should be the Rudi-owner pannicking like a nutjob - not you. I'm in the position that you have described, and although I have on occassion thought about making an offer, I think i'd just rather gamble on Perry eventually getting a shot. Worst case scenario? RBBC! That would suck!

Why buy Rudi now when his value is at its peak? Definitly not if you have two top 20 RBs.

I'm a Perry owner and did some research on the contracts last year.

The only way Perry gets a starting gig is if Rudi goes down and performs well, or he asks for a trade.

Perry's contract on the cap is peanuts and Rudi's contract is huge. I remember that it wouldn't make sense to cut Rudi til at least the end of next year. So that would be 2 years from today. Even at that point, why would they, Rudi is producing.

Perry's future as a starter is somewhere else. The difficult part is that they paid a first for him and will be wanting a first back.

I would have thought for a second that OZ was you, but you don't have any top 20 RB's. :)

What kind of role model would trade FOR Rudi if the Rudi owner told him "Good luck tryin to get Perry from [owner name here]"?
LOL. True. You did say that didn't you.

Just traded Chris Brown and Travis Henry for Perry.

The old Perry owner has picks 1.2 and 1.3 in our rookie draft.

Just for people wanting a guage as to Perry's worth.

Rudi has been pretty durable, . . . of course, as I type this, he's probably breaking down in practice . . .

Brown and Henry? Perry has a bright future, those guys don't. You screwed him good, imo.

Wow! I totally disagree. Brown could very well get traded this year, and is an FA next year. I'd say the injury issues are a wash between him and Perry, but Brown has shown us that if he stays healthy he is a 1400+ yard back who also does a great job as a receiver, whereas Perry hasn't shown much at all - he has yet to get 10 carries in a game. I would gladly swap Perry for Chris Brown straight up.

I think right NOW is the time for anyone who wants Perry, to try and get him.He is on the PUP so he is completely off the radar.Rudi is lights out right now.I don't know how much lower he could get. All of those in Dynasty leagues retooling for next year should target this guy for the future. We were talking about his value...I just gave up Reggie Williams for Chris Perry straight up. No negotiations with the other owner...just bam. So there you have it.
Does that mean he i sback this week or next week?

I got both Reggi Williams and Perry in one of my dynasty league. I value Williams more right now. By the way, I got Rudi as well.

Edit to add, I got Matt Jones too.
