This is probably the perfect time of year to acquire young talent that have plenty of question marks. At this time last year, Torrey Smith had the following statline:

12 Catches / 269 Yards / 3 Touchdowns

He was looking very impressive for a Rookie and his price wasn't sky-high. Fast forward this year and he has:

25 Catches / 435 Yards / 4 Touchdowns

If you purchased him low at this time last year, you'd be sitting pretty with a decent WR3.

So let's outsmart the rest of our leaguemates. Who do you think is a good acquisition long-term?

One player I like is TY Hilton:

In the five games he's started, Hilton has averaged 5.4 targets a game. He has shown to be a big-play threat, boasting an impressive 16.8 yards per catch. Meanwhile, Andrew Luck is on pace to throw the ball 666 times this year. He is currently behind Donnie Avery on the depth chart but I believe Hilton is the superior football player.

If you recall, last year Torrey Smith played behind a veteran Lee Evans.

Donnie Avery is only signed to a 1 year contract.

There's a clear path to playing time in Indianapolis and if he can build chemistry with Luck, he has sneaky value.

Another player I like is Robert Housler,

He's built in the same mold as Jimmy Graham + Rob Gronkowski.

Graham (6,6 - 260 lbs)

Gronkowski (6,6 - 264 lbs)

Housler (6,5 - 248 lbs)

Todd Heap's contract is set to expire at the end of this season paving the way for Housler. Despite that, he may provide minimum value this year. In the three games he started, Housler has averaged 5.3 targets a game and received 7 targets last week against the Vikings.

He's a mismatch anytime he steps on the field and he could be a Quarterback away from fantasy relevance. It doesn't hurt that his Coach loves him.

According to SI.com's Peter King, coach Ken Whisenhunt "loves" TE Rob Housler.

These are the type of guys that come with very low-cost but show potential break-out status. Think Victor Cruz from a few years back.

This is an interesting topic. A guy I have been grabbing is Emmanuel Sanders. My understanding is that Sanders and Antonio Brown were on equal footing in the pecking order until Sanders got hurt, when Brown emerged. He's been solid enough that I think the Steelers might be OK rolling him out across from Brown if they can't get a deal worked out with Wallace this offseason.

Sticking with the Steelers, Dwyer and Rainey have some sneaky long term potential with Mendenhall and Redman both being UFAs after this season. Dwyer is an RFA as well, but Steelers might let one or both of the other backs walk and leave one of these guys to carry the load.

Jordan Cameron is almost identical to Housler, except the Browns already have a QB. Watson is an UFA after this season, and Cameron could explode with more snaps.

I don't know if I would compare TY Hilton with Torrey Smith. They are both blazers but Torrey is a decent bit bigger. (IIRC, at least 3 inches and 15 pounds.)

Ryan Broyles, I was looking at MFL projections this week and he is projected for 22 points, sounds crazy too me, but I still like him. Remember this kid had a first round grade before getting hurt his last year at Oklahoma, with teams having two deep safeties to stop the big play and doubling Calvin all the time he could be a poor mans Victor Cruz or Wes Welker for the rest of the year. Maybe wr3 numbers in ppr.

TY Hilton on the rise!

Housler will never have big value. Peyton Manning's not walking in that door. There's no mystery QB1 to come in and take over.

Hilton has been great so far, but I think an even better bargain buy is Brazill.
