Eagles acquire LT Jason Peters [pending contract extension] (1 Viewer)

Come on Aaron...you know there's a lot more to a deal then this reported figure. For one, it's 9 mil/yr. Plus , we don't know what's gaurenteed, or what else might be in there as performance bonuses.
of course. but, it sounds like the Bills offer and what Peters wanted weren't that far off.Jordan Gross signed for 6 years, $60 million.

Jake Long signed for 5 years, $57.5 million.

Peters reportedly wanted to make $11.5 million/year and be the highest paid offensive lineman in football, but if this initial report is accurate he signed for less than both those guys did.
Aaron, This should at least make you feel a little better. As per this report he will be the highest paid OT in football. But even with all that, I am still happy as an Eagles fan.

According to ESPN, it's a $60M for 6 year deal.

By Friday night, , according to a source, Peters had signed a four-year extension worth $53 million in new money. The Eagles acquired him with two years remaining on his Bills contract. In total, Peters will make $60 million over the next six seasons.

For Peters, the Bills will receive a first-round pick (28th selection overall), a fourth-rounder in next weekend's draft and a sixth-round pick in 2010, according to a source.

"Jason Peters is the best left tackle in football," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "He is a powerful and athletic tackle and I have admired his play over the last few years on film. I have always believed that success in the NFL is derived from the strong play of the offensive and defensive lines. This offseason we have added two young, top-flight offensive linemen in Jason and Stacy Andrews."

For more than a year, Peters had been in a contract stalemate with the Bills. He's made two Pro Bowls at left tackle and wants to become one of the highest-paid players at his position -- at an annual salary of possibly more than $11 million.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 328 pounds, Peters completed his sixth season last year and is scheduled to make $3.375 million for the coming season. Last year he held out of training camp, but the decision did not get him a new contract. Peters is signed through 2010 and can then become a free agent.

That makes me feel a little better. If he had signed for $9m a year when the Bills had offered him that, I would have hated him even more. If he's the top paid OL in the league, then I don't feel so bad since he's not worth it IMO.

6 years, $60 million is basically the same as what Gross got. Pretty significant deal and I'm not surprised the Bills didn't want to make that type of commitment after what happened last year. I'm fine with the Bills not signing him, but I'm absolutely convinced they could have gotten more from the Eagles here.

We'll have to see what the terms are, but if 6 years, $54mm is accurate, and guarantees are in the $25mm-$30mm range, Bills fans should be even more angry b/c that's a far cry from the guy supposedly refusing to report if he doesn't get $11mm per season. $9mm per season is baseline money for a starting left tackle right now.
That's a big reason many of us are happy he's gone. We suspected that he was simply forcing his way out of Buffalo, and we wanted no part of his sandbaging in 2009.I hate the trade only because I can't help thinking the Bills' FO sucks, and could have gotten more if they weren't a bunch of weanies. But as far as Peter's leaving the team? Couldn't be happier. A guy sits out TC, reports fat and proceeds to get his QBs killed because he's unhappy with a contract that has 2 years left? One that Buffalo had already generously renegotiated? He can &%&$^#$(*%*^% himself.Oh, and the Bills line was better during the weeks he was on the bench than at any other point during the year. &^$^%# #@$#^

For Peters, the Bills will receive a first-round pick (the 28th selection in the round), a fourth-rounder and an undisclosed pick in 2010, according to a source.
Hard to evaluate this without knowing what the 2010 pick is. If it's anything less than a 3rd, then this is a steal for Philly.

In exchange for Peters, the Bills receive the Eagles’ 28th overall pick of the first round as well as a second-day draft pick in this year’s draft and a late-round draft pick in 2010.
According to NFL.com source the late round draft pick in 2010 is a sixth round selection - Linky

From what I've heard from Bills homers, Peters was terrible last season...guess we'll see if that was him mailing it in, trying to cover for others, or something else.
A buddy of mine is a Bills season ticket holder, and he thinks that was the case.So does this pretty much lock either Andre Smith or Michael Oher to Buffalo?
If they fall that far, and I'm starting to believe they won't.Jason Smith and Monroe should be gone in the first 4 picks. Cincy, Oakland, Jacksonville, and SF are all decent candidates to take a tackle after that. Buffalo may have to move up if they want a tackle.
:goodposting: I think Oher could be there but Smith won't IMO.

I don't like this much from Buff's standpoint. I mean, I GET it, I just think it's not a good long term move. Now they have to take a huge step back, train a new guy, and THEN step forward. They could have signed Peters (maybe - at this point, it's almost an almost Cutler-like situation), and then get another olineman to continue to shore it up or get more defense..... now they kinda HAVE to take oline if it's there.

Man I don't even want to think about a TE at the 11 now...

I'm not sure they have to take an OT high, but the line will certainly be much less experienced than last year's group. They can move Walker to LT and plug in Kirk Chambers or Demetrius Bell at RT. They've also signed Seth McKinney for help at LG and signed a starting C in Geoff Hangartner.

I assume they'll take the best available player at #11 whether it's a pass rusher or an OT.

Is this the "Now that he has a new contract Jason Peters will play hard, and now that he has a new contract Albert Haynesworth won't play hard" thread?

I think it's funny that people think Peters had a down year last year because he didn't play hard or that some even think he was lazy. I'm not a Bills expert at all but I think it would be hard for any huge lineman to miss all of training camp and preseason and then come in week 1 out of shape and do much better. I'm not saying I agree with holding out when your under contract but I think this was the biggest reason for him having a down year and this shouldn't happen atleast not for the next few years. I don't see how a undrafted TE who was the wedge buster on special teams becomes a stud LT in just two years can be lazy. The guy gave up 2 sacks in 2007 and now that he should be in shape and happy I think we can expect and upgrade on the Eagles line but I have been wrong before.

I could agree more about the Buffalo draft, as I think it will be the pass rusher at #11 and then get OT at #28 (Beatty)
