Eagles do NOT sign LeCharles Bentley (1 Viewer)

If we don't spend money this year, I'm done defending the Eagles. For a five year run when we were contenders, we underspent against the cap religiously. Now in a year when almost $500 million in available money is out there to spend, we still have more than nearly any team and yet land Shawn Barber, Matt Schobel and Jeff Garcia [reportedly] in the first 48 hours!?!?

I love it, that piece of garbage Eskin was wrong...wonder how he'll explain this away and make it seem like Bentley was no good anyway and the Eagles are better with out him.

So many signings, and nothing of substance for Philly. I'm beginning to think that all of their great cap management has just been a function of being cheap. I hope they prove me wrong before every worthwile FA has signed elsewhere. The only reason Philly's window will close is if they keep sitting on their hands.

I'm with you - somewhat. What people seem to overlook is that the Eagles save $$ for during the season for adding players (which never seems to happen) but also for signing current players to extensions in mid-season. That's how they retain their players. They wait another 1/2 year to see how they are doing and lock them to a new deal when they aren't available to test free agency.

I still want them to go sign Givens. Now. I'll settle for Moulds, but I want this done.

True, but....Last year they let a guy like Burgess walk who proceeds to lead the league in sacks while their DEs can't sniff a QB. Yeah, I know all about hindsight, McDougle getting shot, blah, blah, blah. However, Burgess was young, they had the cap room as they always do, and he plays a position they value highly. Why not sign him for what the Raiders offered and let him compete with the oft injured, unproven McDougle and the rehabbing Kalu? Forget the nonsense about him being frequently injured...he was their best defensive player in the playoffs and Super Bowl. So they go the whole year with cap space but without a pass rush. Proceed to this year. No matter what they do in FA and the draft, it will ring hollow because of their inability to finish the Bentley deal. No one out there can make the impact that Bentley would have made because he would have made EVERYONE better on offense.

Forget the lousy Browns, if you are a first class organization, the self-described "Gold Standard", make it so that he CAN'T sign with anyone else. Huge failure IMO, one that won't be overcome for a while.

I can understand about Burgess. Yes he was young and he pretty much single-handedly corralled Vick in the playoffs, but he was coming off injury that kept him out of a few games at the end of 2004, and with his contract expiring they didn't think his "upside" matched the $$ being thrown at him by Oakland. The flashes of greatness didn't really happen until that Atlanta game - where he shined - so they couldn't do the mid-season trick.

Defending done.

The FA talent pool is shrinking by the minute / signing. They better grab a WR soon, and should consider offering for Hutchinson.

Relax guys. There's still good FA's available. The only reason you're so upset is because they didn't sign Bentle after reports made it sound like it was a done deal.

It's only been what? 1-2 days since free agency opened. Give them some time. I think a poster in this thread said Sirius radio was reporting the Eagles planned on meeting with Julian Peterson.

We need more help at OLB than we do on the OL. If the Eagles landed Peterson or Arrington I'd be happy. I'd also like to see them re-sign Runyan, especially if they don't bring in a FA O-lineman.

Anyways, it's too early to know what the Eagles are doing. I highly doubt that Barber, Schoeebel and Garcia are going to be are biggest FA acqusitions this year. We'll see how it goes.

My sentiments exactly.Eskin = Andy Reid butt munch

I'm amazed at how long Eskin's career has been in Philly.Of course, Sal Pal and even Jaws are more well known and respected than he.

I'd rather listen to Jodie Mac when I drive into listening range....

As my anger subsides over this whole Bentley thing, I guess i give the Eagles an A for effort... They thought they had a done deal but I guess Bentley just really wanted to live/play in Cleveland. I really don't think it would have been worth the substantial extra money they would have had to throw at him to get him to come to Philly. I just hope they target Mawae or Hutchinson now. Speaking of Mawae, Philly was speaking to him before this whole Bentley thing went awry, does that mean they knew the Bentley thing might not happen? Otherwise, why speak to him if you had a "done deal"?
