If we don't spend money this year, I'm done defending the Eagles. For a five year run when we were contenders, we underspent against the cap religiously. Now in a year when almost $500 million in available money is out there to spend, we still have more than nearly any team and yet land Shawn Barber, Matt Schobel and Jeff Garcia [reportedly] in the first 48 hours!?!?
I'm with you - somewhat. What people seem to overlook is that the Eagles save $$ for during the season for adding players (which never seems to happen) but also for signing current players to extensions in mid-season. That's how they retain their players. They wait another 1/2 year to see how they are doing and lock them to a new deal when they aren't available to test free agency.
I still want them to go sign Givens. Now. I'll settle for Moulds, but I want this done.
True, but....Last year they let a guy like Burgess walk who proceeds to lead the league in sacks while their DEs can't sniff a QB. Yeah, I know all about hindsight, McDougle getting shot, blah, blah, blah. However, Burgess was young, they had the cap room as they always do, and he plays a position they value highly. Why not sign him for what the Raiders offered and let him compete with the oft injured, unproven McDougle and the rehabbing Kalu? Forget the nonsense about him being frequently injured...he was their best defensive player in the playoffs and Super Bowl. So they go the whole year with cap space but without a pass rush.

Proceed to this year. No matter what they do in FA and the draft, it will ring hollow because of their inability to finish the Bentley deal. No one out there can make the impact that Bentley would have made because he would have made EVERYONE better on offense.
Forget the lousy Browns, if you are a first class organization, the self-described "Gold Standard", make it so that he CAN'T sign with anyone else. Huge failure IMO, one that won't be overcome for a while.
