Eagles rest starters? (1 Viewer)

If Dallas wins the early game versus Washington, Phily could rest it's players versus Chicago Sunday night because the Dallas vs Philly game will decide division Week 17

If this happens and is even correct, Foles, McCoy and Desean Jackson owners likely will be upset

Posted this in the Foles thread.

Before it gets too far out of control, the scenario is that if the cowboys win then the Eagles vs cowboys week 17 is for the division. HOWEVER, the 3 seed is still at stake which in the unlikely event 3 v 4 is the NFC Champ game, you want that 3 seed.

Kelly has also come out and said he will not be resting players regardless. So moot point.

So a team that hasn't secured home field advantage, let alone made playoffs is going to rest starters.

Got it.

I watched yesterday's Vikings game ...it was ugly.

Having said that, I just can't see a coach planning on sitting players on a nationally televised game. Let alone against a competitive Bears team.

NEVER in week 16. No matter how many games you are up.
They would not be resting in week 17 though, so its different.

If winning the division week 17 guaranteed the 3 seed I could see them drastically decrease mccoys workload this week, but I don't think they can lose this week and still be guaranteed the 3 seed with a week 17 win.

But depending on the specifics of it, yes I think it would be possible for guys to take on a lesser workload. I just don't think the seeds are guaranteed in this case, so it won't matter.

Agree they won't rest anyone, but I remember a similar situation two years ago when the Giants won in Week 16, and the Phi-Dallas game that had just started became meaningless, since NYG-Dallas in 17 would be for the division. Romo hurt his hand on the second play of the Philly game, and didn't come back in, partly because the game was now irrelevant. Kinda sucks to realize by 4:30 that you're definitely going to lose your championship game #notthatiambitter

ofc they should rest their guys in week 16, since week 17 is the only game that matters. keeping guys fresh and healthy for the finale vs dallas is very important. it would be extremely dumb to risk injuring guys in a meaningless game.

If the game truly is meaningless then definitely agree.
