Eagles Running Backs (2 Viewers)

Are the Eagles and Doug Pederson too egalitarian to make Miles Sanders or anyone else a viable RB1 Fantasy Running Back?

i'm guessing Howard starts the year with Miles getting 8-10 carries. maybe mid-year Sanders will get more  carries, but i also could see them not trying to kill Sanders this early in his career

Howard will start the beginning of the year and be a closer the whole year in games they have a big lead. They kept both Sproles and Clement who both take passing down and 2 minute offense. Howard will not be retained, so next year is more of a blank slate. But I think they like one year rentals for depth, it has done them good.

Agreed, I believe Eagles will ease Sanders slowly, allowing him to learn from his rookie mistakes.  Howard will have countless opportunity especially with goal-line package.

Big Balls Doug loves using ALL HIS RBs. It's a pretty much hit and miss but I'd say Howard/Sanders get the majority of snaps. Look for Sproles Pederson's love child it seems like to be the 3rd down back on passing downs and possible Corey Clement stealing carries and catches. If Someone gets hot over the others during a game Doug likes to usually roll with them while they are hot too. I think RB 2 for Sanders/Howard and Sproles/Clement as a desperate Flex. Now if guys start getting injured then you might be seeing more worth out of some of the guys. Clement over the past two seasons when Healthy has been also used as a KR during kickoffs so if your league counts return yards too he could have a bit more value. Sproles similar for PR but I think DeSean and possible one other could steal some there.

I don’t think it’s a matter of protecting him - he’s a football player not a nuclear scientist. Rather it’s a matter of protecting Wentz and making sure Sanders is up to the task of all the nuances of the position.

Mostly the nuance of not fumbling.  He's had issues in college and camp. He'll need to knock that off before he sees significant time.

That’s always a tough choice.

Hand it to the reliable plodder Howard, take your 3 yards & a cloud of dust & move on to the next play, or hand it to your exciting rookie who could as easily take it to the house as put it on the ground.

Decisions, decision.

I also avoided this backfield. The only Eagles I targeted this year were Wentz & DJax, and sadly I missed on the latter.

Go to the Ertz thread and tell me why you didn’t target him.

It wasn’t so much that I didn’t target Ertz.

Philosophically, I don’t target TEs before round 5-6.

Ended up with Engram round 8.05 (IDP, so round 6-7 equivalent) & Ertz went 3.04 - if I’d missed EEngram I could have also had Howard.

No need for the Ertz thread - just a personal draft strategy preference. I don’t see the drop from Ertz to Engram as being worthy of a 3 or 4 round difference, so I opt for the next tier.

I love me some Ertz, and if he was there 3.08 it would have been a difficult choice.

Love Miles. Just can't count on him early (or perhaps ever) in 2019. Or he could win your league. It's that varied, but when great talent meets elite team good things tend. Just maybe not until 2020 or beyond.

Good news is his competition are either bummy or fogey. BTW, only fogies use the term fogey. Holding til I can't.

I wouldn't want any part of that backfield, not today, not week 14.no thanks
Iggles have by many accounts the best OL in the NFL, an elite QB (if/when healthy), a solid D, a creative HC/OC, three underwhelming RBs, and one rookie with multi-faceted skills plus college production and draft pedigree.

He's not Saquan, but what if he's 65% of Saquan. Still want no part of week 14?

Did he actually have issues with fumbling in camp? I feel like I followed his camp very closely and never heard any rumble about it other than “this was a problem in college that he needs to prove isn’t a problem now”. I don’t recall ever hearing about him having a bad day of fumbling unlike, say, Sony Michel last year who put the ball on the ground in one of his 1st practices and took a lot of laps.

There' was a bet idea between two respected Philly Sports Radio Hosts that none of the Eagles skill players will get 1,000 yards in either receiving or rushing. I think I'd come down on the side that noone will get....with maybe Ertz being the only one who has a chance.

Yea, maybe it's just that throughout camp they keep bringing up his college fumbling issues :)

Whatever gives them the best chance to win and compete for a Super Bowl will eventually emerge.

Sanders/Clement long term with a sprinkle of Sproles if he has anything left. Howard IMO is JAG. Sanders has a ton more talent. Howard will get the early chances but when Sanders comes in and out plays him the inevitable will happen.

I took Sanders later in a redraft (round 7) with the idea he will emerge over the course of a season and be a lead back when it counts. Hope it plays out like that. Maybe I took him a round early.....but he would not have been there in the 8th.

Coaches have tendencies but at the end of the day coaches want to win and they are going to do what gives them the best chances of winning.  I believe if a player has superior talent the cream rises and more times than not rational coaching ensues.  It doesn't always work and that's why there's variability and differences of opinion.  My bet is on Sanders being the winner in this backfield...how much of a winner will be dictated by how well he performs.  I always try and put my chips on guys like him in situations like this and then you sit back and watch it unfold.
