Eagles vs Packers - TNF - Week 4 (1 Viewer)

I am not confident this game will be around in 15-20 years played like this.......I never let my own son sniff a football field (tackle). And I know many parents who did the same. knowing what we know about CTE, neck and head injuries....why would you?

I say....go back to leather helmets. That will stop the missile launching that is still way to prevalent in the game. Tackling will be pure again. Not this insane game we have today with leading with the head.
One of the local guys in Jax a decade ago advocated getting rid of the face mask. Less likely to lead with your head if you might bust your nose up. Not sure that's the answer either.

Ricky tack = autocorrect for “ticky tack”.

Not watching the game. If it was that evident at full speed, call it. What your describing is otherwise the Pete Carrol School of Pass Coverage.
If they are going to review it....then call what the review “clearly and obviously” shows...

My wife who doesn’t even give a #### watched the replay and said “isn’t t that what pass interference is”....

Hard to say because, as everyone worried about before the year, there's really no way to define what's "bad enough".

I mean, it was clear and obvious PI.  He definitely hit him in the back and wrapped his arms around him before the ball got there.  Certainly qualifies as "clear and obvious".  But he didn't hit him that hard or that early.  So it's obvious PI, but not a particularly bad one.  Who the hell knows if that means you overturn it or not because they just seem to play it by ear.
this is a big part. They've always given the BOD to the defender when that close timing wise. Plus, the interference has to make a "significant impact" on the ability of the receiver to catch the ball...it has to move them in a direction (or prevent movement) or turn them. DB certainly had his hands all over him a moment early but didnt turn him or significantly accelerate him forward. Was the kind of play all of us generally DON'T want them to call (unless it's OUR team that would have benefited).

was a good no-call IMO, but had they called it I would also have been hard pressed to call it a bad call

Green Bay just lost a game exactly how we would.  I feel for them, we just had 2 of those.

We needed some things to go our way today and they did... can't even believe how close we were to losing that one.

I agree. Trap game for the Packers. Z. Smith injured and Dallas looming on the calendar. I think eagles win and put the division in disarray, opening the door for the bears to take control.
Called it. This division will belong to the bears now. Packers are toast. It's going to be a Super Bowl year for the bears.

whew, Avante has movement in all extremities and they are keeping him here for precautions.
Maddox was taken to a local hospital after the game, a 34-27 Eagles' victory. Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Maddox had movement in all of his extremities.

I never would have thought with 10 seconds left in the Denver game, that the Bears would win the division.  Then they kick that FG, crush the skins, and are favoured to beat Miami and possibly take a tie of the division lead (With a packers team that might miss Adams for 4+ weeks).  NFL is wild.

not wishing anything. Saying Wentz is going to get beat up by a D that brings it, and he has a propensity to get hurt, so i think he will. Geez... put words in my mouth
No sacks and that defense looked like ####

Just watched the end of the game as I couldn't see it thru my eyelids last night.

On the last INT ... I frame by framed the play ... defender litterally wrapped up the WR while the ball was in flight.

With the new reviewable PI rule .. how was this not called. LOL ... .egregious and game changer to boot.

Slow motion replay at 13:29 ... frame by frame that and tell me how no PI is called after review. .... PHI vs GB Recap

How can the NFL continue to screw up over and over and over again? This is laughable.

With the precedent they set by not overturning the 2 previous PI reviews not sure how they would overturn that one.

I think you could call PI on 75% of NFL pass plays if you go frame by frame. I dont think that is the intent of the rule and I am glad to see the NFL not calling reversing these bang bang plays.

looked like good defense to me

We had the timeouts and Jones is a good hard runner. We should have kept the spread and tried to run at least one more time.
The time to run was the previous drive.

I don't mind a pass there...just seemed too obvious with the "pick on the new guy".

Im hoping people understand where Im coming from on this next part...this is only strategy of the game stuff here.  I hate seeing people get injurred.  But the Maddox injury hurt GB's chances there.  They had been beating him up and down the field.  The injury and long break hurt their momentum...and then Jenkins knowing the Packers would likely target the replacement and helping out was part of what caused that (and that stupid pick route crap I hate).

Based on the replays earlier in the game for both teams, it was not PI last night. It's like an Umpire who's strike zone is a bit smaller than normal. It was consistent even if it's not quite the rule.

I am disappointed this morning.  Disappointed in our special teams allowing the Eagles to start from their 36 and our 40,  I am disappointed in our defense allowing such gapping holes for the run and getting no pressure of any impact.  I am disappointed that Williams was hurt as maybe he is the power back who could have pounded the ball in down on the goal line.  Disappointed that the player that put him out on an unnecessary hit was allowed to stay in the game and then make a very impactful play causing a turnover.  Disappointed in the final goal line call, the interference, the fact that Rodgers should have thrown to the other receiver on that side at that time as both defenders went with the slant. Disappointed that the Packer offense could come to life and yet still not bring this game home.  I am disappointed that we had so many injuries on our side.  We have a few extra days to think on all of this.

As for the Eagles, congratulations.  Both of their lines played manfully.  They came into Green Bay and owned the line of scrimmage.  I could lament the breaks, but when your team makes mental mistakes and the opponent takes your manhood physically , when they step up overcoming their injuries and traveling on a short week, well the outcome was in the end not luck.

Yeah...I don't like the...if you look frame by frame stuff.

The one earlier they didn't overturn was way worse and bad in real time.  Its going to take a whole lot to overturn things.
Agree, glad to see they wont be reversing these ticky tack PI calls, either side of the ball...It needs to be a blatant missed call, as it should be...

To be fair though, that could have just been this referee. Others might reverse all the ticky tack stuff. Who knows. It's like an Umpire with a strike zone like I said.

If they are the best you got you have no choice
Yeah, I guess I worded that poorly. I meant the fringe, toss-up type guys. If I am debating between two evenly matched players for one of my last starting spots, I try to avoid the TNF player. It seems like I get burned all too often if I choose the TNF player.

I don't think the NFL wants to go there.
They're already there. Have been for years. Holding can be called on every play but it's not. It's a matter of how much holding they'll let go and every crew has a different interpretation on that given day. Same for PI.

I think we are saying the same thing. Imagine if holding were reviewable, same problem.

Yes. But to say the NFL doesn't want to go there is irrelevant. They are here.
One way to handle PI would be to review it in real time only. If it is obvious you reverse the call, if not you don't. Slowing the tape down to frame by frame is not good for the game, reviewing it in real time would allow reversal of egregious calls. Which I think is really what the intent of the rule is.

Drew Brees is about the smallest, non super athletic QB in the NFL, but yet he can take a snap and stick the nose of the ball over the goal-line and has done so many times. Your telling me Rodgers can’t do the same thing? The goal line makes it a doable play as once it breaks the plain it’s a TD nothing else matters. Some teams make 1 yard plays seem so easy and other teams make it like 3rd and 51.

I did miss the second half of the game.

PHI fan saying there was one worse than this that didn't get called in replay? Please direct me to that. I no believe.

Before the ball arrives, the defender literally hits the WR in the back, wraps his arms completely around him, pins the WR's arms to his sides ...

ball bounces off said wrapped up WR for the game ending INT. .... No flag.

Isn't this the EXACT scenario the NFL put the new rule in place for? The game deciding play that needs to be called correctly.

I get it, NFL doesn't want every slight infraction called; ball hits the ground. No call / no reversal. Middle of the game ... meh, let it go.

But this is the LAR / NOS all over again. Almost the same scenario, same results.

How is grabbing WR from behind and pinning both arms different from the LAR player running into the WR?

Neither WR stood any chance at catching the pass. I don't see one being more egregious than the other. Same penalty applies.

I'm not a GB fan and I'm not hatin on PHI. I don't care the 2 teams involved. No dog in this fight. This is just absurd to me.

How is GB fan taking this sitting down? If that were my team, I would be outraged.

NFL puts provisions in place to "get the call right" ... and they STILL continue to get it wrong. Dumbfounding.

I see it differently and think it was a good non call. The defender was there what, maybe .1 seconds ahead of time? It was not even close to being as bad a call as the LAR/NO non call.
