Santana? He shouldn't even be considered right now.Webb, Volquez, Lincecum, Zambrano and Peavy would be the front runners right now.santanawebbpeavyzambrano
Volquez
This is the correct answer, but it's Webb w/o question right now.dugout said:Santana? He shouldn't even be considered right now.Webb, Volquez, Lincecum, Zambrano and Peavy would be the front runners right now.santanawebbpeavyzambrano
Volquez: 8-2, 1.32 ERA, 10.9 K/9Webb: 10-2, 2.69 ERA, 7.8 K/9
You forgot to take into account the idiot sports writers variable, they're the ones who vote - the guy with the higher era and lower K/9 rate with name recognition on the division leader would win if voting were done now.Volquez: 8-2, 1.32 ERA, 10.9 K/9Webb: 10-2, 2.69 ERA, 7.8 K/9![]()
Because he's running him out there every 5th? If that's the case I disagree. If you think he's leaving him out there too long, I think a case could be made for that. The power pitcher has a short shelf life these days and I don't blame him for what he's probably considering building on success. coughMARKPRIORKERRYWOODcoughBut I suppose he does have a track record...Dusty that is.Webb has a track record, so you could make a better case for him over Volquez of keeping this pace going forward. The thing that would hurt Volquez in the end is if he only tops out at 16 wins or so and Webb goes 20+.I still think Dusty is ruining what looks to be a very special arm.
Winning 9-0, 7th inning, has thrown 100+ pitches, rainy conditions - Dusty sends him back out there.Yea, I'd say he's leaving him out there too much.Because he's running him out there every 5th? that's what I meant. Perfect example tonight. Cueto finishes the fifth inning with over 100 pitches and an 8-3 lead. Time to let the Bill Bray's of the world earn their money, right? Wrong, Cueto trots back out for one more meaningless inning and exits with a 115 pitch count. If you want to ruin Affeldts arm, go for it. Lincoln? Majewski? You can find guys like that in an instant if you burn them out. Cueto could be one of those special long term starters that you can build your staff around. THAT is the arm you baby. Not Bill Bray's.Statorama said:that's what I meant. Cy Young's are won after the All Star break, not before.
He'll be in the discussion, just as soon as he's traded to the NL.Cliff Lee down?

play shoulda been made, but hardly routine. smashed by hermindaIt amazes me that Volquez continues to lead the league in ERA despite having probably the worst defense in baseball behind him. Again last night his earned runs came as a result of a routine ball that Votto misplayed being ruled a hit by Florida's official scorer. Every time I watch him, I wonder if anyone would EVER score if he had a good defense behind him.
Agreed. Probably scored an error at home, but definitly not an easy play to make.play shoulda been made, but hardly routine. smashed by hermindaIt amazes me that Volquez continues to lead the league in ERA despite having probably the worst defense in baseball behind him.
