Football Outsiders projections did not like the Saints this year at all (they did like Tampa), but they tried to explain it away as a fluke due to Hurricane Katrina. Maybe not?

2 point average victory...1 more foot for Wilkins and 1/2 a second later for Shanny and both these teams are 1-1
 Yeah. Sucks to be a Raider fan.
I think he meant week 1 vs. Buffalo where they got the kick off last second. Half a second too late calling the timeout in OT vs. the Raiders and Denver is 0-2.
How about we give the Broncos credit for pulling those games out at the end? :)

Well, only if you accept that New Orleans' performance in 2005 was an accurate representation of their abilities (which I most certainly do not, if for no other reason than that they didn't play a true home game all season long). 2007 projections were based on performance from the past two seasons, so if you believe that the 2005 data is flawed, then the 2007 projection is likewise going to be flawed. Now, the Saints might be a lot worse than expected this year, but that would be more a result of coincidence than any forecasting power of the projection system, since the output is only as good as the input data, and the input data on the Saints is no good.

Didn't Wilkins miss by more than that? Just curious.
It looked like Wilkins kick grazed the bottom of the cross bar. In the Raider game, Shanny called a time out literally 1/2 second prior to the snap of the ball. I think they had 3 seconds in Buffalo...

I am not talking playoffs, but there is hope in Detroit. The last few years, the Lions would not have gone on the road, give up a 17 point lead and come back to win. The old Lions would not have beaten one of the best defenses...yet alone after losing their starting QB for 2 quarters. There are no easy wins in the NFL. Look at the Cinci-Cle game. People are talking about Denver as if they are a great team and yet they barely beat the Raiders at home. For a Lions team that has been consistenly among the worst teams over the last 5 years, winning 2 games is a big step forward- even if those 2 teams aren't Super Bowl contenders.

Good point - sorry for raining in your sunny spot. Carry on with hope. :goodposting: The Friendlier SharkPool

The Saints routinely crumble under the pressure of raised expectations from the media. I expect a rebound in week 5 vs. the Panthers, since New Orleans will be completely off the radar after a loss on Monday to the Titans and the week 4 bye.
