Ed Reed 35% and glad he can walk, Ray Lewis not getting younger (1 Viewer)

Of course the Ravens are overrated. Reputation carries extra weight in pre-season fantasy rankings, especially on D/ST. But except for 1 or 2 fantasy D/ST's each year, there can be big turnover in the top-10. Hopefully you're picking yours in the late rounds with kickers anyway (right?).

The real issue is not that the Ravens D is getting old, it's that the offense will have less leads to protect, less conservative attacks.

Not to hijack (because it's a valid point, the absurdly high ranking on Ravens D/ST) but I just thought "Offense" when I saw the title of this thread.

Everyone talks Rice, and that's fine. But me, I'm talking Flacco as the potential VPOY (Value Pick of the Year).

Sorry if perceived as a hijack.

:lmao: Not at all is this a hijack. I really agree with your Flacco sleeper. This offense is going to need to keep up with other teams on the scoreboard. Both sides of this question are fair to debate.

Yeah, their offense has really been ramped up over the past few years. Their defense has aged, but I think the drafting of Kindle and Cody and others this year will really help them out in the long term...

I consider Ngata to be a big time player, but I otherwise agree with the OP. Ray Lewis had some pretty prominent limitations last year due to his lack of speed and athleticism. He's still one of the smartest and hardest hitting linebackers, so he certainly brings a lot to the table, but the Ravens' defense is no longer elite. It's possible that Cody and Kindle return them to the ranks of the elite, but that's not likely to happen this season.

Don't think they are overrated at all.

It all starts up front, and the Ravens have a fantastic NT in Ngata, and they drafted an unbelievable player in Terrance Cody to rotate in.

I agree with the bolded and think Cody will be an absolute steal. That said, I also agree that this D will be overrated. Edge rushers and LB's key this defense and those spots are where the slide has already begun and will continue. They vastly overpaid Suggs and I don't think Kindle develops into an impact rusher. The secondary is underwhelming, especially with Webb coming off injury, and I think opposing QB's will have time to exploit that.

Cody is a flesh-pile who will buckle and whimper after the premier NFL O-linemen beat his inner-tube butt. There's a reason Cody fell so far.If Cody was all-that he would have gone top-10. I've met him: I've seen him play live 3 times. The NFL will eat him alive. He's not conditioned, prepared, or structured for this war. Trust me. There are no sissies on an NFL O-line.

Completely 100 % disagree.Cody will be a stud two down lineman. A space eater who will keep blockers off the linebackers. ANd since he has Ngata in front of him, he will be particularly fresh. I believe he slipped in the draft because he is not a 3 down lineman and there were concerns about his weight. The Ravens got an absolute steal who will be an anchor for that D.

The coaches and the veteran players like Lewis won't LET Cody being a pansy-###. He'll do well in time...

If you're No. 2, there's really no room for error, so more than likely they own't live up to their ADP. The Jets probably won't either, even though they're my NO. 1 D heading into the season.

Whether the Ravens are 1 or 2, the question really is will the Ravens produce as a fantasy defense and I think they will. I think they have a nice mix of aging players with some young talent. I think the offense has some potential to make some things happen and maybe the defense won't be on the field as much, saving some legs for later in the season.

I agree they are overrated somewhat, but if the offense improves and can stay on the field longer, the older vets on defense will have more time to rest, so that will help (marginally).
