I can't decide on whether either of these guys has any value this year with Welker 'healthy'. I probably should just avoid both, but if Welker were to go down again...there could be some production from that underneath game in N.E. Right now leaning towards getting Tate and stashing him away. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

A few things here:
*Edelman had a real solid rookie year..especially when you consider the fact he was a seventh round pick who played QB at a mid-level college. He has a chance to be a very productice NFL player. The problem he has right now is his skill-set appears to coincide with Welker's and if Welker is healthy he's the man. It has been reported that Edelman has been taking some snaps at RB...that's probably BB's way of trying to figure out ways to get him involved.
*Right now Tate is an unknown quantity. There's a lot of physical talent there but you're just not gonna know what he is until the season starts. On paper he appears to be a great fit to take over the Stallworth role from a few years ago. With Moss and Welker on the field he's going to get nothing but single coverage and he will have the opportunity to turn into a home-run hitter. If he thrives in that role he may see the end zone a few times in 2010 and be in-line for a serious upgrade in playing time in 2011 if the Pats let Moss walk after this year.
*The Price kid the Pats took in the third round has been getting some good reviews. Like Edelman he's from a mid-level program. Also, the Pats took two TE's (Gronkowski and Hernandez) in the draft and both have the potential to be involved in the passing game. I know many are forecasting Hernandez to be a big part of the offense even though TE has been somewhat of an after-thought under BB. Torry Holt is also in the fold but reports are he has looked sluggish. This potential depth could mean that for the first time in a few years the Pats may spread the ball around a little more than usual.
If I had to choose one for 2010 I would go with Edelman. Even if Tate is the real deal I see him being very much hit or miss from game-to-game. As for Edelman I see him being more involved on a weekly basis (especially in PPR leagues). If Welker were to have a setback Edelman would take a good majority of those receptions. Yet, even if Welker stays healthy I think the potential is there for Edelman to really improve over last year. The Pats O is not easy to figure out. Veteran WRs like Galloway, Gabriel and Hayes got eaten up by it. For Edelman to transistion pretty smoothly into it as a rookie who never played the position is pretty impressive. Now that he has a year under his belt I think his potential is very intriguing and I would roll the dice that BB carves out a niche for him.

I gotta go Tate here, dynasty wise (I wouldn't roster either for a redraft) because he has all the tools. And he was drafted highly...even though they knew his rookie season was a loss due to injury.
This is the guy we liked more than Nicks at UNC. And he's gonna be the vertical threat, the TD guy. He's a monster with a load of talent and hasn't had any red flags...he just got hurt his last year of college. He's a playmaker, and I go after him wherever I can.

That's where I'm at. Edelman would be getting drafted way too early this year if Welker's rehab was the usual length, but it seems like that little rat ain't gonna miss a beat. However, if Welker isn't ready to go, Edelman becomes interesting.
