Edge James to make major strides in 2007? (1 Viewer)

Eventhough it was pretty predictable that Edge would struggle in 2006, he was selected too high in many drafts and ended up being one of the bigger dissappointments last season. Based on how much he underperformed in 2006, a lot of early 2007 rankings have Edge listed way too low in my opinion for a couple of obvious reasons. First off, they have two former Steeler assistants that were important in turning the Steelers in a dominating running team. They've made it no secret that they plan on making the running game a major focus of the offense. Last season, the Cards offense was around 78% passing .. this will change. Besides the new OL talent that has been brought in, I have a lot of faith that the new coaching staff can improve the blocking. That being said, I think that if people draft based on rankings, he should be one of the bigger surprises in 2007.

He's a very safe play for top 15 numbers IMHO. The type of guy I would love to have as my #2 RB.

While it looks obvious in hindsight I believe Edge was ranked fairly high last year based in large part on the "high powered" Card offense with Warner/Leinart, Fitz/Boldin and the recently added Edge. He was the missing piece that would make the offense work. Fast forward a year and that obviously wasn't the case. I think Edge and the line will improve how much I'm not really sure. There's a lot of transition there with the coaching staff and players and I wouldn't expect the immediate results but they should get better as the year goes (I think GB last year is a good example).

Right now he's ranked 17th which seems about right to me. Personally, I'd probably place him above Ronnie Brown but that's about it at this point. He's got some upside but like I said I'd suspect he'll be better in the 2nd half after the line has gelled a bit than right out of the gate.

On a related note, does anyone know how to get last years rankings? are they archived? I would be interested in seeing what Edge (along with another of other players) were ranked last year about the same time. For some reason I think he was ranked in the 12-14 range.

thx Reg....as I thought he was ranked 11th overall so it wasn't as obvious as it appears to be now. wow...Ronnie Brown 5th, Jordan 8th and Caddy 9th. the major correlation with all the failures seems to be offensive line implosion....

and :lmao: QB play - all 3 are correlated - these offenses basically started collapsing from the word go last year.

This is where I majorly tweaked my projection methodology...I now take QB risk much more into account when projecting for WRs and to some degree RBs. QB implosion really jacked my rankings last year...particularly at WR.

hes a nice target in redrafts..
Maybe for 2 years. With no one on the roster to seemingly take over long term, I would say that he's the starter next year as well. The Cards have to find someone in the draft next year to be the heir apperent but I don't see that guy starting week 1 of 08 barring an injury....

he'll be 30 in Aug and already has had 2525 carries plus 285 recs in his career.... not to sure you can count on him for 2 yrs.

If he has another sub 3.5 year in AZ, the Cards will be drafting a RB next year...you heard it here first.

I personally don't think he will because the O-Line will be vastly improved especially on the right side where Edge is best, but stranger things have happened.

so u think he's gona to last till 33.5 and has what, another 800+ carries in him :bye:

Coaches are often just as crucial to the development of an o-line as the players themselves. Case in point, when Mike Tice came to the Jaguars two years ago, their line was an underachieving group that simply couldn't muster success in pass protection or in the ground game. Two years later, MJD and Taylor are running behind huge holes and the overall level of play has risen- especially from the guards- to an almost elite level.

And who better than Russ Grimm to continue the trend? I'm not saying we will see significant improvements immediately, I'm just saying the line should take a turn for the better very soon. Hopefully Edge can hold up for the duration.

Even if he doesn't have a sub par year the Cards draft a guy next year. Edge is getting too old to count on much past a year. If they get two years out of him they would be ecstatic, but they can;t bank on that....

He's 28 right now.. I'm not saying one way or the other, but facts are facts.
