With Emanuel Sanders most likely starting and going up against the New England Defense does that push Emanuel up to a low end #2 WR this week? I would think Pittsburg would have to pass a lot to try and stay in this game. He has the talent and seems he will have a good opurtunity.

What do you think? He is also available in my 14 team league on waivers.

I'm starting him. I don't know about WR2 production but I think he's a decent upside WR3 play this week. The Patriots' pass defense has been awful, the Steelers can't run the ball and Brady is having another MVP season. Put it all together and I expect Ben to be winging it a lot on Sunday. I think both Brown and Sanders could be good sleeper picks this week (Wallace is obviously a WR1 stud).

Sanders is a better blocker than Brown so he will get more snaps but not sure if his chances will increase a lot I think it's a coin flip between sanders and brown this week (assuming Ward is out).I'm wrestling with which one to start in my leauge as WR#3, I have both. Currently, leaning towards Brown so that means Sanders will be huge.

I agree and am pondering playing him over Breaston and Doucet as my WR2 (I know, ugly).

I was surprised to find that Rotoworld doesn’t even have him listed in their WR rankings that covers 61 guys. I don’t know if it was a huge oversight on their part or if they really believe Brian Hartline and Ocho Cinco are better plays.

Those things can happen when you have different people responsible for different parts of the site. They have listed Sanders as a sleeper WR3 option this week in both the player notes and the weekly matchup article. Greg Rosenthal usually does the rankings so he must have a different take or he did them thinking Ward was going to play.

If Brown is off the WW in your league, I'd take him. But Brown has been playing very well lately, like him more even with Sanders starting. Then again, who really knows.

I like Brown more than Sanders too but I think Sanders has a good shot given the matchup. I'd be surprised if the Steelers didn't have to throw it a ton on Sunday. Both Brown and Sanders did well last week too.

agree with Packersfan, lots of reasons to start him at #3 with upside. news came out this afternoon that is pointing towards him starting. don't think i play him personally unless i see Ward is inactive. Ward inactive think i start him over Greg Little and those dartboard middle tier #3 guys.

Topman - it would be interesting to see a poll to find where everyone stands on a starter for this week between Sanders & Brown.

I believe if Sanders gets th start he will be more valuable. I keep reading he is a better blocker that is why he is starting over Brown. Although blocking is important I have never heard of WR staring over another WR becauase he is a better blocker. I am hoping for around 7-76 and 1TD.

Better Blocker? Like the Steelers are going to run the whole game? No thanks, give me the guy that has been getting the rock thrown to him almost as much as Wallace....Brown. He has the second most targets of the team.

I think both are solid plays. I wouldnt even call Sanders a sleeper this week. If it came down to it, Id rather start Brown as I think he's a lock for at least 60yards. I think Sanders value hinges much more on getting a TD, and Id be shocked if he outscored Brown without getting a TD.

Pats usually try and take away the #1 option. I'm betting that Bill B. shuts Wallace down, trys to keep Ben in the pocket, and forces him to take the underneath stuff.

Brown and Sanders both could have huge days.

I think it is a lock that Brown will out produce Sanders.

I own Brown in 2 leagues (spot starting him) and all though he had a good game last week and some other decent games, he still doesn't have a td yet. Home team FF karma dictates that Brown's 1st (and maybe 2nd) tds of the year will likely come against my beloved Patriots and they will probably be long ones to boot.

Let me also give the Mendy owners some hope; I own him in 1 league and the same type of irresistible force paradox will be at work; put Mendy down 70 and 2 short tds.

I am ashamed to say that I am ok with all that, as LONG as NE still finds a way to win :boxing:

I am hoping there are some Steeler fans out there who are fellow Hernandez (1 league) owners and the karma kicks into overdrive ;)

Happens quite a bit. Roy Williams starts for the Bears over Johnny Knox, for one.

I thought that we had moved past this? Brown has overtaken Sanders as the #2 WR on that team /thread and don't bring up Ward for crying out loud.

I think the fact Sanders got the nod to start over Brown likely merits discussion. Whether it's due to his blocking or not, he's likely to see more snaps.

it's due to blocking. PFF does of a great job of dissecting their snaps - Brown's presence on the field tips off the other team that the Steelers are likely to pass.

If I'm not mistaken, Brown has been getting a ton of targets out of the slot. If that's the case, then it would seem as tho Brown's role remain the same with Ward out.

Ward has 39 targets on the year as the WR2.

Brown has 48 as the #3/slot.

Wallace has 51.

I wouldn't read into Sander's snaps, blocking skills or "#2" status at all. Brown would seem the lock to get more targets on Sunday. We should get a good look at how Sander's compares with Ward, though, obviously.

Some sound reasoning here.

Agree with your reasoning. Brown's role should be the same this week. It's Sanders likely to make the bigger leap in snaps/targets from the norm. That said, I'm not sure Brown has been playing out of the slot. Hasn't Ward been moving into the slot in 3 WR sets? If Sanders is moving into the slot on 3 WR sets this week as has been speculated, it would stand to reason they are keeping Brown's role the same (keeping him outside).Interested in any input from Pittsburgh homers on this...

If theyre saying Sanders is taking Ward's role, I would assume Brown would see more snaps from the slot. That said, I think both of them will be moving around a lot.

I was debating whether or not to pick him up off waivers, leaving him on the bench, not starting a DB (for the extra bench spot) and seeing if I could trade him high if he goes off this week, but I need all the points I can get this week.

I have all three (Wallace, Brown and Sanders) in a start 4WR league along with VJax and Nelson. Take a chance on playing all three and sit Nelson over VJax? Hate putting all my eggs in one basket. FBG has Brown and Sanders virtually even for my league.

Considering GB is on a bye, Im assuming this is David Nelson. Id easily start all 3 PIT WRs over DNelson.

Rarely have lineup questions. But I'm struggling with Branch or Sanders.

I also have M. Wallace in lineup. Leaning towards starting Sanders over Branch. Would think good chances one of them blows up.

I think NE's TE's will tear up PIT. Between them and Welker taking targets, I think Sanders has more upside than Branch

Both teams are very suspect against good passing teams. I think I'd go for Sanders.I'm starting Brown over Branch this week, however I also have Gronk and Hernandez starting in the same league.

I'm biased toward Brown and unfortunately that gets in the way of my decision making. I probably don't give Sanders enough respect that I should.

Just saw on the Stillers official site that Ward didn't practice yesterday ... that makes three straight days, yet he's listed as "questionable" ... usually a DNP all week is tantamount to INACTIVE status .... anyone close to the sitch have any insight on this?

I keep seeing that Ward is going to do everything to play. At the same time heard after practice Friday Sanders was excited to be starting this week. Being a new Sanders owner I am hoping Ward sits and Sanders has a huge game.

Ward (being a resident of Western PA and NOT a Steeler homer) is an egotistical guy. He LOVES the media attention and spotlight, and he is beloved in Pittsburgh. He has gone on record, several times, questioning guys who don't play when "dinged." Without practicing all week, it is unlikely he will be much of an impact player, if he does play, but I wouldn't be surprised if he "gives it a go," and either starts but does little, or is a game-day inactive, despite all his best efforts.

Read multiple reports at this point that Ward is "unlikely to play."

Why would they play him when they have better options? Of course they will probably need 4 WR sets against the PATS.

I'm starting Brown over both Chris Johnson and Fitzgerald in flex. I see Brown in for a big day and with Fitz in Baltimore and CJ2 unable to get untracked, I'm choosing opportunity over name this week.

I am considering sitting Brandon Marshall for Sanders.

Any thoughts if that is insane?

The Dolphins passing game sucks but Marshall HAS to have a 2 TD game someday

I bet he plays because its NE and PIT hates them, but he will have limited snaps/be ineffective is my guess. If they go 4 wide, Cotchery would be the 4th guy if Ward is inactive and Id guess theyre fine with that, theyd probably give the backup TE Weslye Saunders more snaps as well.

Patriots placed CB Ras-I Dowling (hip) on injured reserve, ending his season.

A move that makes the Patriots' Friday release of Leigh Bodden all the more baffling. The Patriots' second-round pick, Dowlling appeared in just two games this season after turning in an injury-plagued senior season at the University of Virginia. He has now dealt with hip, hamstring, knee and ankle injuries the past two seasons. New England's 32nd ranked pass defense is now down to just Devin McCourty, Kyle Arrington, Antwan Molden and Phillip Adams at cornerback. Ben Roethlisberger could have a career day Sunday.
