Empty NFL rosters, GMs draft all their players, if... (1 Viewer)

Workplace water cooler debate.

I say Rodgers, maybe Brees, but that's it. Others suggested Cam and Brady. No other names were mentioned. Curious what people here think.

I think the list is a little longer than you think. NFL GM's are going to take a proven NFL franchise QB at a reasonable age over any college prospect, no matter how good he is. I'd rather have 4-5 years of a proven elite player like Brady than to risk taking a bust which will set me back for that same amount of time.

Rodgers

Brees

Newton

Brady

Manning

Stafford

Freeman

at least.

I think it depends on your outlook. Remember that pro coaches and GMs are fighting for survival. Merely keeping your job is an important achievement, so I think they might be inclined to favor a known quantity like Roethlisberger or Rivers over a could-be like Luck or Newton, no matter how promising the latter might be. You already know that Ben and Rivers can get you into the playoffs and maybe win a Super Bowl. You don't know that with the young guys yet.

I think most pro GMs would rather have these guys:

Rodgers

Rivers

Roethlisberger

I think some pro GMs, the ones who favor an extremely short term outlook, would rather have these guys:

Brady

Brees

Peyton (if healthy)

I think some pro GMs would prefer these guys depending on personal inclinations:

Newton

Stafford

So that puts Luck at roughly #9. I think he's higher than that if you take a 5+ year outlook (obviously).
