Eric Johnson contract status? (1 Viewer)

Just curious about how long this guy is signed on with SF - you have to figure if he were a FA next year, he'd land a starting gig somewhere.

Johnson will be an unrestricted free agent.

He'll likely garner a hefty paycheck from whomever signs him.

If I had to guess, I'd say he goes to one of the young QBs, very likely Denver.

I thought the Donkeys were pretty happy with Scheffler. Is that not the case?

If I am not mistaken Gonzo and Daniel Graham are both free agents after this year, so Johnson while be 3rd in line at the pay window.

In addition, the Niners are trying to re-ign Johnson before he hits the open market. Talks, supposedly, have begun but I do not know how far they have gotten.

Here is a blurb I found that talks more on this subject:

49ers | Team wants to re-sign E. Johnson

Published Fri Nov 24 2:30:00 a.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have entered into preliminary contract negotiations with TE Eric Johnson. However, no contract agreement between the two sides appears imminent. Head coach Mike Nolan admitted to wanting Johnson back and said contact had been made with Johnson's agent. The 49esr are expected to have $40 million of salary-cap space for the 2007 season.

Graham is, pretty sure Gonzo is locked up until 2038.I'd really like to see EJ stick with the 9ers. A double TE set with Gore would be dirty, especially as explosive as both EJ and VD are.Phrased like that quote, I suppose I would expect that he will be re-signed.I guess I just assumed since he's slated to be UFA that the 9ers don't want him, since they should have extended his contract sooner.... pretty tired. I think 9ers homers would have a better idea. The Broncos prediction is really just a "best fit" scenario that I can think of. I'd like to think Scheffler has some potential in Denver, and I drafted him as my TE2 in that 16-team anarchy league this year, but with 6 receptions through 11 games, I get the feeling Shanahan doesn't feel confident in him. I mean, I understand he's a rookie, but the learning curve for a tight end is among the lowest per position in the NFL, third to only kickers and punters IMO.

Eric Johnson-TE- 49ers Mar. 5 - 11:35 pm et

The Saints will host free agent TE Eric Johnson on Tuesday.

Johnson would be a nice upgrade over Billy Miller and Mark Campbell.

Eric Johnson-TE- Saints Mar. 7 - 7:12 pm et

Saints signed former 49ers TE Eric Johnson to a one-year contract.

If anyone can make the slow-footed but sure-handed Johnson a star, it's Saints coach Sean Payton with the help of Drew Brees. Johnson is an injury risk and will have to beat out Billy Miller for the starting job, but he's someone to keep an eye on in points-per-reception leagues next year.

I love this signing for the Saints. Even though the Saints have a lot of options, I see an uptick for Johnson's fantasy value, and it never hurts having Drew Brees throw you the rock. Now if only he can stay healthy for once in his life.

I agree that this is a great signing for the Saints. They were the #1 offense in yards, but not in points. IMO, that was because of the lack of a consistent TE threat in the red zone. Johnson hasn't been a red zone star, but he also has had a QB like Brees and a coach like Payton before either.
