Word out of Detroit is LB Ernie Sims’ size could be a major detriment. Already the Lions consider him too aggressive for a third-down or nickel LB role. Sims should start on the weak side, but the big-hitting linebacker can be pushed around by bigger bodies.
i watched the game friday night and he was all over the field. super fast and has great instincts for the ball. could be a IDP sleeper in leagues this year maybe not dynasty leagues but in a redraft he may slide down the charts and could end up being great value in later rounds.
He went 2.01 in our Dynasty rookie draft (12 teams).
In a perfect world, you wouldn't need to slot him as a starter this year, so that you can watch him develop as a rookie. However Sims as LB #3 isn't the worst thing in the world either!

Obviously we don't have access to the sources PFW is seemingly plugged into, but blurbs like this are why I haven't trusted them over the past two seasons. You play guys like Sims on the weak side precisely because you wish to protect him as much as possible from bigger bodies. Not to mention the fact that those bigger bodies are much more likely to be available to push him around on running downs not passing downs.

I don't know who their sources are either but one thing is clear. Sims can bring it. You either can or cannot play. Sims can play. It would be very easy to create a list of guys that have played LB that were seen as too small. The too aggressive for thirds and nickel comment is a temporary obstacle. That is something that can be addressed and corrected with proper coaching. Sims need to learn to play with controlled chaos. My feeling is that Sims will have many instances were he finds himself out of position and by the coach's apron strings this season. However, he is well worth the investment in an IDP dynasty league.
Maybe I am the contrarian but I would sure as hell want someone tagged as overly aggressive on defense, as opposed to someone that would be considered passive or hesitant. You can coach the aggressive player down. You have to live with the passive player as is.
I say you take this tidbit; send it to the Sims owner and pick him up on the cheap. Also, throw in the comment about facing second/third teamers for good measure. Probably one of the most overrated facets of preseason football but a completely different discussion.
(KFFL) Mike O'Hara, of The Detroit News, reports Detroit Lions LB Ernie Sims has been named the starting weakside linebacker. Linebackers coach Phil Snow told Sims the news during the morning walkthrough. Head coach Rod Marinelli said, "His ability is coming. When he gets a little comfortable, his ability starts to show. He's a quick learner. Even when he doesn't, he goes the wrong way and comes back. He's so fast. He's so explosive. That's the thing. I don't want to overdo him yet. He's a heck of a player. I really like him."
