Ethics question (1 Viewer)

Headed down today.  Several hours of driving and I don't even know if he'll want to see me or if he's even able to talk to me really. I've loaded up a tablet with Netflix and created a list for him plus added some downloads and written some instructions for how to do everything.  Wish me luck.

Thanks for the support in this thread and in the sci-fi fantasy thread. Appreciate
You are a good man Fred.  A good man.

You are his brother and need to help him make the right decision. Don't just be his friend and let him make the decision on his own. Good luck.

Well this was a roller coaster.

I apparently had a successful visit, because my brother agreed to have the surgery. I think he realized the choice might be taken from him, but he sensed resigned to it, which is about the most optimistic most people would be in his situation.

During the surgery, though, they found that his colon issues were limited to a relatively small portion of the organ, and while it's not the textbook approach, the surgical team decided to remove the damage and repair it instead of going with the colostomy bag. Which is risky, but considering the risk of him taking care of himself long term, it's good news. And he was in a much better mood today.

And now it turns out that they got results from the lab.  It was cancerous.  They don't know much yet, and he's not ready for any more surgery or other treatment yet so we're in a wait and see mode.

I should have known.  This kid can't catch a break.  It's one of the more treatable kinds of cancer, but still a huge swing.

So now I'm going to have to schedule a colonoscopy for myself.  And a reminder to all of you to get your butts checked too.

You're a good brother, fred. Better than I am. Thoprawishes for your bro and your whole family.

One thing at a time...job well done here.  Keep your chin up.

Ugh... fn cancer.

Glad he got the surgery and they found it.  Much better than to not have gotten the surgery and the cancer got worse/spread.
