Explosions at Boston Marathon (2 Viewers)

Showing your true colors Cliff and every other poster taking pot shots at me in this thread. We have a board full of cyber bullies in here. Despicable and I think the staff should be a lot more on top of this bull####. How many posts with pots shots aimed at me? And for what exactly? Because I said Matt Lauer sounds like an idiot? This is still America last I checked, I have the right to express an opinion. That does not give you all the right to slam and slander the ever loving #### out of me every time you take a disagreement with my post no matter the topic. You all are the ones that need to look inward, not me. Can we put a halt on any more of this for at least tonight? I think I am a good sport most of the time, let's all just dial it down a smidge, please.
You wrote on this board a few weeks ago that you are one of the biggest ####### here.

Boston police and a cadre of federal officials descended on an Ocean Avenue apartment complex in Revere.

In addition to two Boston Police K-9 units and a bomb squad unit, a large contingent of federal agents from the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as well as Homeland Security investigations and state police had assembled at the two buildings.

It was unclear whether the search was connected to the Boston Marathon bombings. Tight-lipped agents said nothing to assembled media. Worried building residents said they were left in the dark.

Marcus Worthington, 24, a building resident said no one has told him what was happening.

“I started noticing the cars, the Taurus there and that one about 5,” Worthington said. “We were thankful we decide not to go down. It’s best not to jump to conclusions.”

Worthington’s girlfriend Whitney Drake, 24, was concerned.

“It’s never a good thing to see all of these agencies. It’s more than a local problem,” Drake said.

Revere Fire Department engine and ladder arrived with Cataldo Ambulance service arrived about 10:30 p.m.

Officials had no comment when asked by reporters what was happening.

Boston Police Crime Scene Response unit which collects evidence following major crimes arrived and two members of that unit took several brown paper bags, normally used to store evidence taken from the scene, into the building.
It is confirmed it has to do with the bombing

The source said that a suspicious driver was pulled over by Revere police after driving past the State Police barracks a number of times.

The driver reportedly had a "nervous demeanor."

I am taking this to mean it's a guy who had something to tell the police, and wasn't sure if he should go through with it.

Accurate?
That stuck out like a sore thumb. Wasn't sure what to make of it but can't think the idiot was this dumb.
Yeah, Mr. Ham had no such hesitation before he reported Otis to the Fed.

Further speculation: the guy who was pulled over in front of the MSP probably had a friend/brother/cousin/roommate who was talking a bunch of junk about blowing up a lot of people, and this guy never took him seriously. Until now.

It could be a family member, friend or even a frightened neighbor.

Might be some kid that is sick and twisted (like a James Holmes type)and it was a parent or friend who knew something

I have to tear into Matt Lauer, just seems dumber and dumber as each crisis pops up. His opening words tonight were to tell us how awesome the hospitals are that everyone is being treated to tonight...just stop! Just interview people, tell us the facts but gushing over the hospitals in Boston is not a needed part of the story.

Brian Williams now doing the same thing. NBC only network to interrupt 10PM shows to give an extra hour of coverage tonight, not even sure what they would show on NBC this time on a Monday.

So no real arrests have been made?
They aren't reporting enough bad news for you today?
OK JtC, that's fair. The people I was watching it with felt the same thing I did when it happened. It just seemed very added on, fake, and unnecessary when NBC started the 10 PM coverage. I was at work all day, I hadn't gotten much real news and I just didn't appreciate that part of his little speech.

I also did not like when Obama said in the 1st minute of his speech earlier today "We have no Republicans or Democrats today"...i wanted to throw up. It felt like a political advertisement for the US Government.

I feel bad that any of this came back on me, that was not the intent of the post.
Say what? That was exactly what Obama should have said. What the #### are you going on about??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgelHs1z-Z4

About the :50 point he starts into this part about congress and days like today there are no R and D...it's just nauseating to me, it feels like they are patting each other on the back for not fighting amongst each other during the moment of crisis.

The Lauer remark was not meant against the hospitals. NBC has a much different way of presenting and reporting the events vs let's say Fox and I'm not gonna go any further than that or we'll get too far off topic.

You are a stone, cold idiot if you have an issue with the clip you provided.

I think the media is putting a bit too much into the timing of it. Former Commissioner of Boston Police just said it would have been worse had they done it earlier. Said crowds start to dwindle by that point and that most cameras have left by then.

Watching CNN, did they just say that they found an undetonated device under the grandstands??? Man if thats true it could've been waaay worse.
I heard there were two devices that were not detonated. But every so called fact I have heard today has been rebuked later. I thought there was an explosion at the library, cell phone coverage turned off(that wasn't true), so much bad and misinformation today. Hard to sift thru it all.
Yeah, I even heard Matt Lauer was complimenting hospitals, if you can believe it! :lmao:

The timing helps to paint a picture, I think. None of us know what really happened. And I don't think speculating is inhernetly a bad thing. It becomes a bad thing when people with known political allegiances make predictable comments to defend their team and attack the other like they're on auto-pilot.

But just in response to your post, I think the timing/execution could possibly shed light on the sophistication of the attacker. My hope is this was just some random loon who learned how to make a bomb. Another hope is they find this person.

This "did he say terrorist?" stuff is ridiculous. The "is it a right wing terrorist" or "is it a Saudi native?" speculation is all fine as long as you aren't excluding all options but one and bashing all others. We, and by "we" I mean humans, like to try and figure #### out. It's when it turns to some insane party-defending nonsense that it becomes callous and shameful.

Enough of the schtick. try and respect first world problems pal.

Any more suspect information? Seriously, please?
Well it sounds like the 20 year old "Saudi national" may be nothing. I just read that he was tackled by someone because he (the Saudi guy) was running away after the explosions. I'm not sure what that means since I'm sure everyone was running away from the explosions, but in any case, it sounds like he's cooperating, and nobody is even calling him a suspect at this time.

Yeah, they said he was acting weirdly beforehand as well but seems a bit of racial profiling. Next thing seems to be the apartment in Revere with the driver leading the FBI to his apartment and them taking things out. Also have the reports of the dark skinned guy in a sweatshirt trying to get into the restricted area right before the explosions.

Also saw a few tweets that said they overheard law enforcement saying they saw a suspect on some video surveillance.

There's a story about the young boy from Dorchester who died today on Boston.com I believe. He went out to hug his dad as he finished, walked back to his young sister and mom and was killed in the explosion. His sister seems to have lost her leg and mother seriously injured. A whole family destroyed. Man...
Oh man. I am off to bed now and wish I hadnt read this post. oof

Also story of two brothers who were both there and each lost part of their leg from the knee down. Said they are from Stoneham, so not sure if they were the guys people were talking about earlier.

Truly terrible stories.

And now WBC is going to protest the funerals of those poor souls who didn't survive the bombings :( WTF is wrong with these #######s???
If they don't protest, the terrorists win.
While most of their protests have gone on rather peacefully despite posturing against them, if they were to forcefully protest a young boys funeral in Dorchester, I could see something happening. In all likelihood the protests will go more or less without event like they do across the country but this would probably elicit some crowds that are less than peaceful.

Well the closest thing to this would probably be when they said they'd protest the Sandy Hook shootings. They were there but apparently didn't show up and there were plenty of Good Samaritans there to stop them if they did. I'd imagine it'll be something like that or they'll be able to protest at such a distance they won't even be heard or seen by those that matter.

It's a heart wrenching story...but why must "journalists" write stuff that just isn't true?

The location and timing of the bombs was sinister beyond belief, done purposely to maximize death and destruction.
This is incredibly inaccurate...if those devices were placed in Kenmore Square to detonate 90 mins earlier things could/would have been much worse

Not at all, especially if you are familiar with Boston and Patriot's Day

Everyone has off from school and the Sox game begins at 11:05 ET

The game lasted 3 hours and 3 minutes, which means it ended at 2:08 Et

At that point about 35K people stream out of the ballpark into Kenmore Square

By Boston.com's own site (before the tragedy) the expected time at this mile mark is 2:21 ET

http://www.boston.com/sports/marathon/course/map/

Hardly seems like an attempt, as this reporter says,

to maximize death and destruction.
And thank the lord for that

It looked like a pretty crowded area to me. And a whole lot of people were hurt. I guess it depends on how strictly you define "maximize," but I think we're splitting hairs here. I think reporters are idiots but this seems like a strange point to take issue with.

It's journalistic sensaltionalism with no basis in fact

And not to minimize the bombs and their victims, but, again, read that language

Irresponsible IMO

But ultimately these debates are worthiless

I think all of us can rally around and support our NE brothers and sisters

I agree with what you're saying. I think, if anything, the bombs were located to maximize exposure to cameras/media. He/they wanted it highly visible.

3 dead and 144 injured is nothing to sneeze at. And honestly, a more densely crowded area probably would've resulted in more deaths, but far less injuries (with those near the bomb essentially acting as human shields)

Update from overnight (that I at least had not heard) are:

3 dead

4 total bombs (2 were either duds or prevented from going off)

140+ injuries so far

17+ of those critically injured

The fear after seeing something like this is that this is just a "test". A test to watch the response of people, check damage and "fix" it for worse next time, and "test" other errors.

I have not heard any speculation of the above because no one has been caught or taken credit for this yet but it has to be on the back of some peoples minds. Not so much a "copy cat" effect but a "how can we do this better" effect.

There's a story about the young boy from Dorchester who died today on Boston.com I believe. He went out to hug his dad as he finished, walked back to his young sister and mom and was killed in the explosion. His sister seems to have lost her leg and mother seriously injured. A whole family destroyed. Man...

Ugh. Stories like this make me really angry. I really really hope they catch those responsible, and quickly.&n

bsp;lockquote> It's a heart wrenching story...but why must "journalists" write stuff that just isn't true?

>>The location and timing of the bombs was sinister beyond belief, done purposely to maximize death and destruct

ion.lockquote> This is incredibly inaccurate...if those devices were placed in Kenmore Square to detonate 90 mins earlier things could/would have been much worse

If they were placed in a corn field in Nebraska it would have been a lot better. I think youre nit picking here GB

Hardly seems like an attempt, as this reporter says,

to maximize death and destruction.

I am minimizing nothing, just saying some of the language was irresonsible

So MOP criticizes newsmen for praising hospitals and the President for supporting bi-partisanship Makes me ####### sick to my ####### stomach
Dude just needs perspective. The Boston area hospitals ARE probably the best in the US. And they've done a fantastic job. How anyone can spin that into a negative is beyond me.

Apparently about an hour or two before the explosion, Governor Patrick was sitting right near a bomb (not sure if it was one that went off or one that failed to). There's also some chatter on Boston radio that the bombs look like amateur hour in that the explosion was directed in an upward direction whereas having them fire horizontally across the finish line would've hurt a lot more people.

The overall theme seems to be that this looks a little bit like amateur hour and if a few things were executed a little more effectively, things could've been much worse...which is scary considering how terrible things actually are.

My guess is they wanted as much tv exposure as possible, what better spot than the finish line

:lmao:
Yea, screw those guys who've been in surgery since 8am and then had 30 trauma injuries all at once and were still going after midnight. If you praise doctors, the terrorists win.
