I'm torn, because I want information, but I feel like the news gives away too much info about what/how they analyze things.
Spot on.Assinine article trying to play this as white privilege. If its a group of any sort, we go after that group. Be it a nation, a militant cell, a terrorist group.
If its an individual we go after the individual.
The difference between Islamic bombings (and why we respond to them with force, is because they are usually orchestrated by anti-us groups who them claim responsibility for this and usually a series of other actions. There is a clear and present path to an ongoing threat.
When a single white guy like mcviegh or kazyncski goes off the deep end, there is no group to go after... There is no ongoing threat. We don't respond by blowing up Idaho because Idaho as a whole isn't harboring or part of a militant cell claiming responsibility for the bombings.
What a ####ty piece of lazy journalism... Playing the race card here.
That's so April 16th.Probably unrelated like the Anthrax attacks after 9/11, but an envelope containing ricin was sent to Sen. Wicker.

I think the actual bomb goes in the cookerI don't get the pressure cooker thing. I would think it would throw all the particles up in the air, at least insofar as the side of the cooker is able to retain the energy. Why is this an ideal bomb?

I wouldn't care if we blew up Idaho though.

The only thing I'm hoping for in this situation is that they catch whoever is responsible. Hoping the people that are responsible are white, yellow, brown or black seems unnessary and race baiting.Good friend of mine is a Muslim. Pretty tough to knock a full pressure cooker over from its side (which would make the force go horizontal) into an upright position. Is it possible that this bomb was set to explode sideways, but may have just gotten knocked over or something?true.... an "ideal" bomb would explode sideways and many more people would have been killed. So I finally got around to watching this video. "Everyone else" wasn't on the ground or standing in shock. There were two other people in front of/to the side of him running away as well. You can see it plain as day in the video, yet he's being singled out for being the only guy running away? There's even a guy who cuts him off while running away.I don't disagree with either of you, just found it odd that he was running while it appears everyone else directly affected by the blast were either on the ground or standing in shock. That's an odd way to carry a backpack
when in a crowded area I always carry my backpack instead of wear it.. Not saying this guy shouldn't be a "person of interest" but that isn't a "odd" way to carry it.Holding it like that could also be a way to keep people from knocking into it. I hope this is something significant, because that's a very good photo. That's an odd way to carry a backpackwhen in a crowded area I always carry my backpack instead of wear it.. This is one of those people see what they want to see.. The reporter says "no one else is running away" and everyone else follows along.. Meanwhile watching the video there are at lesat two people running away right next to him.Holding it like that could also be a way to keep people from knocking into it. Not sure why Rob Reiner would even be at the race.
and a good way to make sure no one steals anything from it. The bag does not seem to be carrying a 6 liter pressure cooker (but I may have heard wrong on the size.)Holding it like that could also be a way to keep people from knocking into it. Probably the only backpack like that ever made.Hope so. Where did you find that link? That's the guy reddit pointed out last night.
My guess on that is that it would have been a lot harder to get into that area when the elite runners were finishing - bigger crowds, media, probably even more cops.Right now there are darned few facts out there and a whole lot of speculation.
And I have some speculation of my own. One question I have heard is, "why not set off the bombs when the elite runners crossed"? Well, the elite runners generally aren't Americans. They're mostly Kenyans and other African nationalitiies. At the time when these bombs went off is when mainstream American runners were crossing with their families standing nearby to cheer them on.
I would think that the odds that a black bag with that exact stripe pattern on the handle being in the same place is pretty low. Go to a gym and see all the bags people have. The odds that two people have the same bag is pretty low.Probably the only backpack like that ever made.Hope so. Where did you find that link? That's the guy reddit pointed out last night.

By the four-hour mark, all the VIPs are long gone. It's boring watching a bunch of mid-pack runners you don't know trot in at a 9-minute mile pace. The only people there are friends and family waiting for a specific person. So you can stroll right up, drop off your duffel bag, and casually stroll away to a safe distance.
There was a link on reddit (that I can't find now) that showed the 2012 finishing times. The 4:09 mark is right about when the most runners were crossing based on last years time, which would in theory maximize the number of runners and spectators. My guess on that is that it would have been a lot harder to get into that area when the elite runners were finishing - bigger crowds, media, probably even more cops.Right now there are darned few facts out there and a whole lot of speculation.
