I am glad for your wife's friend. I am referring to mailboxes being used to put bombs inside them; that is why they (along with trash cans) are removed along the Presidential route when he visits an area. That also doesn't look like a mailbox per se, it looks like a mail bag locker where mailmen can store their bag and part of their delivery, while they deliver the rest of the mail to the area (no public access, no slots).

Found out that she was sitting on the mailbox which allowed her to not lose her legs like her friend next to her.

I don't get the pressure cooker thing. I would think it would throw all the particles up in the air, at least insofar as the side of the cooker is able to retain the energy. Why is this an ideal bomb?

Channel 7 in Boston just had a pretty good pictorial on the news showing the first blast and someone running away with their clothes shredded as mostly everyone else is cowering. Probably ran in shock but you never know.

They don't have it up yet on their website http://www1.whdh.com/ but I'm sure it will be up soon. It is from just above the blast site and it seems like stills taken from a video that has benn turned in to FBI. No doubt they are going to find whoever did this on video.

The only thing I'm hoping for in this situation is that they catch whoever is responsible. Hoping the people that are responsible are white, yellow, brown or black seems unnessary and race baiting.

Pretty tough to knock a full pressure cooker over from its side (which would make the force go horizontal) into an upright position.

I don't disagree with either of you, just found it odd that he was running while it appears everyone else directly affected by the blast were either on the ground or standing in shock. People react differently to crazy situations. Whole thing just sucks.

You can see it plain as day in the video, yet he's being singled out for being the only guy running away? There's even a guy who cuts him off while running away.

This is one of those people see what they want to see.. The reporter says "no one else is running away" and everyone else follows along.. Meanwhile watching the video there are at lesat two people running away right next to him.

Again, not saying he shouldn't be a "person of interest" .. but it should be because he seemed to be close to where the explosion happened, not just because he "ran away".

Then again, I'm sure you are like me and carry your Camera and lens in your pack and I do my best to have a secure grip on it when around people.. One to make sure someone doesn't grab my pack and run, the other is to make sure someone doesn't bump it and casue me to drop it.

They're mostly Kenyans and other African nationalitiies. At the time when these bombs went off is when mainstream American runners were crossing with their families standing nearby to cheer them on.

By the four-hour mark, all the VIPs are long gone. It's boring watching a bunch of mid-pack runners you don't know trot in at a 9-minute mile pace. The only people there are friends and family waiting for a specific person. So you can stroll right up, drop off your duffel bag, and casually stroll away to a safe distance.

I would think that the odds that a black bag with that exact stripe pattern on the handle being in the same place is pretty low. Go to a gym and see all the bags people have. The odds that two people have the same bag is pretty low.

Plus it looks to me like he's supporting his right hand with his left.

There was a link on reddit (that I can't find now) that showed the 2012 finishing times. The 4:09 mark is right about when the most runners were crossing based on last years time, which would in theory maximize the number of runners and spectators.
