No, he didn't. He didn't lambast anyone. His only disagreement was that he said it wasn't a "tragedy", and also said that he didn't have any issues with Obama not using the word "terrorism". He said it was not a tragedy, but cowardly act. Sometimes, the left wingers should listen better.

Why would you guys discern a domestic vs. foreign terrorist in motive, re: pressure cookers? Are you talking the about the arcing military response to this?

I'm not sure I understand this question.

I think the answer he's looking for is that it will point the investigation in the proper direction. But you can google "pressure cooker bomb" and come up with some recipes. But if this bomb is similar to a bomb that went off in Hyderbad in 2009, that could be helpful.

There's no question that Al Qaeda has provided instructions for building pressure cooker bombs in the past, and middle east violence has included pressure cooker bombs for some time.

It's certainly not a definitive source of the bombings by any stretch of the imagination.

I guess my point is, what difference does it make as to why?

What difference would it make if it was coordinated domestic terrorism or coordinated international terrorism? Or lone wolf style of either foreign or domestic?

What is the story here? The random violence of this situation? Or the fact that we could some how further attack Al Queda? Whats left to attack?

I guess my thinking is, we need to somehow start managing our collective reaction to this stuff, no matter how horrible, tragic and senseless it might be. A random nut that stabs someone in Times Square or a drunk driver that takes out a family of four doesn't exactly change the way we live our lives. Because the guy who left this might be brown or white, I don't think it should either.

And frankly, I think if its a "lone white nut" this story will be over by the end of the week. But if its a foreign national, we start deploying and I frankly don't quite know why other than to "not look like a puswah"

That's kind of the point, I think. If this is a "lone white nut" story, the FBI will have the guy in handcuffs or a body bag in a relatively short period of time and people will feel slightly safer, whether that's reasonable or not. If it's not, then we've had a serious intelligence failure again, and we're going to see things shape up differently in that department. Plus, there's the question of "what can we possibly to do AQ that we aren't already" which is a pretty scary question.

People want to feel like this is an isolated incident. Whether that's true or not, finding out it's domestic and tied to a single person or very small group of people would help with that feeling.

I dont' think that necessarily has to be true. I don't know what reasonable expectation people could have of warring with a culture who's stock and trade was suicide bombing. This, if it was AQ, is the first domestic terrorist attack executed on U.S. soil in 12 years. I think we need to acknowledge and accept our evolution into a culture with a camera on every corner, but I really see no way to avoid this.

So short of moving to the country or becoming agorophobic, this is a sad possibility of life.

But if this guy acted alone, in the name of AQ, I don't see how you could stop someone like this.

To your point though, if it was coordinated and ordered from above, then we can open this discussion up.

We haven't extended this benefit to Great Britain, Germany, France, Australia, etc. Saudi Arabia may be counted as an ally, but I think there are enough ties to terrorists that giving them less scrutiny than other allies with much fewer connections to terrorists makes no sense.

Chatter comes from foreign networks, from understanding potential enemies and monitoring them. We'll see how this turns out but it is impossible for the U.S. to identify all domestic threats and when we try, people freak out about NSA accidentally monitoring their cell phone call. If you want intelligence gathering that is close to 100%, you'd have to give up a lot of your freedoms.

The terrorists aren't stupid. I could easily see some organization getting 1-2 people over here to do nothing but make a couple of amateur bombs and drop them in a heavily populated area. They would have their marching orders and there would be no "discussion" of the plan online, over the phone...



I think we as a country have done a good job preventing any grand style type attacks since 9/11. I know even a few have been thwarted. It has always shocked me we don't see more incidents like they have in the middle east. Incidents like yesterday’s in Boston, or where a guy walks onto some random city bus strapped with dynamite and takes out a couple of dozen people. It would be so hard to predict where and when attacks like that would occur; they would not require much coordination or preparation and would really instill fear into people as they go about their daily lives.

The roommates picture and address is plastered all over the newspaper. I hope some dummy doesnt take out some vigilante justice on him for some reason.

CNN confirming that it was the pressure cooker with a timing device. More evidence that it was more amateurish than anything else. Saying pressure cooker actually reduces power to an extent.

There's that, but there's also an Al Qaeda bomb-making pamphlet titled "How To Make A Bomb In The Kitchen Of Your Mom" which details pressure-cooker bombs. So there's still the conceivable connection to Mid-East terrorism.

Not saying it rules out an internationally inspired type but that it doesn't seem like a grandiose scheme from AQ or anyone else or that this signifies a failure of intelligence because by all accounts there was no chatter at all about this.

I think someone's been watching too many movies.

Or you know, just listening to the news and all the reports coming out that they didn't have any credible threats to act on.
