I would think that if an explosion happened right next to that mailbox, that it would have caused some damage to the box itself. The pic is blurred out, but the box looks fine to me.

Second Marathon victim IDed: Krystle Campbell

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/second-boston-marathon-victim-identified-krystle-campbell-174401374.html

Quote

A second victim in the Boston Marathon bombings has been identified: Krystle M. Campbell, a 29-year-old from Medford, Mass.

Her father, William A. Campbell Jr., told Yahoo News he's in shock that his daughter was killed.

"My daughter was the most lovable girl. She helped everybody, and I'm just so shocked right now. We're just devastated," he said. "She was a wonderful, wonderful girl. Always willing to lend a hand."

Campbell was at the finish line with a friend to cheer on her boyfriend, who was running the race. William Campbell said he doesn't know if her boyfriend finished the race before the bombs went off.

More than 170 people were wounded17 of them criticallyand three were killed in the attacks.

The other identified victim, 8-year-old Martin Richard, was running away from the first explosion with his family when the second blast killed him. His mother and 6-year-old sister were injured in the blast as well.
There is a pretty graphic picture of her online. I feel for any of her family or friends that saw that.
Was she already dead in the picture or just severely injured?
CNN had two of the male nurses working in the medical tent on late last night. One had Iraq experience, don't know specifically about the other - both had 20+ years in the field though. The non-Iraq guy said one of the first people he came to was a young woman who they tried to save but they ruled dead on the scene. He inferred they didn't rule the young boy or the other to be named victim dead at the scene, the woman - yes, though. So, I'm guessing yes she's dead in those pictures.
She was alive in one of the pictures.
Yes, she's partially on her side in that one. I think that one's still up in some of the galleries.

It also doesn't match up with authorities saying the bombs were in black nylon bags or backpacks. Although the location certainly fits.

Stayed away from this thread for a day. This is just awful. Hate to hear the politics already on both sides. Prayers for everyone that was affected by this. Hope they find who did this quickly.

Thats just not true. The FBI hasn't said a word about anything... literaly.

I mean I'm not saying for sure thats the bomb, but unless the second picture is a fake, that's definitely the area that it blew up.

That bag is nothing. ZERO. There is little to no damage to that mailbox and the fence around the bag. On top of that the explosions did not affect the runners. If it was on that side of the barrier, ti would have taken some of them out.

That's a pretty big bag. Would have to think there's another photo out there of someone either carrying it, leaving it or standing right there with a big backpack, etc. If that's it it's a huge break.
I mean this has to be it right?
If the bomb blew off limbs it would certainly obliterate a simple bag of trash. It does seem extremely suspicious if the pictures were taken within minutes of the attack

Actually, it looks like the location doesn't quite fit. The twitter pic shows the Crate & Barrel and some Fish Co with a blue awning. The Forum restaurant is right next to the Fish Co (you can see the blue awning in the news pic). The blast in the twitter pic is farther down the street.

You are incorrect. The FBI/ATF said in a press conference they found nylon shards and believe it may have been in a large black nylon bag. Told people if they saw someone with such a bag or one that looked quite heavy/big to report it.

That segment seems pretty compelling. I think it is clear that the blast came from the runner's side of the fence based on the way that the fence collapsed, and that bag is placed just on the other side of the fence at what appears to be the epicenter of the blast.
Why does it look to me that they just blurred out the bag, and some or all of it is still there?

And how does a fence/barracade piece(in 2nd picture by person iin purple) end up by itself halfway across the street if package was on the street side

More complete story on Arredondo - been through a lot in life

In 2004, Arredondo’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo, died in battle in Najaf, Iraq.

When Marines arrived in a van to deliver the news, on Arredondo’s 44th birthday, he grabbed a can of gasoline and a torch from his garage, climbed inside the van and doused it, then set fire to it, severely burning himself in the process, The Associated Press reported at the time.
The New York Times wrote about Arredondo in 2007, finding him a man distraught who was manning a makeshift mobile memorial in the back of his pickup. There was a coffin containing his son’s favorite possessions, and then there were the photos. They depicted Alexander Arredondo as a happy teen, then as a fully-battle-equipped warrior, then as a body in a coffin.

“As long as there are Marines fighting and dying in Iraq, I’m going to share my mourning with the American people,” he told the paper.
In 2007, Arredondo was publicly beaten during an anti-war demonstration in Washington, according to WarIsACrime.org, which carries photos of the incident and an account from Arredondo’s wife.

And in December 2011, just before Christmas, Carlos’ other son, Brian, 24, took his own life as U.S. troops were withdrawing from the war that left his brother dead, according to numerous media reports.

“We are broken people,” he told The Boston Herald.

 In the afternoon presser with everyone standing there in suits, they said black nylon bags or black backpacks.

They are saying black bags but that it could have easily been placed in another bag to make it less conspicuous. Either way, I'm sure the experts will pinpoint the center of the explosion.

crazy idea, take all the pics and video the fbi has and let 4chan have at it. I bet they'd come up with something first.
I agree. If they posted all the videos online for everyone to look at, I bet the "internet" would figure it out very quickly.
I was reading that as of early this afternoon the FBI had over 3 terabytes of pictures and videos.
Put all of it on a secure FTP server. Let the Internet have at it. Even if they just flag suspicious videos they might spot things. How many people would it take to go over 3 Tb of videos with a fine tooth comb.Heck maybe the FFA could solve it.

Reddit is trying to organize to pour over everything that's public.

It looks like the fence/barricade was bent around the mailbox - seems more likely if the blast was on the other side of the fence.

If it was by the mailbox - I now know where to go in a nuclear attack if that thing came out unscathed. Close the Post Office down and move them over to Defense

It was difficult to see what was going on with the fence in that blurred out picture. I'll have to take another look at it. I suppose that portion of the fence laying in the middle of the road probably makes the bomb more likely to have been placed on the spectators' side of the fence.

Probably the same CNN anchor who came back after a commercial break, "Breaking news just in. The Boston Red Sox held a moment of silence before their game in Cleveland."

Is everything breaking news now days?

will pats fans be pissed if he has 100 drops, zero catches?
Bills fan chiming in to say that I still feel obliged to hate Danny Amendola. He could singlehandedly rescue a busload of orphans from going off a cliff, and I'd still root for whoever is playing safety for us these days to lay him out now that I don't have Welker to hate.

somebody asked one of the volunteers that has been working the marathon for 17 years, if anything looked suspicious. the guy was like um no.like the guy would say, why yes i saw something yesterday but decidedto hold out

Until they get something on the investigation, that is breaking news.

Saw this on reddit - sigh

http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/21988916/2013/04/16/plane-brought-back-to-gate-at-logan-airport#ixzz2QdbUfrar

Plane brought back to gate at Logan Airport
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Sources told FOX 25 there was an American Airlines flight that was headed to Chicago. There were two men on that plane – not sitting next to each other – and speaking Arabic.

There were some concerned marathoners on the flight so the plane was brought back to the gate and the two men were escorted off the plane.

No other details were immediately available.

Dammit. I really hope there's more to this story or that it's not true.

Kind of hard to tell what's going on there.

Is that the same guy at both sites? Once with a black backpack (that appears to be heavy the way he's holding it), and once with a brown bag similar to the one that ends up on the other side of the fence?
Yah I am not sure what's really going on it with it either. I am guessing whoever is enlarging the photos thinks it the same person...

Also Reddit is trying to identify the model of the pressure cooker here, http://www.reddit.com/r/inthenews/comments/1chphe/boston_marathon_explosion_live_update_thread_8/c9glrom ... They have it narrowed down to like 3.
