Explosions at Boston Marathon (1 Viewer)

Savanah Guthrie interviewing a former classmate of the suspect at large, kids name is Ash Raffle...I suspect a Baba Booey at any moment

So, the uncle keeps changing his story about the last time he spoke to them? He's displaying far more outrage than family members typically do in these situations? His brother is threatening retaliation against the U.S.?

Yep, the uncle is the ringleader.

The Russian guy I work with said based on their first and last names they are from Kyrgyzstan. I said they are from Chechnya. He said there family probably moved 40 or 50 years ago. He said all this like it was important.
Fennis, if convenient:

Would you mind asking the Russian fellow if he meant that the brothers are Kyrgyzstani because they've adopted the Russian ending "-ev" to the original Chechen name "Tsarni" (Uncle Ruslan's last name). From what I can gather, the Kyrgyz have mostly adopted Russian endings for their surnames.

TIA

Can we patch the Blitz into this coworker for an exclusive?

Assuming this turns out to be some Chechnyans conducting a terrorist attack on a highly publicized U.S.-based event as a way to highlight their cause ...but in doing so, they happen to kill a Chinese citizen. So now you've ticked off the Chinese, and that could really backfire on them.

JonMx and MadSweeney, take your fight elsewhere. Nobody here wants to read it.
+1
I never start engaging MS. He always starts the personal attacks. I agree, none of this has a place on this forum, but someone punches you in the gut, you don't respond?
He didn't punch you in the gut.
Ok....He mischaracterized everything I said and made several personal attacks.
Okay we get it, you are a two year old that has to get the last word in...take it to the playground

Sorry if I missed, but do we know if they were 1st identified via the 7-11 incident or previously from response to the pics put out by FBI yesterday?
from what I can tell:

their pictures were released yesterday by the FBI.

then they robbed the 7-11.

then they shot the MIT cop (read a report today that they ambushed him last night, I read speculation they were trying to plant a bomb on campus)

then there was a carjacking and shootout. on the scanner last night, the police were using different names for them so they thought they were 2 different guys.

their true identities weren't released until early this morning.

Today Show (Richard Engel interviewed by Savanah Guthrie) reporting that the group the suspects are linked to is a splinter group of Al-Qaeda

Would love to hear a source on this, the media have gotten things so completely wrong I don't trust a whole lot of what they are reporting.

I have heard that the Chechnyan rebels are pretty substantially Muslim, but I'm probably wrong. Still, it wouldn't surprise me to find that they're trying to get back to relevancy.

Agree totally. That's why I'm making sure to include where I'm hearing it and from whom. It's also curious they give the amorphous "Law Enforcement Officials" as the source.

Thanks, Aaron. NBC now reporting the older brother was out of the country for six months just last year, so speculating now about possibility of him receiving training then. Believe I read -maybe here- that a friend said he had taken a trip and was "different" when he returned.

Great.
It would be sobering to know that AQ -- after having lost bin Laden and so many lieutenants -- still has the wherewithal to switch tactics and recruit Americanized young people. I realize that Al Qaeda is more a set of ideals than a firm organization, but still.

No this is true. And it was reported earlier by Yahoo that the brothers have a "Islam world view", whatever that means.

So potentially: Dzhorkar was recruited by Tamerlan, possibly without Dzhorkar ever having travelled overseas for training.
