I think they found the vehicle he was last seen in, but didn't see him once he was on foot. He must have lost them temporarily, ditched the car, and found a place to hide in the neighborhood.

The original timeline says it started with the 7-11 robbery but then someone came out recently and said they didn't rob the store. The MIT cop shooting was soon after that. I haven't heard all the details but it sounds like they ambushed him rather than him recognizing them or catching them in some type of bomb planting act.

Report disturbance at MIT. MIT officer responds and got shot. speculation from the sheer amount of bombs they had on their person suggests they were planning on planting bombs around the city last night.

So he left the scene in a car then entered a building? How do they know he tripped the sensor?

What was odd was they seemed to not want to continue the search for him after they found the car and wanted to wait until morning or something. I found it really weird at the time. Perhaps because they had to go on people's property and ring doorbells and things and it was after 4:00 am. And then they seemed to be diverting some resources responding to other instances of people being put in cuffs as suspects when they were not the guy. It really seemed like... once they found the vehicle, they decided to wait until morning before conducting a serious search for him.
