for violating NFL substance abuse policy... not huge IDP ramifications (though i might have taken him in IDP draft currently in process), but a disappointment for rams fans... he was the steadiest & most physical STL CB in '06... tye hill will have to pick up the slack, & maybe ron bartell will begin the season as the other starting CB... without knowing the details, haslett is probably ticked off, as it was probably based on his recommendation that the rams signed him... there is already pressure on the defense to do better than last season, and i'm sure this is not how they wanted to start out training camp & the pre-season... STL also drafted CB wade in the third round, but more likely recent free agent acquisitions lenny walls &/or mike rumph would move up to CB2/CB3 depending on bartells readiness to start...

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Rams cornerback Fakhir Brown was suspended without pay for the first four games next season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league said Friday.
The statement announcing Brown's suspension did not specify the nature of the violation. Brown's agent, Ted Marchibroda, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Brown's suspension begins Aug. 31. He can return to the Rams' active roster on Oct. 1, following the team's Sept. 30 game against the Dallas Cowboys.
He also can participate in preseason games and practice.
Brown, 29, started in 14 games for the Rams last season. He tied for the team high with three interceptions and also had one sack. He missed two games with an ankle injury.
Brown signed a five-year deal as a free agent with the Rams in 2006, after spending his first four NFL seasons in New Orleans.
