Well, he'd have an immediate top 3 draft pick darling to start his regime off with. I don't think that there will be a lot of pressure on him to win a playoff game for a few seasons, just getting above .500 is a good short term goal. THey can worry about his playoff woes down the road.I gotta figure that Marty will have better offers than Atlanta coming up this off-season.
Dude's 64 years old.I could be wrong but I'm not inclined to believe that he wants to step in to the coaches seat for an organization that is in such disarray.Well, he'd have an immediate top 3 draft pick darling to start his regime off with. On the flip side, his biggest knock is not being able to do well in the playoffs which might turn off teams that are closer to being contenders. In a way, both the Falcons and Schotty are beggars and can't be too choosy. Blank needs to turn around his team and fill seats so I could see Marty getting a lot of power to go along with his job, and unlike Petrino he has tried and true NFL team building experience.Dude's 64 years old.I could be wrong but I'm not inclined to believe that he wants to step in to the coaches seat for an organization that is in such disarray.Well, he'd have an immediate top 3 draft pick darling to start his regime off with. Edit to add: But if the money is right.... just ask Parcells.
I am rooting for this nowATL is by no means barren. Hell, a lot of teams would give a right arm for their talent on D.Deangelo Hall, Michael Boley, John Abraham, Jamal AndersonATL being competitive is not the question by any means!Offensively, they need a few pieces, a mobile QB (NOT PENNINGTON) a real RB to go with Norwood and a possesion Wideout to go with Roddy and Laurent RobinsonI would be excited to get Shotty, its a fit. A guy who will be NFL ready and proven.I really dont see much talent in the division.TB could be well under .500 next season and NO has talent but are hard to figure out. With alittle magic they could take the division. I see them winning their division long before Miami does. Marty wins games in the regular season.
If it takes him 3 years to get the Falcons to .500, that would double the number of losing seasons he has in his entire career. I'd be surprised if it took him longer than 2 years. Schotty is a tremendously underrated coach.Marty got dealt out in San Deigo and wanted to keep coaching. IMO he'd take it.Good move for Atlanta and possibly better than Parcells deal. Media would be downplayed some. Marty would have instant respect walking in the door and would definitely get them to .500 ball in 3 years or less.

"I have not heard a word from anybody about anything relating to the Falcons," said Schottenheimer, who was fired by the Chargers in February after butting heads with club president Dean Spanos over the makeup of the coaching staff. "I really don't know much about the Falcons situation, other than what has gone on of late out there. Nobody should have to go through what they've gone through."
"I'm content with what I'm doing," he said by phone from his home outside Charlotte, N.C. "I really don't think I'm going to do it -- coach again. It's changed so dramatically (from) the way I was brought up in it, if you will. I would not rule it out, but ... I have not heard from the Falcons or anybody else. I've got four grandbabies and I'm having a ball with them. It would have to be a perfect fit for me to come back, and I don't know that there are any of those anymore."
Agreed. And he was treated even worse in WAS. Started off the year 0-5, then turned the team around and finished the rest of the season 8-3 and was promptly fired. It would be a perfect fit. I can't think of a better guy to build a solid foundation for any franchise that hasn't made the playoffs in years. He'll have the franchise at .500 in no more than two years and in the playoffs in no more that three years. I hope for his sake he gets a long contract. Fans won't even give HC's a single season to turn a bad franchise around. It's pretty crazy. Every coach deserves at least two years. Fans start complaining about new HC's before the season starts now. After the way the Chargers treated him, it would be hard not to root for Marty.
