Disagree. I have it on pretty good authority that he's struggling with injuries again. I would avoid him. Even if healthy, his ERA is going to be around 5. Pitching for a contender might net him 15 wins to go along with that 4.85 ERA (best case). Predicting more than 24 starts for him is a stretch too...
Kip Wells struck out seven while allowing two runs -- one earned -- in 6 1/3 innings against the Marlins on Thursday.Wells ends the spring with a 1.16 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings. :lmao: If he's hurt, I want what he has.
TANAC isn't talking out of his ### about this. There's substance there. If he's wrong, what have you lost? If he's right, you side-step grabbing damaged goods.
I already drafted him :banned:
Just because a guy is having issues doesn't mean something will come of it. But with his history, I'd consider looking trade while he's coming off the great start.
:banned: Pitching well and feeling well are two very different things. He's definitely a tough SOB, so it's possible he continues to perform while battling the issues...but I wouldn't bank on it. Guys who are 57-74 lifetime with a 4.5 ERA aren't tough to find. Guys who have an ERA that has gone from 3.3 to 4.5 to 5.1 to 5.6 to 6.5 while their health declines and their age increases aren't the guys I'll be drafting. If he was available on waivers I'd think about him as he'll be easy to replace...but I wouldn't waste a pick higher than about 275-300 on him.

Cool...PM sent

He was mentioned briefly earlier, but if you want a cheap pitcher who may end up outperforming the studs, look at David Bush in Milwaukee. His control is outstanding, and I could easily see him being their best pitcher this year. With better run support, he can win 15-18 easy, IMO.

OF- Shane Victorino Philly (potential to be 20-30 guy)

Chris B Jones Arizona (5 category possibility)

RP- Soloman Torres Pitt (good stuff and new closer)

Mike Gonzalez Atl (I think he take the job from Wittman be mid-year)\

SP- Mike Pelfry NYM (future #1 starter, possibly this years Verlander)

Adam Wainwright StL (he's got nasty stuff)

I'm a complete novice here. I posted this over at Rotoworld and got very limited response. I follow baseball, but don't have a good grasp on comparing the players across the various stats and positions and figuring out their relative values. I've tried to cram as much reading in as possible, but there are so many players and for every guru calling player X a sleeper, there's another saying stay away. Same as FF I suppose. I'm much better at football and hockey where I have some experience, but I helped a friend by taking the 12th spot in a 12 team H2H Yahoo league at the last minute. It was a Yahoo autodraft which prolly saved me from further embarassment. Here's the scoring/roster requirements:

Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, Util, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, BN, BN, DL, DL, DL

Stat Categories: R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, E, AVG, IP, W, L, CG, SV, K, ERA

Here is my team as it stands now:

Albert Pujols 1B

Grady Sizemore CF

Derek Jeter SS

Jake Peavy SP

Francisco Rodríguez RP

Bill Hall 3B,SS

Félix Hernández SP

Brett Myers SP

Corey Patterson CF

Jonathan Papelbon RP

Kenji Johjima C

Rich Harden SP

Brandon Phillips 2B

Eric Byrnes LF,CF,RF

Michael Cuddyer 1B,RF

Danys Báez RP

Nomar Garciaparra 1B

Curtis Granderson CF

Obviously the bench is pretty short, so there isn't much flexibility there. I have claimed Broxton (dropped Baez) and Teahen (dropped Nomar--can use Cuddyer if Pujols goes down) off waivers. I've read alot about Hall saying he is over rated and people are over paying for his "career year" last year, but he's only 28. There are a few other guys available: Martin ©, Upton (3B+), Kinsler (2B), Gordon (3B), but I'm not sure if they would be better options than what I already have. My team seems pretty balanced and my pitching looks pretty solid. Any advice on where to go from here or should I just wait and see? Is there a trade opp available? Maybe I could package Kenji and someone and get some more HR's and pick Martin off the WW? There is a guy in my league who got Wright and Cabrera, but got squat for C--Kenji and what would get one of them?

Thx!!!!

Hmm. At first blush, you've got some average killers. Hall, Patterson, Phillips, Byrnes, and Granderson could all be in the .260s. I love Rich Harden but he's an injury risk; might be a good sell high if he comes out strong. Gordon is going to be a sexy player for fantasy this year, I would roster him. In my opinion, with catchers like Martin on the wire, Kenji's trade value isn't too strong. The guy with Wright and Cabrera might just as well pick up Martin himself. Hope this helps.

Thanks!!! Who would you suggest dropping to roster Gordon? With such a small bench my options are pretty limited. I can't really drop Phillips unless Gordon is 2B eligible, Patterson is a big chunk of my SB's and Byrnes covers all the OF's. Maybe Granderson? I can't really see myself dropping Hall (a 35 HR guy) for a blue chip rookie on KC, but I am open to it.

I would drop Granderson for Gordon. Don't drop Hall; he'll be OF eligible in a couple of weeks, and I promise you there's someone in your league who values him more than you do.

I'd give Martin a chance. In a ten-team league, you have the benefit of very low penetration on catchers. I doubt many teams are going to carry two catchers long-term, and the teams with Mauer, McCann, Martinez, and Piazza probably won't ever bother to investigate other catchers. In the short-term, you could use the waiver wire to platoon tier 2 catchers with comparatively little risk. Filling your catcher at bats every day adds up.
Thx, I am hoping no one does; in fact I prefer to not make a waiver move now and "help" people discover (who haven't already) platooning for extra ABs (we played at Yahoo last year, which has batter limits)I hadn't seen Martin's spring numbers when I drafted; they're not good. My only "rush" is that one guy (who seemed to grab everyone I wanted during the draft) still needs a catcher - imagine he's waiting til last minute to decide who to drop. This is the first year I have had a "regular" catcher. The 1st two years I had Inge and then Willingham who both played everyday, so never worried about platooning.
LOL, well I was right; he took Paulino last night. At least, I can stop second-guessing now. :kicksrock:

Yeah, I heard he was going to the OF, so this is a good call. My pitching seems pretty strong now that JP is the closer in Beantown again, would it be plausible to seek out an OF bopper with a good average with Broxton and Harden if they get off to hot starts?

One more sleeper pick before Posty cries to the mods and i get whacked again...

Scott Hairston. I think Quentin's injury is more severe than we're lead to belive and I think Hairston plays his way into that lineup even after Quentin returns. Check out his OBP in the minors and tell me he's not ready to be a major league player. Had a 3 HR game yesterday too....though that was off Josh Fogg, so it really doesn't count.
Looking good today, Mrs. Sac. Nice call.

Ryan Madson- Will take over as the closer when Gordon's arm falls offJeff Baker- Will get more ABs as the season goes on especially if Helton gets traded.Shane Victorino- Gets a chance to play full-time and could be a 20HR and 20SB guyCorey Hart- like Victorino he gets he shot to play everyday and could produce 15+ HRs and SBsHunter Pence- If Burke continues to struggle Pence could get the call from AAAJosh Hamilton(hi Cappy)- Griffey and Freel are injuries waiting to happen. The beneficiary is Hamilton.Tony Pena- If Valverde struggles in Arizona, Pena becomes closer.Ronny Paulino- He's pounding the ball this spring and should be one of the few catchers to hit near .300There are more but those are a few that come to my head. The deep sleeper is Henry Owens. He will take over as closer in Florida when Julio meltsdown. Also, Termel Sledge is still going cheap and late in drafts. He's a great value for as late as he's going and I've paid $8-9 in two auctions for him.
Not perfect, but some pretty solid work here.
