Fantasy during NFL playoffs (1 Viewer)

For years we have done a "playoff challenge" : pick a roster of players from teams in the playoffs (duplicates are allowed) and the highest point total over the course of the playoffs wins. It is fun but I was thinking this year of maybe doing a draft or an auction instead.

I assume a lot of FBGs are doing this soI would like to hear your format and what you like/dislike about it.

Our postseason challenge:

Pick a roster of QB, 2RB, 3WR, TE, K, DST. You may pick only one player from a team (DST counts as a player). Total points scored through the SuperBowl wins. Simple to run, manage, and score.

2 QB, 4 RB, 4 WR/TE, 2 K and 2 Def/ST

You can have duplicate players across each roster, but once a player's team has been knocked out, you lose that player and can not replace him. Last man standing wins. We've had some very similar rosters over the past 14 years or so that we've been doing this, but never the same, and never had a tie. We usually have 12-15 people involved every year.

I just watch the games and actually enjoy them.
Quite possibly the best advice I've yet to see here.
So are you saying you don't watch and/or enjoy any games throughout the year just because fantasy football is going on? If that's the case, maybe you should stop playing FF so you can start enjoying football again. Because I hope for most us that enjoying games and having some type of playoff challenge going on aren't mutually exclusive. I think it even makes it a little more exciting? :goodposting:

This is similar to what we do. I was looking to see if anyone did a draft or auction. The best day of the year is our Fantasy Draft in September. I was thinking maybe we could reproduce that in a smaller scale by doing a draft of just playoff players.

Another format suggestion is to pick an oversized roster (2QB, 3RB, 4WR, 2TE, 2K, 2D) and you can pick anyone from any team. The twist is you can only change over your roster once during the playoffs.

Typically teams do best to switch after 2 weeks and shoot for the SB teams.

Anyone do this on My Fantasy League...I'm wondering what there options are?
This is my first year on MFL and I know they do offer free fantasy football during the NFL playoffs, but I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has actually used this feature. Do you have to clear everyone's rosters or is it completely separate from Regular season fantasy football?

It's completely separate from what I remember.

You can build it right off your existing league and it creates a new playoff league. You can keep your scoring system in place, the rosters (we don't keep the rosters since we redraft for the playoffs), etc. Very nice.

We do a 12-team snake draft with a roster of QB, RB, 3WR, TE, K, DST where you can only have one person/DST from each team. Only one RB because we feel 24 rostered RBs is too much in the playoffs, would be too much of a disadvantage to people stuck with backups. We've also had people in the past get screwed and have no kicker because they couldn't take any of the kickers that were left (they rostered other players from those teams). Makes for great laughs. Definitely a strategy involved in that sense.Total points after Super Bowl wins. Same scoring system we use during the season. MFL is great with this as you can build your playoff league right from your regular season league.

two things

In my main league we re-draft full rosters from the 12 playoffs teams in reverse order of regular season finish, so whomever is least gets the #1 pick - odds are Tom Brady this season

Also between all me leagues I run a pool that consists of 1 player from each of the 12 playoff teams consisting of 2qb,3rd,4wr, 1te,1k,1d.

10 team redraft

For week 17 we do a Pro Bowl -

The divisonal playoff (week 15) loosers serve as coordinators for their respective divisions. We double the starters to 2QB, 4RB, 4RB, 2TE, and 2PK and use a mixed roster of players from each division.

Loosing owners pitch in for the beer and snacks for next years draft.

I've been doing a Playoff league with a draft b/c as you said, the draft is my favorite part of the whole season too.For this league, I just add up the total number of "draftable fantasy players" from the 12 NFL teams. Don't forget about the 3rd WRs, some Fullbacks, & some 2nd TEs are draftable based on the team they play for if you want a deep draft. Then, take the above figure and divide it by the number of owners that are going to participate to get the # of rounds. The beauty of this type of league is that you don't have to have an even number of owners. Also, I usually invite 1 or 2 people not in our normal league as it is a great way recruit new blood in case there is an opening in next yr's regular season league. Our rules are simple:Serpentine draft..............you can select anyone you want.....no restrictions. No starting lineup............your roster accumulates points until the end of the Superbowl.....No drop/add.Pay out the top 2 or 3.If you want to select 12 kickers.....go for it. However, I'm sure the other owners will have a say in that. The beauty of this league is that I've seen people with very different draft strategies......which makes it more fun IMO than just filling out a piece of paper where you never see the other participants.

We do the same thing you are talking about, except points are doubled in the Super Bowl. Each team drafts the following -2 qb, 5 rb, 5 wr, 2 k, 4 dl, 5 lb, 5 db. Players score points until their team is eliminated. Highest total points at the end wins.

Are all of these crazy options supported by MFL?
I would think so. I think you can set them up for free even if you don't run a regular league on there now, so give it a test drive. As far as the leagues where you just pick X amount of players (people can pick the same players), I'm pretty sure that works too since my 24 man league on there can have each player on two teams (in different conferences though).

6 team draft. Pick 2 QB, 4 RB, 6 WR, 2 TE, 2 K, and 2 D. No duplicates, so basically all players get drafted, with the exception of a few RBs and WRs. Total points throughout the playoffs - no head to head.

First time around, I missed this about possibly doing an auction............Interesting!Since my league has shot Auction down every time I've proposed it for our regular season league, I may just think about trying an auction for the playoffs in the hopes they soften their stance the next time I propose it. At least everyone would have the same shot at Tom Brady.......and it would be interesting to see how much $$ he went for.

What cap would you use?.....I'm guessing $100 would work.

Any other auction rules/issues to consider?

Anyone do contest style where you pick a different line-up each week? I see you can customize it on MFL so that you can start each player a certain # of times. I'm trying to get some of my friends interested but I'm trying to figure out an easy yet still have rules that involve some strategy. Any contest style leagues out there...and if so are they fun?

Ufflcommish runs a great one:

9. Any dispute or decision will be handled soley by the UFFL Commissioner.

10. The UFFL leagues are all about fair and fun play for all owners. Trash talking is fine as it is a part of the game, but it should be limited to the players playing for the owners and not disrespect for the league and its owners. Vulgarity and predigests is not allowed and can cause banishment from the league. Please respect others and treat them with the respect you would want

I've been running a suicide pool for a few years now. Once you pick a player, he can't be picked again. Each week you have to field a starting lineup. So not only do you have to pick the best player, but also have to factor in him moving on to the next round.

I'm in about 4 leagues, so I just run this one pool on MFL for all of them and then invite any FBG'ers to join as well. MFL has a setup feature that once you pick your player, it will not allow you to pick that player again for the rest of the year. Very similar to the NBC Rotoworld challenge, but we had it first ;-).

Here's the link and you can read more about it:

I guess it's a shameless plug for the league too this way....lol

In the league we run locally it goes like this:

for every 6 owners in the league you can draft each player once.

Last year we had 18 owners so there were 3 Mannings, Bradys, etc.

Anyway, draft order is selected at the draft and we then go serpentine through until each owner has filled his roster out:

2QB, 4RB, 4WR, 2TE, 2K, 2D/ST

Each players points count as long as they are in the playoffs. Once your player is eliminated that players points are done (obviously).

It's pretty cool. If you can figure out who will be in the Super Bowl and which teams will win road games you have a huge edge. Also, if you can grab the player(s) that will blow up for a 3 or 4 TD games in the early games you put some pressure on the guys who didn't draft very many wild card players.

Anyway, last year I had a total of 8 Bears/Colts and won it easily. By over 100 points. I set the record of our league (3 years) for most points scored. The year before I set the record for fewest points as all my players were eliminated by the 2nd round of the playoffs, lol.

Can't wait 'til next Friday for our draft.

If you're in the Milwaukee, WI area send me a PM if you would like to get in. It looks like we need 3-4 more guys.
