Fantasy Football Index is out (1 Viewer)

I brought that Tatum Bell issue to work with me and used it as propoganda to trade Bell for a first round pick and a 14th round pick in one of my keeper leagues. I told him, "Look, he's on the cover. You don't just put anyone on the cover unless they're gonna breakout." He bought it hook, line and sinker and I won my league that year. I never thanked FFI for that.
 You like ripping people off?
Any chance I get. I don't have a Bengals icon for nothing. :lmao:

It's always a good read. My friend purchased the NFL published mag a few weeks ago, if you've seen it, there really isn't much to be said.

Ok, not sure what I'm missing here. I ordered the magazine for the first time (I've never even flipped thru one at Barnes & Noble) based on this post. I just don't get the hype. Flipping through it I get the impression that it's a decent rag, but there's nothing eye opening in it. Not that I care but the cheatsheets seem a little mysterious, the PPR one is more worried about starts rather than receptions. You have to reverse engineer their FPG average x starts - ypg - TD's/gm to get their reception projection. I noticed quirks like that with their yardage & TD only cheatsheets as well. I really don't care but let's face it, 90% of the people buying this or any other magazine for anything other than bathroom material (and there are quite a few of them) are basically clueless. The rest of the magazine while good, didn't have me saying to myself that this was any better than footballguys rag.

I don't know, on the whole it's a good magazine, I mean there is so much crap out there. I think I was a little disappointed because I have been reading for about 5 years now how this is "the coup de grace of fantasy football magazines!." I feel let down a little, but I'll get over it

I picked up my copy at a newstand today.

It was a Wegman's grocery store if you happen to have them in your North East area.

:lmao:

I am glad FBG decided to their "magazine" online this year. This industry is always changing, and up to the minute news and injury info is needed to win you league now. I wouldn't be surprised to see fantasy mags die down very soon

Like many others have stated, bathroom material.....

It was the first mag I bought about 12 years ago with Bledsoe on the cover and it did me alright...I did notice over time though that I mysteriously started having a lot of Seahawks on my roster (the year I bought it was when Moon went off for like 27 TDs as my backup so that was good), but I found myself with James Mckinght, and a couple of others who underwhelmed (one guy was a WR I think from GB originally who had one good half of the season and they had him ranked #8 in redraft the following year and he bombed). I then noticed the mag is published out of Seattle, so it eventually made sense.

I stopped buying it about 5 years back when I became a FBG disciple. I still buy a magazine or two for the "office", but I have to admit, I kind of like ESPN's mag. There is a lot of trash in it, but they go very deep in the number of players they analyze (i.e. many mags stop at 60 WRs and they go to like 110 or so. Also, as FF has hit main stream, the "corporate" guys are getting better with analysis. Now most of it I can get from FBG website, but as far as print mags go, I like the extra steps they take. In their team Defense section (they also have IDP), they have a blurb on each team which CB you want to avoid/expolit going into the season. It is not just the obvious stuff either. For example if a team has a Pro Bowl CB, it is not just like "go after the other guy". They detail the amount of big plays the weaker guy gives up, etc. Again, I can get all of what I want (and more) from FBG, but it is a pretty extensive mag...you just have to sift through stuff like their mock drafts, etc.

ETA: I am curious whether they have Housh and/or Hass as top 10 in their respective positions in Fantasy Index...my guess would be yes.

Mine arrived over a week ago

Been buying it forever. Their analysis was cutting edge back in the day before internet immediate access. I still greatly enjoy reading and most of the guys in my league read it, so I get an idea of who they'll be looking at.

I ordered mine online in June, and it still hasn't arrived. Usually it gets here by July 1st....
i ordered mine online tuesday- i called and talk to the guy at the number listed online......he confirmed the order and stated he would get the mag out to me that night.......it was coming 1st class mail from washington and i didn't expect it until monday with the holiday because i live in alabama.....it was in my mailbox thursday afternoon...awesome service i was really impressed with the time of delivery........ inc0gneto- i would give them a call tomorrow at (206-527-4444) and see if your order got lost in the shuffle- you should have had it days before mine.....

Thanks for the tip. I am in Canada, so I will give it another week before I call.

i buy this out of tradition. i have been playing long enough that I dont even need mags anymore. my excel files and spreadsheets are updated througout the year.

before technology ruined FF, it was the mag to get. the internet updates are key too

I purchased Rotoworld's FF mag last week..it was rife with typos, stats mentioning the wrong season(s) - often times they mentioned things like "Chris Johnson hadone of the highest YPC averages in the NFL in 2007"..

I mean, it was poorly written...like a 5th grader wrote it..

some of the info was good, and I can understand a lack of proof-reading here and there, but it was so over the top it makes you wonder if anyone at Rotoworld even glanced at the mag before it hit the stands...

FF Index is the top of the line magazine, they don't use cookie-cutter rankings, they actually take some chances...

Tatum Bell notwithstanding ;-)

their analysis is top-notch..they don't sugar coat things just to sell mags...

the problem is that everyone is now reading FF Index, so any real advantage we readers had in the past, is surely gone..

Love FFI. I think many miss the point on FF magazines when they say they're date and shouldn't be used for information. I agree, but that's not the point. I buy FFI because its a good read and because it has solid analysis. The statistical analysis is worth the cost alone.

Its out on newstands. I picked my copy up at a Barnes and Noble two days ago. (July 5th)

Had never heard of FFI before this year. Just picked it up and was impressed. Very much appreciated the mock auction. I also like how they back up their assertions up with player, team AND NFL stats instead of just bombarding you with numbers or opinions.

That said, FBG is still my girlfriend.

This magazine is without a doubt the greatest bathroom reading material ever, especially right before drafts.
Agree. I've had a copy of FFI sitting by my throne for 15 years now. Seriously. I may have the 1994 issue underneath my restroom sink.
Heh, my first copy was Fantasy Football 90 :) They didn't start calling it Fantasy Football Index until a couple years later. It is a staple of the industry and while its format hasn't really changed much in the last few years, it is always well written and interesting, even if I don't always agree with their take. It is a good barometer of where some of your league mates are at. I usually do 1 internet update from them as well as the compactness is a plus. All of this said, the FBG tools are my main source of my projections and research. But I still buy the mag that really is the granddaddy and started it all. I'll have to see what the earliest one is I can find hiding in my abode. Chances are I have the last 20 of 'em (and they are probably is 20 different places in my apartment).Btw, ya ever notice how there are 2 NFL team nicknames that NEVER appear in that magazine? :) -QG

Chiefs and Redskins....I guess they are not big fans of the Native American angle.

Got mine today. One of my favorite days of the year. :goodposting:

There were no HUGE surprises (like with Tatum Bell), but I'll say this.... they really believe in Finley!

It's easily my favorite ff mag, too. I do have one gripe, though. I HATE how they do their mock draft/auction. No one I know plays that format (no transactions, "best ball"). I know they want a way to evaluate the drafts, but it really does make them draft much differently than they would under the kind of format most of us use. So it's interesting, but mostly useless for the reader.

I found Matt Ryan ranked ahead of Aaron Rodgers in their "keeper" rankings to be a bit surprising...

They are REALLY high on Stephen Jackson this year.
I am guessing you are being sarcastic on this one as they have him as the 13th ranked RB...basically I dug this post up as I just purchased it today and while I did not see any outlandish reaches, Jackson's low ranking intrigued me...as did the #9 WR ranking for Fitz. Oddly, they tried to spin him as being a "guarded prima donna" in their write-up which also struck me as odd. They seem to be hitching their wagon to the fact that AZ wil be a run-first team because that is what Wizzy is used to, but Beanie is their 15th RB and we all have been around the block enough to see that many times, coaches run with what they have got (see Billick in Balt after being a "high-flying" OC in Minny). I have no problem with the rankings as i could easily see one of the two coming true...just which one will be interesting to find out.

they carlify that as being due to the 50 sacks last season and the pounding Rogers seems to take with his mobility, betting that he's hurt at some point..They love Finley thats for sure, and they seemed somewhat down on Dallas Clark - i.e., there's nowhere his stats can go but down after his record-setting 2009 season - and he's also an injury waiting to happen..they moved Sjax down to 13th because if I'm correct, they ranked him as a top 5 RB last season.oof.. great mag this year, as always!

I'm not inspired enough to post the results of the auction he was in.

:excited: Picked up my FF Index at the newsstand today. They have Mathews at #7 RB and Richardson at #4. I think that's backwards.Still have to dive into it more.
Redraft rank? Even if it is I see it, once week six rolls around and Mathews is hurting it should make a world of sense.
Yes, redraft. I figure Mathews is gonna stay healthy one of these years.

Same thing was being said of Stafford last year....if only he could stay healthy. Matthews still finished as RB7 from what I recall. This is also right about where his ADP is. 1.07 seems about right
