There is always talk in these forums about how their team has scored the most points in the league (or close to it), yet they are struggling to make the playoffs because they play against huge scores every week. I play in a league that for years has used a performance-based system in addition to H2H matchups, and we love it.
We get X number of points for a win in our H2H game (0 for a loss, half of a win each for a tie). In addition, the top scoring team gets X number of points, the 2nd highest scoring team gets a little less, and so on until you reach the team with the low score of the week. The extra points don't make up for a loss, but it's a great way to differentiate between someone whose team lost 200-to-180, and someone whose team lost 120-to-100. The high scoring teams always end up making the playoffs in this format, which is how it's supposed to be, IMO. There is a team right now in my league that is 7-and-4, and is leading the rankings over a team that is 9-and-2.
Anyone else do something like this? We are an IDP league, too, so we rank total offense and total defense separately.
