Raiders | Fargas expected to start for remainder of season

Mon, 5 Nov 2007 12:45:33 -0800

Steve Corkran, of The Mercury News, reports Oakland Raiders RB Justin Fargas is expected to start for the remainder of the season until further notice.

Picked him up last week because of a thread here in the SP & started him when Gore was announced as a no go.

Nice to have a teams starting RB for however long it lasts at no real cost.

Yeah, I grabbed him and stashed him. Didn't start him over T. Henry, but I needed another RB. Thank you Lawfitz....

I actually drafted this guy with my last pick in a 14 team redraft and just kept him stashed away for I don't know what reason and now he's finally starting to put something good together. I also stashed away Hackett and now hopefully he can come through for me as the season ends and I make a push through the playoffs.

Yep, Lawfitz is the guy started the thread which gave me the heads up to grab good old Fartgas.

So where does Fargas rank going forward. Is he a top 15-20 fantasy back the rest of the way?
That all depends on if you are talking about the bottom of the list. There is no way the Raiders put up enough pts for this guy to be considered starting. He is one of those Im in a bad jam and need a quick fix type of player. He is a full-time starter and that is his best value.

Why wouldnt he be worth starting? The Raiders are #4 in rushing offense this year and have 32 attempts/game. If that keeps up you're looking at Clinton Portis type numbers or better. That's at least a top-10 back.In what world is that not a starter?

In a world where their remaining schedule consists of:ChicagoMinnesotaKansas CityDenverGreen BayIndianapolisJacksonvilleBye week starter.... maybe but I certainly would not feel good starting him unless I had no other option.

Minn and GB are the only teams on that list not giving up more than 100 yards per game rushing. Chi and Den should be good games for Fargas or whoever is running the ball. Jax, KC and Indy are giving up about 106 yards rushing per game. Den, Jax and Chi are in the lower half of td's allowed. And Oakland can't pass so they'll run, run and run some more. SD (wk 17) is also in the lower half in both rushing yards and td's allowed. Fargas may not get a lot of td's but as long as he gets the majority of touches he'll average 100yds+ total per game. I'll take it.
