Favorite and least favorite kids shows (1 Viewer)

START EM

- Huge fan of Sesame Street. Doesn't feel like I'm starting my day right without an episode. Pretty psyched when there's an episode I haven't seen before.

- Super Why is awesome because my kid loves it and she's learned a ton from it. She's rocking her letters at 18 months. It's also not too painful to sit through.

- Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Very solid. I give it an 8: best children's television show in a certain time block, but not tops nationally.

SIT EM

- Sid the Science Kid is grating. The "humor" is awful, and these kids are such tools. Terribly written, brutal dialogue, and the songs make me want to punch kids in the face.

- Somewhat of a fan myself of Curious George myself, mostly for nostalgic reasons, but my kid hates it, so we don't watch it.

WILD CARDS

- Glad my kid doesn't like Barney; I don't think I'd be able to handle this.

- Couple friends I grew up with swear by Yo Gabba Gabba, but they're not very bright and their kids are following suit. They claim this is kid crack. Glad mine hasn't been exposed yet.

Any important ones I'm missing here?

Totally agree on Sid - he's the only incontrovertable veto with the 4yo i mind 3x/wk. Hate the Kratts almost as much, but the little guy loves em, so that's our trade, Sid for Kratts. Calliou is the show most likely to help your child end up a whiny, entitled #### and, much as i buy into the Fred Rogers ethic, his posthumous doppelganger, Daniel Tiger, is repulsive & just plain wrong. Don't like any of the live, competition type shows like Ruff Ruffman cuz theyre all wrapped up in the nobody-loses gestalt which i think is ruinous. Have loved non-verbal shows since the gloriously-trippy Boohbah and the pantomime morals of Pocoyo is currently my runaway favorite. Besides Spongebob, that is - simply the greatest child's show of all time & i been watching em for almost 60 yrs.

Sponge bob is terrible. Cat in the Hat has really gotten annoying, along with Caillou.

I like Curious George, Super Why, and I love me some sprout in the evening with Nina.

Wife is really against Max and Ruby. The whole plot is Max doing whatever he wants, directly against what he was told. It's like the writers are personally trying to ruin her kids she hates it so much.

The Regular Show = $

But your yours is a bit too young for it. Plus it might appeal more to boys I'd think.

Zero educational quality... But it's hilarious.

Wonder Pets is my favorite.

Sesame Street is classic.

Super Why is pretty good.

Caillou is a whiny #### but my son is crazy about that show.

Nina rules. .. gorgeous hostess ... my daughter really loves Kipper and the Pajanimals from the Goodnight Show

OK: Super Why, Word Girl, Thomas the Train, Bob the Builder, Martha Speaks, Mickey Mouse Club

Bad: Lazy Town (wtf?), Sid the Science Kid, Electric Company, Sponge Bob, Barney

Super why would have been higher until this song:

vocabulary vocabulary

how many words do you know?

with the power to read and learn new words,

here we go!

(So far, the songs not bad)

What word is this (CLEVER!)

listen to me

cee ell eeeeee vee eeee..... arrrrrr

(Ok, you guys are writing the song. You can pick any word you want. Why not pick one that rhymes with your lyrics or change your lyrics to rhyme with the r?)

What does it mean?

listen to me (again?)

Clever is to figure things out (no it isn't, clever is not a verb. I guess its the ability to figure things out)

and be a super smarty.... (ok so aside from this being a stupid definition, super smarty doesn't rhyme with listen to me, or the r in c l e v e r, or anything else for that matter)

My girls love the pig shows on Nick Jr.....Olivia and Peppa Pig. Olivia is solid, Peppa Pig is a rough watch.

Doc McStuffins is top draw in my house though. It's watchable.

Solid list here.

Super Hero Squad and Curious George getting mad run these days with a 2.5 and 1 yr old.

Caliou is good to knockout the older one in the afternoon so it is practical and not total brain mush material.

Lil one would prefer 24 hr Wiggles.

Super Why is better than most.

Second on loving Pocoyo. We also do a lot of Octonauts here.

Fresh Beat Band is awful even though new Marina has great boobs.

JR never really bought into the Yo Gabba Gabba craze.

Faves -

Finius and Ferb is fantastic television

Always a fan of Jimmy Neutron

:goodposting: You know who else like the Regular Show? My Mom! The whole family watches Regular Show. Everything else listed here is for the toddler crowd.

If "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" is on my 21 month old will sit and watch the whole episode, any other show he's all over the place like a bat out of hell.

If I'm forced to watch one Phineas and Ferb would probably be my choice. I probably would have liked that show a lot when I was a kid

Choo Choo Soul lady is pretty hot

Yea. This gets old real quick.
On PBS kids here in the City; Arthur comes on at 7, followed by Martha Speaks. Gotta say, Martha's voice is horrific. The only episode I could stomach was the one where the miserly old bat who owned the soup company scaled back on lettets in the alphabet soup .... ergo rendering Martha MUTE. :pickle: Arthur is pretty decent. My kid loves the character DW. Bearable enough to sit through. So now, immediately after Arthur, we switch to the DVR'd Goodnight Show on Sprout.

Our kid is mostly on Dora the Explorer and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse right now. I'm with Oats on MMC, it's very solid. Also digs Pocoyo, Yo Gabba Gabba, Wonder Pets, and Sesame Street.

Caillou is seriously awful, from a behavioral standpoint. Kids seem to love it, but one of my main regrets as a parent is letting her see it at all. We phased it out, and life has been better since.

Good:

Phineas and Ferb

Marvel shows on Disney Sunday nights

OK:

Gravity Falls

Good Luck Charlie

Ant Farm

My Babysitter's a Vampire

Garbage:

Shake It Up

Calliou

Austin and Allie

The new Disney show with the talking dog

My kids are big into the Fresh beat band. The show is campy and cheesy but at least they get some positive messaging in there unlike some other crap. As someone said, Maxx and Ruby is a no-go at our place. Maxx is a first class brat and needs a beating.

Also digging Jake, MM clubhouse and Umizoomi.

Back to the Fresh Beats, I can say that I dig them too. It's good to have some easy family music to put on with the kids in the car. We went to their concert and got to meet them afterward and they seem pretty genuine. Gave my kids some quality time and listend to my daughter ramble on.

And marina is hot, so that helps.

Do yourself a favor and throw on dinosaur train. Of all the shows we have gone through over the years by far the best. Kids love it and Ive actually learned quite a bit about dinosaurs. :bag:

I have friends who bragged about how their child could watch this entire movie/show. The child is now heavily medicated due to adhd and other issues. TV is ok for kids in dribs and drabs. But in my experience they'd rather you take them outside and show them what a shadow is, how a tree grows etc.

it aint easy but it's the most important job you'll ever have

Are you suggesting that the tv exposure cause the ADHD?

Agree, Regular Show is flat out funny. Adventure Time is another one both my 8 and 4yo girls enjoy but no way they get half the jokes.

I suggest spending quality time with your kids is more difficult, but more beneficial than putting them in front of a TV.

Has it occurred to you that people can do both? Kids have a lot of hours in the day. It's not like they have to go to work.

Do other kids see the dinosaurs in DinoDan? Some one help that kid. But its good to see the Kids in the Hall getting some work.

And Mike the Knight...Dad needs to get back from the Crusades or wherever the f he is and straighten that kid out.

Most of the good ones have been mentioned, especially Mickey. I love Pocoyo more than my 2 year old.

Even though I'm only 4

I'm already an attention whore

I'm Caliou
Nice. I'm not big on the show, & occasionally sing this when it comes on to annoy the wife:I'm just a budget kid,

With a great big bald head,

And I'm Canadian,

I'm Caillou!

I realize he's Canadian; but WTF is up with the chrome dome shtick on a four year old?
It's not like Chuck Brown had a full head of hair and he's like twice that kids age.
I intially thought Caillou was special or sick, & had no hair to teach kids that being different is ok. Then I realized that he's pretty healthy, has no developmental issues, & is kind of whiny. Dad & Mom both have mops for hair. So I did a google search for "Why is Caillou bald?", and evidently this is a popular question. Here's the publisher's answer:

Caillou stands for all children. He doesn’t have curly blond hair, a carrot-top, brown hair, glasses, or ethnic features, because he represents all children. We wanted to make Caillou universal so every child could identify with him. And they do! Caillou’s baldness may make him different, but we hope it’s helping children understand that being different isn’t just okay, it’s normal.
Now I can sleep tonight.

My assistant's husband thought it was about a cancer survivor.
