favorite 'techno' song... or (1 Viewer)

Great thread. Big trance fan here. I have a few that I still listen to frequently. You'll have to remember that I haven't been into the techno scene in over 5 years so these are all older. I'm definitely looking for some good new stuff though.

Dreaming-Ruff Driverz

Veracocha-Carte Blanche

ATB-9pm till i come

Crystal Method-High Roller

DJ Santana(kromozome project)-Take my love

Oakenfold-Freefall

Tiesto-Supernova

Silence-Delerium

The silence remix was already posted once but this was a classic. Great song. Never forget the first time I heard it.
:goodposting: The first time I heard Silence, I ran home and started downloading songs just hoping to find it (I had no idea who Tiesto was at the time). I was amazed that it was Sarah McLaughlan. Still one of my faves.

I've been out of the scene for about the same amount of time, so my trance listening is mostly relegated to the computer these days. I would also check out anything by Markus Schulz. He's out of Miami and does some really good mixes along the lines of Tiesto and Van Buuren.

Speaking of Armin Van Buuren, if you like female vocals, check out "Shivers". Another good tune I've dug lately has been "A Pain That I'm Used To" by Depeche Mode (Jacque LuCont mix).

Love the lyrics to the new track from Crystal Method, "smoked."

“There ain’t no bottle of Vicodin or Endocet or any of them pills you Midwestern #####es like to take that’s gonna help save you from your life! I’m talking to you Miss Minivan!”

Layo and Bushwacka!'s new album is good, but their essential mix is AMAZING. You can get it off of BBC but the quality is terrible. If you have file share, grab it from there. Its one of the best mixes I've ever heard.

I don't know about you guys, but I like more of the trance stuff type. Especially the ones with female vocals. Such as:

4 Strings

Andain - Beautiful Things

Ferry Corsten - It's Time

Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes

Right up my alley, bro. All great songs there.

Did every other techno album thread get pruned? Bummer

DJ Icey presents Y4K is something worth checking out. Very good breakbeat.

Just got back from Global Dance Festival in Denver. Armin Van Buren headlined. BT and Dieselboy also played. Great stuff.

Yeah, I heard a few of those, but not all of them. I'll definitely check them out. Thanks.

Just picked up the new Fabriclive #30 disk by Stanton Warriors. Very solid.
Adam Freelands Fabric #16 is really good but a bit old now a days.Great new album out now is Home Sweet Home by Santos. Very different than a lot of the singles they've released in the past.

Not completely sure if this fits into this catagory, but I was recently introduced to "Thievery Corporation"... has a bit more of a funk/raggae/electronica vibe to it... very nice. Check out these two tracks to see if you like them...- Warning Shots- Lebanese Blonde

 Big fan of all those mentioned above... kinda burned out on the whole genre due to listening to nothing but that for several years. It does make great music to work to, IMO- or background for a more mellow party/dinner-party.I grew up with the "old" school techno, with Kraftwerk at the top of the list- even got to see them live for the Computer World tour (in Europe) which was great (was it live, or was it memorex?). But I continued being into it during the early ambient time: Orb (Adventures beyond- amazing), Orbital, FSOL, etc.

Anybody else remember DAF (Deutche Americaniche Freundschaft... mangled spelling)? Der Mussolini http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RHObNbrFs8 - loved it.

I downloaded a bunch of trance/dance songs earlier this year for workout tunes. Since then I've burned it to CD's for my car and it dominates my ipod. It's the only music I can listen to over and over and the wear is verrrrry slow.

My favorites:

Delerium - Silence

DJ Tiesto - adagio for strings

Jones Stephenson - First Rebirth

Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes

Cygnus X - The Orange Theme

Moby - Go

Paul van Dyk - Another Way

Cygnus X - Superstring

Felix - Dont you want me

Paul van Dijk - For an Angel

Ricky Fobis - No regular

DJ Tiesto - In My Memory

Benjamin Bates - Thin_Time

Mauro Picotto - Komodo

DJ Jurgen - Better Of Alone

Robert Miles - Fable

IIO - Rapture

Kylie - Can't get you out of my head

Delerium - Innocente

The Beloved - Sweet Harmony

Brooklyn Bounce - Club Bizarrr

Love the lyrics to the new track from Crystal Method, "smoked."

“There ain’t no bottle of Vicodin or Endocet or any of them pills you Midwestern #####es like to take that’s gonna help save you from your life! I’m talking to you Miss Minivan!”
That quote in your sig currently (every compartment of your mind) - I've heard it in a number of techno mixes. Where does it originally come from?

Where should I start downloading techno?

I have some basics on my computer....the Oakenfold Essential Mixes which are all really good, some other Oakenfold albums, some Aphex Twin albums, some Royksopp, and then other electronica music which isn't really techno (Depeche Mode, for example).

I love what I've heard in the bands mentioned above, but I want to get more into the techno/house/ambient scene.....where should I start? Who should I check out?

Edit - I've heard of some of the bands you guys have mentioned in this thread like Tiesto and Chemical Brothers, but I've never really listened to any of their music, other than "Galvanize".....

I check out Beatport somewhat frequently for new tunes. They have very long samples of every song available on their site, and there are a TON of songs, divided into many genres. They also have a ton of "charts" from various people, and sometimes you can find particular people that share your tastes in music and just watch for their lists in the future. Legally you can dload songs there from anywhere between a dollar (I think) and $2.50 a song if you want to go that route. This site is a really good guide to hundreds of different genres, what makes them unique, and most with samples to show you what they sound like.

ETA: Ok, maybe not HUNDREDS but dozens, and it has been a long time since i've been on it and it sounds a little outdated, but the principle is the same.
