Favre / Bus Cook (1 Viewer)

Curious what others think about this possiblity. At first I couldn't figure out why Favre wouldn't report to camp when it begins and force the Packers hand by the ensuing circus. If Favre requests reinstatement the day before the season begins it would seem the Pack would have to cut him. Surely they wouldn't be willing to pay him a guaranteed $12 million at that time. Then he could sign with any team (Vikings) and take a few weeks to get up to speed before stepping in.

Everything in his football life has been familiar for a long time. People sure seem to expect him to adapt to new surroundings very quickly

IMO...the Packers would gladly pay him $12 mil to not see him on Monday night during the opening week of the season when they had planned to retire his jersey.

Not saying he would have a different playbook down pat early in the season, but by mid season I think he would be firing on all cylinders. Have to think he would be a nice upgrade at QB for the Vikes even early on before he has such a good feel for the personnel and playbook. And in that division the Vikes would be a big favorite in my mind with Favre coming on board. They could likely afford to lose a few early games and still take the division.

Favre could just retire again if the Pack called his bluff and put him on the roster as the back up. I just can't see them paying $12 million for a backup QB. There is also no way they want Aaron to have that kind of pressure with Favre looking over his shoulder. By then they might lock up some players long term and not even have that much cap space available.

Seriously man...there is no chance they let him just go to Minnesota...its not happening. You want fans really to hate Ted Thompson...if Favre comes into GB on opening night wearing the purple and yellow...Thompson will be lynched. The fans will kill him...and then go to work on him. They have something like 24 mil even if he is on the roster. I think they will be fine.

What is to stop a team from trading for Favre, lets say giving up a 2nd, and then flipping him to Minnesota for a 2nd? Happens all the time in baseball.

Potentially, the tampering charge could if found to be true. I read that if it holds up the NFL could bar Favre from being put on the Vikings roster for a season, don't know if that's official.

NE had no problem trading Bledsoe within the division for a first round pick. I think the "Thompson won't trade Favre within the division because GB might lose a couple of games to him and it's OK with me" sentiment to be ridiculous. The fact is when NE made the Bledsoe trade he had a hell of a lot more upside than Favre has now. The Pats didn't let fan perception cloud their judgement and made the best out of a bad situation. If the GB Brass pays him 12 Mil a year to bench it they should be lynched. It's chicken####.

IF Brett wants to play this year, he must report to camp. He needs to put the pressure back on TT to make a decision if getting released is his goal. He will not end up being benched. I think Rodgers career probably would be over with that kind of scrutiny in his first chance. Bad enough to follow a legend but to have him sitting there waiting would be a tremondous amount of pressure. But for all of this to happen, Brett must be in camp. Not getting there, keeps Thompson in full control.

Can you imagine how a Packer fan is going to feel, after 1st pre-season game and Rodgers struggles somewhat out of the gate and Brett comes in and lights it up vs 2nd stringers. And the possibility is not even remotely out of the question. The competition will be over at this point and Thompson/McCarthy have to name Brett the starter almost. The bench part to me was just an idle threat to the release part.

I think any Packers fan with an IQ exceeding 80 knows Favre is to blame for this mess...not Thompson. I think Favre would be lynched before Thompson if he plays for any team other than GB. Heck, Favre took the first shot with asking to be released.

:lmao: Do you have an idea on big Brett Favre is in Green Bay and the state of WI? The guy is a legend and comparing his situation to Drew Bledsoe leaving the Pats is an absolute joke. 12 million is a bargain compared to the cost of therapy and suicide prevention if Favre were to end up in purple.

Bledsoe is not nearly half the icon that Favre has become.Speaking for myself and several other fans I have talked to...we would gladly pay Favre 12 mil to be a backup (and look, he will not be the backup either...Thompson has yet to be quoted as saying that...for some reason it kept getting play even after TT said it was not accurate). But I would gladly have him make 12 mil sitting on his ### for the Packers than to have the chance to see #4 in purple and yellow lifting the Lombardi. Its not just fan perception...its smart football business...Bledsoe went to a bad team (they were 3-13 the year before getting Bledsoe)...Minny is GB's major competition for the division this year and a possible SB contender if their QB situation was better.

I don't think most fans at this point really care if he goes to a few different teams...Minny is a different beast though...if Thompson lets him go there...he would be destroyed.

Family lives in Wisky and Minnesota, all Packer fans, and all they say and have heard is they are sick of it and would gladly let him go to the Vikings to end the drama. Haven't come across anyone not on this board that is a Packer fan that really cares whether or not he goes to the Vikings anymore, people just want to be done with it. Most the people I know are Eastern Minny and Western Wisconsin so maybe the feeling is different in other parts of the state but from what I gather from people in that area, it is a pretty solid 'Just get it over with' and no one really cares if Minny is the exception to the rule or not. Favre just doesn't seem to be the larger than life legend that he was thought of all those years since it has taken less than a month for people to totally want to wash their hands of him and don't care where or if he plays.

Yesterday's sirloin is today's chopped liver. Though, from some of the attitudes I've seen now that he wants to move on to the purple & gold people have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. The real fears that former Favre fans have that he could win as many championships in one year with the Vikings as he had in his entire career with the Packers is entertaining because they are making no attempts at covering it up. In reality, it really shouldn't matter because moving on, even if he winds up with Minnesota, and even IF, and it's a big if, they win a championship, it says little about the Green Bay Packers themselves. If they want to move on, they should just do it without fear that it might mean short term success for another franchise, because they need to think long term for theirs. There is a very real risk of the Packers having to deal with more Quarterback controversy for the next several years if Rodgers falters early or decides not to resign when his contract is up.

I'd take it one step further back - Favre took the first shot LAST YEAR when he demanded to be traded after Thompson didn't pull the trigger on Moss. Remember that? He's wanted out for far longer than just these past few months...

Oddly, some people DON'T remember that because Favre denied it afterward and his word was still "good" then. But I remember.

If the Packers really don't want Favre as their QB...then why would they be worried about him going somewehre else....anywhere else? If he isn't good enough to start in Green Bay then what are they worried about?

My family is all from about 30 minutes south of Green Bay...all season ticket holders...and not one of them want to see him in Minny.Hell, Id compare it to the feeling my Grandmother had when Jim McMahon was the backup for the Packer SB team. She cussed anytime he got in some mop up action. She would roll over in her grave if Favre was in Minny.

I don't think anyone, including TT, thinks he is not good enough to start. But TT is working not just under who the best QB is. As I have said...and even Tony Dungy agreed with me...its just not as simple as saying who the best player is between he and Rodgers.

So they don't want the best player available to them? Interesting. I guess they aren't real concerned about winning either. Suits me fine, I'm a Detroit fan. I would much rather see Rodgers twice a year instead of Favre.

2008: Favre > Rodgers2010 (and beyond): Rodgers > Favre (if Rodgers is given the chance to get a full year or two as a starter under his belt)

What does a Detroit fan know about winning or how to properly run a franchise? :stirspot:
