Favre could end the season on suspension (1 Viewer)

Attention whore move by some girl with a fake rack. Move on....
I agree. If Sterger did not want this public she did not have to tell a journalist. There is a lot more to this story. Favre would not send naked pictures to her without total trust in her. A lot happened before he would start taking pictures of his junk and sending it via pic message. At a minimum there was some motor boating going on before sexting.

What exactly would he be suspended for? The personal conduct policy is supposed to be for repeated offenses, and he wont even be charged in any court of law.
I'm guessing sexual harassment. I don't think the NFL needs to wait for a legal charge to be handed down, though. Roethlisberger wasn't charged and he got hit with four games.
Ben was a repeat offender..
Correction: Ben was accused twice.
Correction, Ben admitted twice to being out getting hammered with women in the VIP room, and that at least 1 was under age.. which is enough alone.... never mind what he did in the bathroom...
1) The first accuser was in her 30s and was not drinking with Ben in a VIP room. She alleged that he called her to his room to fix the TV and then made unwelcome advances. We don't know what really happened because she never went to the police but her story was pretty bizarre. 2) The second accuser was 20 and had a fake ID. Based on the facts released we don't know what, if anything, happened in the bathroom.

The point is that Goodell can suspend any player he feels is tarnishing the image of the league, regardless if a legal complaint is made or charges are filed.

Here is how the NCAA would handle it:Nothing happens to Favre.Nothing happens to the Vikings. The New York Jets get put on a 2 year probation. No playoffs, and half their draft picks are taken away. This is punishment for fostering an environment that allowed this sort of thing to happen.
And that is how these things should be treated.

Yeah fans and season ticket holders would love that. Punish a team for 2 years because one guy sends a picture of his :( to a female reporter.

According to her, she was not smitten and there was no relationship. She didn't come forward until after the story broke. She didn't want the story to break. But she told someone at Deadspin a few years ago about it "off the record," and the guy at Deadspin broke the story this past offseason without her blessing. Only after that did she talk about it publicly. According to her.
If you don't want a story to break, why talk about it with someone at Deadspin in the first place? Good grief!

I never disagreed with the bold-ed portion.. I disagree with every issue another player gets in trouble for, being compared to Ben's issue by Steelers fans... And the continued whinging about unfair treatment...

And, BTW, the fake ID doesn't get him off the hook.. If you can get in trouble for serving or selling to underage w/fake ID, you can certainly be in trouble for getting one drunk in order to fornicate..

Ben is a scum bag, classless bum... Yes he can play football, and yes he's your Jesus.. But still a classless scumbag.. So, you can whinge about how he was "never legally proven" and "no charges".. But he was still in the VIP room, and in the bathroom, serving (in more ways then one) an underage college girl.. And it wasn't the first time he'd been in that mode...

Go ahead a lawyer up now.. Ask me to prove it.... I don't have to... He and Goodell had a conversation, you don't know what was said, there were interviews, where you don't know what was said, and there was a real situation, where you don't know what happened... Goodell knows more than you do, stop crying in your beer already and move on...

No ####. They were probably 'friends' (read he was trying to #### her) and she liked that he worked for deaspin. After a few drinks she lets that slip, and for the next few months every move this guy makes is no longer related to ####### her, but getting the goods (emails, pics etc) on that story. I bet he was so nice to her for that few weeks.

"pants on the ground....pants on the ground....lookin like like a fool with your pants on the ground....."

Yeah, it's a messed up world when you can't even tell a female co-worker that she looks nice today without it being miscontrued that you want to get in her pants or skirt or whatever she's wearing.
And this is similar to (allegedly) sending them picks of your dong and inviting them to your hotel room in what way?

and wtf? people going overboard because they might suspend favre from his job. I've seen people first hand get put on sex predator lists for less. Are the authorities even involved?

This doesn't correspond at all to what is being reported. Everyone says she wanted no part of this. She's only gotten involved once the NFL asked her to. If we find out something different then that might change things. There may be "more to the story," but so far none of that has come to light. It seems pretty weak for people just throw out that she's an attention whore, there was motor boating, there's more to the story, etc. when they have nothing to support that. You might as well throw in an 'if the glove doesn't fit' or a Chewbacca defense while you're at it.

Assuming he's found guilty
Of what?
Would you consider sending Sexually explicit text messages to an unwilling recipient a crime? The most likely issue he will be suspended for is Sexual Harrasment. The NFL can't allow players to do this sort of thing to teams employees. They don't have to do a witch hunt, but they have to investigate and punish reported cases in order to avoid being targeted by a class action law suit.
When you listen to the voice mails he left, from his tone it sounds like they have a relationship. He is very casual and doesn't sound pushy or anything like that. She allegedly kept everything, yet didn't come forward with sexual harrassment until after he left NY. Maybe he did harrass her, but it's also not out of the question that she was smitten with him and kept everything, he ended the relationship, and she became a woman scorned.
That's what you heard? I heard an overpriveleged athlete who just assumes that he can order her to his room like she was a cheerleader at ole miss. It was clumsy and awkward, but that's based more on the lack of relationship (or that's what it seemed to me)

I'll bet now that this has come out, there's at least 4-5 more of these, as he's a 20 yr vet. This ain't his first rodeo.

It definitely didn't sound like "they had a relationship"

Its not a crime if the person is of age.
unless they did nothing to consent to the recepit of said text. Otherwise it's probably a felony. Here try something. go get a chicks phone number. Then text her an unsolicited pic of your ####. See how many of you get arrested?

ETA I might be wrong. I haven't defended any sex crimes so I only loosely pay attention to those threads on my email lists, apparently it might only be teens who are subjected to these laws, which seems like a big equal protection issue.

hmmm maybe the law hasn't caught up yet. here's on that is civil right now, not criminal.

Dayton woman sues man for sending her nude photosBy Kristin McAllisterStaff WriterThursday, April 24, 2008MIAMISBURG — A Dayton woman is suing a Dayton man and Sprint Nextel, claiming she received unsolicited text messages and nude digital photos of the man soon after he exchanged her Nextel telephone for a Sprint telephone at The Sprint Store in Miamisburg, according to Montgomery County court records.Nicole McElveen of Dayton claims that on March 14, 2007, she obtained a new cellular telephone for herself, her husband and two minor children at the Sprint store, 261 N. Springboro Pike, from employee Daryl J. Roy.McElveen claims that after she left the Miamisburg store, she began to receive from Roy a number of text messages on her new telephone with comments regarding "her looks, requests to date, to have dinner and other requests to enter into a social relationship."McElveen said she told him she was not interested "in any of his advances," according to documents.McElveen said for 16 days Roy continued to send her unsolicited text messages and, on March 30, sent her, via Sprint PCA Picture Mail, which is not part of McElveen's plan, a digital photo of himself from the neck up, followed by more text messages, according to the lawsuit.McElveen said Roy then sent her full-frontal nude photos of himself on April 9, 10 and 25, according to the lawsuit.McElveen reported the incidents to Miamisburg store officials and said that "she had destroyed" the nude photos.Roy denies the allegations and claims in court documents that McElveen often returned to the Sprint store to exchange telephones and that she first texted him and that "the two parties corresponded between themselves in this manner for a period of time." Roy claims in filings that McElveen requested photographs of him and "expressed her appreciation for receiving such photographs."McElveen's attorneys did not return calls Thursday, April 24, and attorneys for both Roy and Sprint elected to give no comment.McElveen is seeking compensatory damages of $25,000 and punitive damages of $1 million, claiming that she has suffered severe emotional stress, experienced loss of sleep, nervousness and incurred medical and hospital expenses for her care and treatment, according to filings. Her husband, David, claims in the filing that he has suffered the "loss of services, companionship, love, affection and consortium of his wife" as a result of "the outrageous conduct" of the defendants.McElveen's attorneys also claim that Sprint was "negligent in retaining" Roy "in his position as a customer service representative, because on occasions prior to March 9, 2007, he has digitally texted other Sprint female customers. These customers have presented themselves at the Sprint store in Miamisburg" and "expressed their displeasure with his conduct," according to filings.Contact this reporter at (937) 225-9338 or kmcallister@DaytonDailyNews.com.

He also said he isn’t sure punishments fit the alleged crime.Eduardo Cisneros, 18, Diego Guzman, 18, and Cruz Holguin, 19, were charged in Texas County on July 16 with distributing nude photos of a 17-year old girl by phones and email, the prosecutor said.“It’s a crime, and it needs to be addressed,” Texas County District Attorney Michael Boring said.“But the only option is to charge them with possessing obscene materials and child pornography.”
this one seems to rely only on the underage aspect of it. I'm a little surprised if no states have laws prohibiting this behavior.

It's not out of the question that she is just milking this story for cash and publicity. This is an old story that is suddenly getting the spotlight on the heels of the Ines story. If I were a betting man, I'd gamble that they had a tryst or she was at least letting him think she might be open to one. And being the calculating gal she is, she kept the right pieces of evidence to make for a juicy tell-all down the road. She's reportedly sold her story to a tabloid blog rather than filing a complaint against him with the league or the Jets.

Look at her career path. It doesn't mean she deserves to be harassed, but it means she might not have been.

OK, this might get me banned, but you're an idiot.Did Ben put himself in stupid situations? Yes.

Do you know what happened any more than a Steelers fan does? No.

But you can call him a scum bag, classless bum, and then admit that you can't prove anything, nor do you have to.

Guys (not just athletes) are in a situation where being accused of something (sexual harassment, rape, etc) damage their reputation, occupation, life, WITHOUT ANY PROOF because of idiots like you.

If he did something, he should get punished. If he didn't, he shouldn't. Unfortunately, unless you can prove he did something, he should be treated like he did nothing. That's kind of what the "innocent until proven guilty" and "due process" stuff is all about.

OK, this might get me banned, but you're an idiot.Did Ben put himself in stupid situations? Yes.Do you know what happened any more than a Steelers fan does? No.But you can call him a scum bag, classless bum, and then admit that you can't prove anything, nor do you have to.Guys (not just athletes) are in a situation where being accused of something (sexual harassment, rape, etc) damage their reputation, occupation, life, WITHOUT ANY PROOF because of idiots like you.If he did something, he should get punished. If he didn't, he shouldn't. Unfortunately, unless you can prove he did something, he should be treated like he did nothing. That's kind of what the "innocent until proven guilty" and "due process" stuff is all about.
OJ didn't do it did he?.............
I'm not entirely sure what you think that has to do with this. When you say do it, are you talking about some kind of sexual harassment incident, because I don't see what armed robbery or murder have in common with sexual harassment? In case you don't understand, sexual harassment tends to be a "he said, she said" kind of thing, and usually the only "evidence" is people's testimony. Sometimes people get away with sexual harassment because of that (that's why I used the word unfortunately, HTH). But, it's not fair to punish people who didn't do anything to "make sure" you get all the people who did, whether that punishment is actual punishment or damage to one's character.

How long is it going to be before a topic about an NFL player who might be in trouble with Goodell isn't interrupted with "But Ben did....." and "No Ben didn't" ?

Sounds like Favre cried while addressing teammates today. Does that sound like an innocent man? Just sayin.. :goodposting:

Maybe when there is some rhyme or reason to the player conduct policy? Ben is not charged with anything, and he is suspended 4 games.Vince Young attacks someone in a nightclub, on video, and he gets nothing.Shawn Rodgers is found guilty of having a gun in an airport, and he gets nothing.Chris Jennings gets arrested for punching a doorman at a nightclub (because he wasn't dressed properly??) and he gets nothing.Braylon Edwards is arrested for drunk driving, and he gets nothing.Cedric Benson has been arrested numerous times, and he has never gotten anything.Supposedly, the reason some of these guys got no punishment is because the policy only punishes "multiple offenders." Now Schefter is reporting that this isn't the case.So what gives? Why do some guys get punished and others don't?Until that question is answered, people will always bring up Ben.

They're discussing this issue at length right now on ESPN MNF pregame show.

Not the usual for them to go in-depth with a negative story on Favre.

Don't forget Johnny Jolly getting suspended for the whole season for his first violation, even after the charges were dismissed the first time. Sometimes the NFL resembles NASCAR, where some guys get nailed to the wall and others get just get scolded.

The answers for most of those things already exist. But if you don't want to see them nobody can make you.So in other words, "It will be brought up forever, or until there is true justice for Ben. Just Ben."

Evidence of a race based criteria?

1) The first accuser was in her 30s and was not drinking with Ben in a VIP room. She alleged that he called her to his room to fix the TV and then made unwelcome advances. We don't know what really happened because she never went to the police but her story was pretty bizarre.

2) The second accuser was 20 and had a fake ID. Based on the facts released we don't know what, if anything, happened in the bathroom.

The point is that Goodell can suspend any player he feels is tarnishing the image of the league, regardless if a legal complaint is made or charges are filed.
I never disagreed with the bold-ed portion.. I disagree with every issue another player gets in trouble for, being compared to Ben's issue by Steelers fans... And the continued whinging about unfair treatment...
Actually it was a Packer's fan that brought up the comparison. And never in this thread did I whine about unfair treatment. All I was doing was correcting inaccurate information.

WHOOOOOSHHH....

You keep missing the point all together... He did do something, he put himself in stupid situations because he thought he was a big shot.. Ordering drinks in mass for young women and then making advances... One was under age, now there's the problem...

1) Getting girls drunk in order to make advances is class-less.. Is that my opinion? Yes.. And the opinion of many others...

2) The girl was under age and he wasn't checking ID anyways....

3) I never claimed to know more than anyone else. But you claim he was innocent because he wasn't proven guilty... Shameful..... And Goodall knew enough to make a determination that he has, and knows more than you do.. For all you know, Ben could have admitted to everything he did right there in Goodell's office..
