Packers | Favre would consider playing for another team

Sat, 2 Sep 2006 22:38:21 -0700

Bob Wolfley, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre said during an interview with Bob Costas on HBO's "Costas Now" he would consider playing for another team with the Packers approval. Favre said, " I can't say it wouldn't happen. If it comes to a point where they do start over and I feel like I can play and they say, 'Brett, if you want to go somewhere else, go ahead, but we've got to start over. It's time for us to rebuild. It just doesn't make sense, so do what you want.' If I got the itch at some point, I can't say 'no.'"

Sounds to me like he wants to go out on top and realizes it won't happen with the Packers.

Which top team needs a QB though? Its not like he's going to want to play for the Raiders, Jets, or the Browns.

Maybe if Peyton Panning got injured, but other than something liek that, I cant see Favre playing anywhere else...

I agree but from this I think it's sounding more like he's willing to stick it out in GB this year but he may want to play even longer. In which case he's giving the Packers a way out by saying, go ahead and release/trade me in the offseason, to a contender, and I won't be upset. Then again, maybe I'm just reading waaaay too much into his comments cause the season nhasn't started yet and I'm bored out of my mind.

Brett Favre no longer has the ability to take ANY NFL team to the Super Bowl.
Can't disagree more. he is still a better QB than probably 1/2 to maybe even 2/3 of the league. Look at his OL in 2005 compared to 2004, 2003, 2002...he just hasn't had the time in the pocket. He can still trhow just fine.

redskins? gibbs love veteran qb's...and the one they have looks about out of gas.

good offensive line, good receivers, good rb(s)...could favre lead the skins to the super bowl?

I agree that I'd still take him over a number of starting QBs in the NFL today, but his passing has definitely fallen off quite a bit, and it's not all because of his line. His decision making has regressed significantly, to the point where I wouldn't trust him with the game on the line.

I think a lot of his bad decision making results from him being in a position where he can either pack it in and take the loss or act in desperation in hopes that he could pull something together and make something happen. I really doubt he would make those choices if he was ahead in a game.

At various times during his first tenure, Gibbs/Beathard/Casserly attempted to acquire John Elway and Dan Marino. Obviously, the impact of FA and the salary cap radically change the way that such transactions occur, making them both easier and more difficult. I just don't see, however, how the 'Skins could make such an acquisition happen under their cap.

A fading Jim McMahon took the Packers to the Super Bowl back in '97. ;)
I'm not sure who you are thinking of, but McMahon only threw a total of five passes in two years for the Packers.Or maybe I just don't get the joke.
You have GOT TO BE kidding me. McMahon was like another QB Coach on the sidelines. Who do you think settled Favre down? Steve Mariucci?

His arm's always been strong and still is. His decision-making has always been poor and still is. The only part of his game that has regressed is his ability to move. He's not a statue back there, but he can't run like he did ten years ago.

This annoys me. All Favre has to do his ask to be released. This should have been taken care of in March.
