Favre returning in '06 (1 Viewer)

I hope for Favre and his legacy, that he decides to announce at some point before the season that this will be his last season. It would be nice to be able to give him his dues as he goes on the road this year, and to allow his fans at home to give him the respect that he has earned, all season long.

That being said; I don't believe this is a good thing for the Packers as a franchise. Brett has already stated that he doesn't want to mentor a young QB, and another year w/o Brett is going to be another year that the Packers take a step back from being a good franchise. For those stating that they had too much to overcome last year, to be competitive, teams have overcome more, and done well (see the NE Patriots of last year for an example). In fact, the Pack of last year were in virtually every game, but didn't get the big plays that were needed at the end of the games to get it done.

For those that think the Packers just out and out sucked and don't want to put any blame on Favre:

This suggests something else

In all honesty, if Favre was dead-set on retiring after this season and he walked off the field late in the 4th quarter, I would stand and applaud him. All things aside, he has been one of the most prolific passers in the game.

You had to bring back that crap thread.

Personally I wish we could get away from this "Favre is an attention whore" so I can get back to Favre-hat'n.
:goodposting: Even a Favre hater understands the "attention whore" stuff is whacked.
:lmao: I say that whole sun sets in the west thing is whack. Not enough evidence.

That thread is a great example of what you offer this board. You have multiple opinionated posts and quite a few insults, but offer ZERO evidence to back up your rhetoric. We get that you love Brett, and that he does no wrong in your eyes. Fair enough, as we all have tainted views based solely on opinion. Yet, try and make some contribution to this board beyond calling others "Haters", etc. This board is supposed to be an exchange of information, not insults.

--2006--

Favre: 3625 YDS, 20 TD, 20 INT

Driver: 90 REC, 1230 YDS, 7 TD

That's all this announcement means, right? That Driver is still a quality pick this year...

Great.

Another season of Favre explaining that they're a young team that can't rely on talent to overcome mistakes after he threw for 2 or 3 INTs that put the Packers into a hole.

His unwillingness to change his game for the good of the team will cost them a few wins again this year. I'd be happy for Packers fans if he'd actually swallow a little pride and adapt his game to a weaker supporting cast, but we all know he won't do that. He'll try to do too much, make a ton of mistakes, and be praised in the media for trying to carry the Packers on his back.

I'll go you one better. Regardless of when he retires, when all is said and done I will have tremendous respect for what he accomplished during his career. As a passer and a leader, he was one of the best I have personally seen in over three decades as a fan of the game. It's a pity to think how much more I would like him if we didn't have to put up with his nonsense during the offseason.

That's what it means to me!

Serious question...

where does 29 ints in a season rank on the all time INT list?

I'd think it has to be fairly high. I know Vinny threw 33 back in Tampa, and Scott Mitchell chucked 32 in Detroit.

Anyone have the list?

Top 3:Blanda ('62) - 42

Testeverde ('88) - 35

Frank Tripucka ('60) - 34

42!!wow

that's pretty insane

Favre has turned into a pathetic attention hound. The fact that he strung us along for months after he already made his decision is proof of that.
Favre is a lot of things (which I like to point out), but he is not an attention hound. He is an iconic professional athlete and it has always been the media seeking him out, not the other way around. If one is going to make the case Favre is an attention whore, than the onus will on them to provide links showing the frequency in which Favre has scheduled impromptu press conferences.
:goodposting: Just remember that facts and Favre haters don't mix. ;)
Fact - In his last ten games Farve threw 6 td's and 21 int's.Fact - Farve is 22 int's from the all time record (he threw 29 last year).

Fact - I don't want to list his numbers from his last 8 playoff games.

And when in doubt...these are the facts the haters come up with. They ignore everything positive because those positive things messed with the teams the haters want to support.

You have to be one pathetic loser to find solace in bashing Favre.

Even Steve DeBerg knew when it was time to hang 'em up.
If that were true, then none of us would have ever seen Steve DeBerg play a single game.
He won't be enshrined in Canton anytime soon, but if there was a Hall of Fame for best play-action fakes, he would be a first ballot selection.1) Peyton Manning

2) Steve DeBerg

3) Boomer Esiason

Favre is a gun-slinger, and with that mentality there are some negatives - and here they are. More times than not people embrace Favre's risk taking ability but more times than not they would like to turn the other cheek when analyzing the reward\penality ratio of Favre's mentality.

The more I watch Favre in the post-Homlgren era, the more I watch Hasselbeck in the current Homlgren era and the more highlights I see of Favre under Holmgren in Green Bay...I don't think it is a reach to say Favre is most successful when he is asked not to be Brett Favre and be a system quarterback.
