I'm not gonna post a time limit for picks; most of you are hard-core FBG. You should know to "hurry your butt up" by now. If you stall for too long, I will jump and make the pick. Hence, the necessity for a moderator.

One thing: try to be as accurate and true to what you believe your teams should and would do. Example: If you believe the Browns really will pick DE with the first pick, do it and let us know why.

For 5rings:

This pick needs to be traded. As Football Jones illustrated in the previous mock, SF will not get FMV for this selection when traded. I'm encouraged by all the smoke being blown by Nolan right now, and think he is doing his best to create a market for the #1 selection.That said, if I have to pick and can't trade...ouch. The team nees upgrading basically everywhere. My preference would be OL or DL, but no player is rated high enough to fill this need. I will not take a RB, as I believe Barlow will bounce back big this year, and there is sufficient depth in the draft we can still pick up an excellent player in Rd 4. I'd love a DB, but don't have either Rolle or PacMan that high.That said, looking at the SF draft board, it really boils down to Rodgers, Smith, Edwards, Big Mike Williams, and D.Johnson. I think DJohnson might be the BPA, but he plays the one position where the team has both young talent and depth (Winborn-JP-Ulbrich-Smith-Seigler-Moore), so I won't take him.SF has some young WRs, such as Woods (#1 last year), Lloyd, Battle, Hamilton (#3 last year) and newly acquired Boston, so I don't see such a huge need for WR.It all comes down to QB--I am not a Rattay fan. His hangdog body language and expressions convey a losing attitude. His QB rating fell every month, from 94-66-45. I feel he played well in ONE game last year--AZ, decent in another--SEA, and awful in 7 more. I feel he held the ball too long and didn't make smart decisions, especially in the 4th quarter. I feel if the team was the 2000 Ravens, he could be a sufficient caretaker, a Dilfer at best, Detmer most likely.(I'm about done)With the #1 Pick, San Francisco takes QB Aaron Rodgers, Cal . Tedford-curse bedamned. Rodgers has sufficient size, a howitzer of an arm, and has proven at both Butte CC and Cal to be a leader and winner. This is going to be a tough call.

In a perfect world, we would have an offensive lineman grading out to a top 3 pick and make this 3rd overall selection a no-brainer.

The truth is that picking an offensive lineman means we would have to trade out of this spot as none are worth drafting this early.

So what other needs do we have that could be addressed this early and matchup up with an available worthy prospect.

Well, we need a QB prospect to groom, one who will be accurate and consistent rather than a big penchant for the long ball and risky passes.

Lee Suggs, or even Chester Taylor (if we are able to keep him) could prove to be quite valuable, but the jury is out on both of them, so a big back capable of pounding the ball, eating the clock and wearing down defenses is definitely an option

On the other side of the ball, we need an impact linebacker to run the defense. There isn't really an impact player who can stop the run, which was the worst in the NFL last year.

Looking over the prospects that could best fit those needs, we have Utah quarterback Alex Smith, Texas runningback Cedric Benson and Texas linebacker Derrick Thompson. As luck would have it, they are all available.

So who do we take? Well, the choice here is going to come down to who can we get with our other picks, as well as what we already have on our roster. Without divulging who we are targeting in later rounds, we are going to push aside our bitter memories of our first stab at drafting a franchise QB and select:

1.03, Cleveland Browns: QB-ALEX SMITH-UTAH

Smith is simply a better fit for the ball control, mistake free offense we are going to try to implement here. He has the measurables you want in a franchise QB (6-4, 212) and he's smart too(40/50 Wonderlic score). His recent pro day also put to rest some questions about his accuracy and his arm strength. The biggest concern was how he would perform in formations other than shotgun, and he blew everyone away.

Having him learn under Trent Dilfer will also be very beneficial. Dilfer was an early franchise QB pick for the Bucs, he can show Alex how we want our offense to be run, he was a Superbowl winning QB with the Ravens, and he is not only a veteran leader in the dressing room, but he also gets involved in his community.

I'm passing up on Cedric Benson as I think Thomas Jones proved effective with a healthy O-Line and Rex Grossman.

He'll do even better with Braylon Edwards (the speed WR) split out opposite of Muhsin Muhammad, the possession WR.

Easy choice, but I was tempted to take Derrick Johnson even though LB isn't a need for TB. Antrel Rolle was another consideration mainly because I also really like him and feel DJ and Rolle are the best playmaking defensive players in this draft. But Tampa will gladly take the Caddy.

The talent of Mike Williams matched up with the genius who knows him (New Titans OC Norm Chow and former USC OC) very well is what pushes me to make this pick for the Titans... just too hard to pass that up.

1.07 - Minnesota Vikings select Cedric Benson, RB UTexas.

I think that these is sincerity in Minny when Tice and Co. say they want to move to a power running game. Culpepper to Moss was a thing of beauty, but it did little to grind out the clock and control the pace of the game. The O-line is very solid, yet for some reason, the team never hasn't tried to bulldoze people in some time. I wonder why? Well, for starters, they have 3 pretty-good RBs. What they need is a VERY good RB who can break games wide open or, more importantly, carry the rock 25 times week in and week out.

I think this pick is likely if Benson is there, even with Johnson on the board.

The Minnesota Vikings are at a crossroads. They traded away the best WR in the game to help make their defense into a SuperBowl bound one. The offseason has been extremely productive for the Vikings. It has garnered new starters at NT-Pat Williams, OLB-Sam Cowart, FS-Darren Sharper, and CB-Fred Smoot. This would have allowed the Vikings to fill their need for a WR at #7 if Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards would have fallen to them. Having the two WR's taken before them brings up a quandry. Should they take a stud RB even though they have 3-4 good RBs already on the roster? Should they take a RDE and move Udeze to LDE? Or should they take the sure thing at LB. They have used their last 3 2nd rounders on LBs but have never had the chance to bring a talent in like Johnson. In the end I picked Johnson because he is the best player available. The Vikings have Thomas at WLB but he looked lost all of last year. Johnson is a considerable upgrade because he is said to be the best pass covering LB to come out in 10 years. He also allows the Vikings to switch to a 3-4 when they choose to. With Johnson, Henderson, Cowart, Harris/Thomas the Vikings have a lot of talent. The Vikings now have a very good DL, a very good LB unit, and a very good DB unit. This is a talented defense that will allow the team to get to the SuperBowl.I choose Derrick Johnson over Shawnee Merriman because Johnson is the can't miss prospect that completes the defense. Merriman would have been a stretch at this point.

1.08, ARIZONA CARDINALS: Running Back Cedrick Benson, Texas

It was an obvious choice anyway. The Cards needed a running back more than anything, even though they really need help at corner. Benson is just the guy Denny is looking for. Marcel Shipp wont get the job done in Arizona. It was between Antrel Rolle and Cedrick Benson.

The Detroit Lions select Marcus Spears, DE, LSU.

Close call between Spears, Barron and Shawne Merriman.. Barron might be the smartest pick if they could only trade out of this position and move down. Merriman would be a great addition with his speed and pass rush potential.

I hope that one of the top 9 expected picks like PacMan, Derrick Johnson, one of the 2 QBs, 2 WRs or one of the 3 backs so the Lions could get someone to trade up to this pick. I don't expect it to happen though. If one of the WRs, DJ or Pacman are on the board, then they'd be gone at this point for certain.

Spears is on the board and arguably the best DE along with Merriman, Cody, Jones, Pollack, etc. I had a difficult time not selecting Merriman (Dwight Freeney potential) and thought at least once about Antrel Rolle, but I went with Spears.

I believe SD would try to trade this pick if the draft shakes out like this. Spears and Barron were 1 and 2 left on my board after Washington picked.

1.12 Shawn Merriman DE/OLB Maryland

Merriman had an excellent pro-day and improved his stock by running a 4.64 - 40. The Chargers were near the bottom of the league in sacks last year and need someone to put pressure opposite Foley. At 6-4 and 272 pounds the Chargers may have the flexibility to use Merriman standing up at OLB or with his hand down at DE. Merriman won't likely be asked to drop into coverage and will be used primarily as a pass rusher. My other considerations for the Chargers first pick included Rolle at CB or WR. Other DEs may be more ideally suited for the 3-4 end (Shaun Cody), but I felt Merriman would add the most immediate value.

The Houston Texans select Antrel Rolle CB Miami. Rolle gives the the Texans two aggressive physical corners who are excellent open field tacklers. Rolle like Robinson from last year can blitz from the corner. these two corners give the Texans the flexibility to blitz from all over the field, but at the same have players with good ball skills. the biggest difference in the players is that Rolle has above average size for the position and Robinson has better pure speed.

Carolina Panthers select Troy Williamson, WR South Carolina.Once again, Williamson is the BPA at 14 and fits a need for the Panthers. If he lives up to his potential, the Panthers would have some great young receivers.Information on Williamson...Hands: Is now more consistent. Has big, soft hands. Adjusts well to bad passes. Catches passes over his shoulder, and makes a lot of acrobatic catches downfield. Can snatch passes out of the air on the run without slowing down. Grade: 8.5. Patterns: Is a big-time downfield threat. Has excellent deep speed to beat cornerbacks man-to-man. Shows the burst, speed, athletic ability and body control to develop into a fine route-runner. Tends to round off routes. Grade: 8.2. Run after catch: Is not as explosive after the catch. Is not overly elusive, but has great speed to outrun defensive backs. Shows good vision to cutback against the grain. Grade: 8.5. Release: Has adequate size and great speed to drive cornerbacks off the line. Lacks great strength. Has some trouble against big, physical defensive backs. Must improve array of moves. Grade: 7.9. Blocking: Works hard. Gets good position, has long arms to lock on defenders and shows good leverage. Lacks ideal bulk and lower-body strength to hold his ground. Grade: 8.5. Bottom line: Williamson, a productive junior, left school early rather than deal with a new coaching staff. He must improve as an intermediate route-runner and get stronger. However, he has rare athletic ability, adequate height, excellent speed and loads of big-play potential

ok, so the options for the saints are wide and varied. with both of the top rated qb's off the board, it allows the Saints braintrust to concentrate on the defensive side of the ball. I did consider a TE briefly too.

our d-line is set but we're betting on jonathan sullivan returning to a slimmed down version to be effective. certainly, our LB's wouldn't confuse anyone with the "dome patrol" with watson, rodgers/buckwoldt and allen. the secondary had been a glaring weakness for years but adding mackenzie, dwight smith and re-signings like craft at the nickel and wiley vet like bellamy at safety gives the saints hope for mediocrity, if nothing else.

It is a toss up between LB and S here. The youngsters at LB really came on late in the season, so I'm curious to see how effective they are this season. I want to at least give them a chance. Consequently, this means I'm taking Safety/Thomas Davis . He's got size and speed. I expect him to be effective in run support. He doesn't have to start today but he certainly could. He gives me tremendous defensive flexibility, allowing Venturi to do more than simply react in his playcalling. I expect Davis to be starting by the end of the season, in fact.

Pick 1.20 The Dallas Cowboys select CBJustin Miller, Clemson. 5'11" 200 lbs.I think that the dropoff to the next corner is greater than the dropoff of DE ( the other position I considered here ). I expect to be able to get a DE in the 2nd round. Justin Miller should really help the Cowboys secondary who are desperate for a corner to start opposite of Newman.
