FBG NFL MOCK DRAFT BY THE NUMBERS (PICKS) (1 Viewer)

Falcons select ILB Kirk Morrison, San Diego St.

Strengths: Very productive...Flows to the ball well and seems to be in on every play...Has a ton of experience...Very instintive and aggressive...Tough and always gives 100%...Team leader and captain. Weaknesses: Lack of speed is the major concern...Has only average size...Will struggle when asked to drop into coverage...Can get caught up in traffic. Notes: One of the most highly decorated linebackers in all of college football...Doesn't have ideal measurables but he just gets the job done...Will at the very least be an excellent backup and special teamer...The type of player you hate to underestimate

Well Indy has so far has added a shutdown type CB in Jackson and a solid run stuffer in Patterson. The need for defense never ends though as there are still needs for a MLB and another DE. Yet, the Colts have yet to address the issue of Edge and his one year Franchise contract. Edge is aging and wants too much cash for his worth. We need a RB who can develop in this complex system but he has to have hands along with the ability to bounce and run in the stretch play.

With that, the Colts are shocked and excited to pick

JJ Arrington, RB, Cal

I was seriously contemplating Arrington here, but he just got plucked. Ryan Moats or Kay-Jay Harris here would be a possibility, as the Steelers need a back of the future, but Harris is already 26 and Moats doesn't fit the prototype of the power back the Steelers usually employ (neither does Arrington, for that matter.) Thus, I am forced to turn my attention elsewhere. Having already picked up some OL depth and a CB, need areas are DE, RB, and WR/TE. The best value, I believe, at this spot is :

Jerome Mathis, WR, Hampton

The Steelers run-oriented offense stalls when an adequate deep threat to stretch the field is missing. This is where Burress' value was to the offense, more so than in his numbers. Randle-El is more quick than fast, and isn't going to command double teams down the field. Mathis would. The guy is not big, at 5' 11" 185 lbs, but he is fast. And I mean, greasy fast, as Mickey Goldmill would say. He ran a legitimate 4.31 at the combine, one of the fastest times ever recorded. He is clearly raw, and drops too many balls, but would be able to contribute immediately as a 4th receiver and on special teams, and has as much upside as any receiver in this draft. He could potentially be a Joe Horn/Lee Evans type who could go for 1300 and 9 TDs every year. This is far from a sure thing, but in round 3, we can take a shot. With Ward, Randle-El, and Wilson in the fold, Mathis could spend a year learning the game and working on his route-running and hands before being thrown into the fire in a full-time role.

Edit to add some numbers : Shows how raw but talented this guy is. Granted, this is against lower-level competition, but still.....

For his CAREER at Hampton, he averaged 26.4 yards per catch and 9.1 yards per carry. Averaged 35.5 yards per return taking kicks back his senior year and returned 5 for TDs. Averaged 30 yards per catch his senior year and had 9 TDs on 29 receptions. For his career, he had only 136 touches (rushing and receiving) and scored 24 TDs. Incredibly raw, but certainly a dynamic playmaker.

3.31 - Philadelphia Eagles select RB Cedric Houston

RB Cedric Houston

Official Bio College: Tennessee Height: 5-103/4

Position: Running Back Weight: 225

Class: Senior 40-Yard: 4.50

Good, tough inside runner with good potential. Will be splitting time with Westbrook, so we're hopeful with better strength training and conditioning programs he can beat the injury bug. Not really expecting much contribution this year, but he gives us someone to use if/when Buckhalter falters.

Strengths: Excellent natural athletic ability...Very productive when healthy...Great size...Good speed...Has the power to run inside and the speed to kick it outside...Has a burst...Good receiver out of the backfield and a solid blocker...Still has some upside.

Weaknesses: Can't seem to stay healthy and is always battling some sort of injury...Ball security is questionable...Never carried the load and has always shared the job with the Vols...Hasn't really lived up to his potential.

Notes: An underrated player with a lot of upside who could develop into a very good starter...If he can stay healthy some team could have a steal on their hands...Could end up being a better pro than college player and Tennessee running backs have a good track record in the NFL.

i have 3 thoughts...junior rosegreen, saftey - he's more depth there.ryan moats, rb. - they can't be too excited by their very cluttered and unspectacular backfield. nehemiah broughton, fb. - this is the #1 rated fb in the draft. he's quick and a load. hodgkin's went down early last season with injury and this guy could step in.

I don't have time to address this in-depth, but I can go over the Cards needs briefly. So in this mock the Cards have taken a QB, RB and a CB. I would say that based on what has transpired so far, the Cards would be looking at these positions:1) Free Safety - Robert Griffith was signed, but he's a stop gap. 2) Cornerback - You've got the Cards taking a corner, but that will only put two on the roster. David Macklin is the only other corner on the team right now. Taking a 2nd corner at this pick wouldn't surprise me.3) Offensive Guard - The tackle spots look great with Davis and Ross. Steponvich is solid in the middle. The guard position on both sides of the line could be improved.4) Tight End - This is a big need, but only this far down the list as no TE on the board is worth this pick.5) Defensive tackle and Linebacker would also merit consideration if a good enough player was on board.Keep in mind that Green always goes with the best available player.

I say give them Rosegreen and then get Bloom and/or Nightshift in here to give everyone their draft grades. :D
