FBGs vs Kasparov- chess game- Draw agreed to (1 Viewer)

Thoughts? I want to move my king back towards the center (Kd2) but also want to move my rook back to d3 or f3, which means moving the bishop.

Well first off we probably can't play Be7:

Be7 Ra8+ Kd7 Rb8+ Ke8 d6 Bd8 not sure how white proceeds but this doesn't look good at all.

Could team FBG have won with a better captain?

ill hang up and listen
As someone who's been oddly obsessed with following this thread even though I don't know a damn thing about chess, I'd say no. The guy has put more time and effort into this thing, while collating the input of others, than I imagine anyone else would have. Haters gonna hate but I'm impressed.

Great job Timmy!

We need to keep the A file choked off.  If his rook gets behind us to assist with his pawn, we are screwed.  I don't want his rook getting active on our back rank

Kb7 not d7 IMO

If he wants to get his rook active, let's force him to spend tempo to swing it across the 1st rank and down the other side of the board.  We can use that time to get our pawns rolling

I don't think we can allow his rook in behind us.  I'd play kb7.

However, I'm interested in the possibility of trading our bishop for his last pawn.

...rd3

bxb4...rxd5

bf4...then what?

John Benders plan is still viable

Rd3 Bxb4 Rxd5
I want to actually look at this on a computer and can't until after the work day. Been using the picture of AA's board (which is upside down for our perspective too and my damn phone flips the image every time I try to turn it over   )

Once I get to a computer, I will definitely look though if I'm crazy or not. We need a plan behind it to get the pawns home but taking his last pawn off the table I do like.

Actually, if we want to sacrifice our bishop for his pawn, be7 may be best as it could bring our king in to our pawns...

...be7

ra8+...kd7

ra7+...ke8

ra8+...kf7

ra7...rb5

bd6...rxd5

bxe7...ke6

I couldn't win from that position, but maybe there's a chance?

Crowd-sourced Grand Master?

This time we're going to wait on John Bender to develop his plan. We can wait up to 3 days between moves if need be. My major weakness in this thing is moving too quickly, I know.

This.

Kb7 unless we want to go with the bishop for pawn swap.

If anyone thinks we can still at least earn a draw by going that route, I'm absolutely all for it.  We're just slow marching toward a draw currently.  If the bishop swap is what we want, I think the be7 line above could get our king involved whereby the rd3 route leaves our king hung out unable to help.

Thx dude. I will post in here tonight after I work it all out. It's just easier with a computer where I can move the actual pieces around

Slacker! :)

Seriously, this has been an impressive game (and strategic/tactical contributions), I didn't expect it to get extended this far, or result in a probable draw/possible win.

Tim

I've gone through my sacrifice plan every which way here. So With his King where it is, I'm having tremendous trouble finding a way to get our pawns home.  I think Kb7 is fine here.

I think both options are still a draw. I know I was saying my move is more enterprising, but it appears it depends on a Kaspy mistake which I don't think we're going to get looking at the move history here. I can't see a single inaccuracy he's made yet. Not sure why I would expect our new plan to throw him off because he hasn't been thrown off yet. I think both lines are a draw and my line is a sacrifice that is sound, but doesn't lead to a winning chance. I've tried about every continuation I can think of and I can't come up with a way to roll our pawns forward in any of them.  It allows his rook to get active in our back rank and check us around until kingdom come

Good to have JB involved even though I sapped his mojo with my board pic.   ;)
Hell no man! That was completely my fault dude.

I was away in Florida for a week there and battling illness for a few weeks before that.

I'm here for the finish though at this point. Thanks for keeping us kicking ### :)

Yes, we need to throw some likes at the OP.

back from 18 holes of golf in the desert.  Any chance of getting picture of the current board?    And to answer someone's question Tim has handled this exemplary; especially with his calls for participation from any & all.

Cudos!

I'm just a lurker here,  but I also throw in my kudos to Tim for the game,  the thread,  and the tempo.  There were times where he moved a little too quickly but overall A+++,  would watch another chess game again

Can I get a pgn of the current position?
Black has Kb7, Bb4, rb3, and two pawns on e4 and f5.

White has Ke2, Ra4, Be5, and a pawn on d5.

White to move.

I suspect Kaspy marches his pawn up the board here. Perhaps...

d6...bc5 (gotta free up our bishop and rook)

d7...rd3

bd4...be7

rc4...

You know what? You guys are right, this is a draw.

Should we just offer a draw to Kaspy?

Just want to say this was fun to follow. At first I thought you guys would get slaughtered with too many cooks in the kitchen. Tim did a nice job of wading through a lot of input and taking time. I thought people would get impatient but it played out well.

Good luck with the finish!

Here, here! Raising a glass to Tim for leading this effort and for other key contributors on this collaborated effort.  Well done gentlemen!

I'm not really sure how black should proceed on a quick glance, but gut tells me those connected passed pawns might be worth playing it out.  Same-color bishop endgame, connected passed pawns.  I don't really have time to analyze but my instinct says a draw favors white.

I did like Kb7 though, you don't want white sneaking the rook down the a-file.  Force him to reroute it around the board to assist his pawn, if you can.  But I know you guys know that.

Possible moves:

1. Bc5 already explored in Wilk's post.

2. Kc6. This would allow white to play Ra8  or Ra7 and bring his rook to the other side of the board- we can't take the pawn because of Rb6+. Kaspy could also choose to be more aggressive: Rb6+ Kd7 Rb7+ Ke6 looks OK. If d7, Rd3.

So it's Bc5 or Kc6.
