Drunk. What would happen if you followed with pawn f3?If he plays Rc3 we have to retreat our rook and start over. I hope he doesn't play it.
ETA: Kg3

Probably not Kg3, but Kf2. And that leads to a draw very quickly.Drunk. What would happen if you followed with pawn f3?

Yup. I looked at a way around this but could find nothing. If he played Kg3 we'd win with Bh4+ But he won't.
Still drunk. What aboutIf he plays Rc3 we have to retreat our rook and start over. I hope he doesn't play it.
In other words Rc3 Rxc3 Bxc3 Bh4Still drunk. What about
- rook takes rook
- bishop takes rook
- Bishop h4
Still wandering around the desert - King B6I just saw a good move for white- Rc3. I don't know how to answer it.
We can't get there in time. Rxe3 fxe3 Kf3 Kc5 Kxe2 At this point, Kaspy doesn't even need to capture the other pawn- he can leave his king on e2 forever and we can't dislodge him. However, he can capture it anytime by playing Bf2.Still wandering around the desert - King B6
Here is my earlier calculation. I plan on Bf6.timschochet said:So Re3 Rc5 ( I don't see any other good moves for white) Bf6 Rf5 (again no other good moves) Bc3 Bf2 (forced) Be5 Be1 (forced) and Kc6 and we're going to win by bringing our king up.
Please analyse this and let me know if I've made any errors this time.
I agree rf5 is probably a win. Nice. Here is my earlier calculation. I plan on Bf6.
Good point. The game has been going on over a month...No need to get in a hurry now. That quick a move lets him know he did what you wanted him to do.
I don't think f3+ works after kf2. Be5 looks best to me.And of course Kaspy plays Rc4. Not falling for the trap!
Nonetheless I like our position. Now we need to take our time again and consider our options: we've got f3+ or Bf5
Yeah. Kaspy too good. I can't figure it out. Lets play be5 and just play it out.Un####ingbelievable
I give up.
Which square did you mean when you said Bd7? d7 is a white square.Wait a minute. I looked again, and there might be something there.
Bg5 (returns us to the previous position and threatens f3+.)
Bg5 Rc5 Bd7 Rc4 and NOW I think we can play f3+
f3+ Kf2 Rd3 and now he can't play Rf4- Rf4 Bc5+
Ha! We shouldn't give up just yet; I was wrong. I propose Bg5.
I meant Be7.Which square did you mean when you said Bd7? d7 is a white square.
What if instead of Rc4 he goes Rf5?
If he moves his rook we might be able to do just that. But first we have to protect those pawns. If you can free your King you might be able to get to a rook/bishop v. bishop endgame. His king is in a location where you would have a chance.
What makes you think he's going Rc5? On the previous page you mentioned Rc3 (which I think he's more likely to do than Rc5) and I haven't seen an answer to this play.I meant Be7.
If Bg5 Rc5 Be7 Rf5 we play Bd6
I may have a piece position mixed up, but if after Bg5 white moves Rc3, I believe f3+ loses him his rook and the game. What makes you think he's going Rc5? On the previous page you mentioned Rc3 (which I think he's more likely to do than Rc5) and I haven't seen an answer to this play.
So your thinking....I may have a piece position mixed up, but if after Bg5 white moves Rc3, I believe f3+ loses him his rook and the game.
He was answering me. I asked what if he goes Rc5.What makes you think he's going Rc5? On the previous page you mentioned Rc3 (which I think he's more likely to do than Rc5) and I haven't seen an answer to this play.
I *did* have a piece position mixed up, the location of our bishop. Thanks to Rick for the updated diagram. So your thinking....
Rc3 f3+ Kf2 Rxc3 Bxc3
Then what? Best case scenario I see is trading rooks and I don't think you'll be able to push either of the pawns home with just King/Bishop.
He had the chance to play Rc3 before and he didn't. Either he didn't see it (unlikely) or there was something about it he didn't like and preferred Rc5 instead. I think he'll play Rc5 again because it sets up draw by repetition. What makes you think he's going Rc5? On the previous page you mentioned Rc3 (which I think he's more likely to do than Rc5) and I haven't seen an answer to this play.
You mean f3+, right? What about g3+ ? Is there a way to get the pawn home if you force be1xg3? I don't see it, but figured I'd throw it out there since I'm not very good.
I think Bass has the right idea ultimately. I've been looking at this all wrong, and it's why I've been getting so frustrated. I keep looking for tactical ways to force the pawns home. If those present themselves, great. But the problem is that we're playing rook and bishop against rook, bishop and King. We're at a disadvantage. What we need to concentrate on is protecting our pawns and finding a way to get our King involved. We need to be more patient than I have been.
It's not our turn unfortunately. Where he moves his rook, hopefully to Rc5 will allow us to play Be7It appears our present position is solid, in that we can thwart any threat. Sooooooooooo how about marching our King down to get in on the action?
