FDA proposes ban on menthol cigarettes and cigars (1 Viewer)

My logic is don't ban either. Let adults decide what they want to smoke 🤷‍♂️

I don't think we should ban it either.  My plan was to tax the living hell out of cigarettes and make the cost so prohibitive that people would no longer be able to afford to buy the product.  But some people on here think that's racist because apparently it disproportionately effects minorities.  They prefer to just slowly kill the population instead.

I'm not a fan of "sin" taxes. Nobody is slowly killing the population. The individual (like me) is slowly killing ourselves. My body my choice. I enjoy a cigarette here and there. I'm not a heavy smoker tho. 1/2 pack a day maybe. Why can't people who don't smoke just leave us smokers be? I'm not hurting you. Or anyone else for that matter.

More than $225 billion in healthcare costs are associated with smoking.  So yeah, your smoking does have an effect on me because I have to subsidize smokers healthcare treatments with my healthcare premiums.

Their vote isn’t making a difference, they vote for the same party.

This could also be solved but allowing insurance companies to charge more for smokers. 7 states currently prohibit this.

Do you get angry at people on welfare? Food stamps? SSI? We subsidize many things we don't want or like. How about unions who get Cadillac retirement and benefits that are subsidized by non union tax payers? I'll just move on from here. You have a wonderful weekend 👍

Well welfare and food stamps are for poor people.  I'm more ok subsidizing that, for sure.

If you want to smoke, I support your right to do so.  I'd be thrilled to stop subsidizing your healthcare, though.

Well, you don't??? If you do, take it up with BC/BS. I pay for my own insurance and they know I smoke. Hell, tell them to charge me more. Just make sure to charge every fatty, diabetic, anyone with genetics to cancer, family history of heart disease, etc etc.

I'm a menthol-smoking gun-carrying white liberal, and these party positions don't threaten my party loyalty at all.

Why not?

Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Ronald Reagan, Oliver North, Alexander Haig, Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

Bad democrats are stupid; bad republicans are evil.

Quod Est Demonstratum.

I've never heard of a menthol cigar before today, but would have no problem jailing anyone who would smoke one.
I haven't really seen them.  There's flavored cigars for the ladies and the metrosexuals but I don't recall seeing menthol per se.

I'm a strong Nicaraguan filler snob personally.  Edge, Joya de Nicaragua etc.  Dominican tobacco tastes like dirt imo.

I'm not sure this is accurate.  Who costs more, a 50-year old smoker or a 50-year old non-smoker?  The smoker, of course.  Who costs more, an 80-year old smoker or an 80-year old non-smoker?  The non-smoker, because the smoker is probably dead.
