FFA In Death Spiral? (1 Viewer)

I used to enjoy keeping up with the political threads and chiming in now and then but I almost never go into the subforum and my overall participation has gone way down because of it.
Same here, and I love it. Out of sight out of mind.

Was looking for the is this board dying thread, found this one instead - I think the FFA is on the way to the grave. I mean, there will still be activity, but it will continue to dwindle and turn into a continuous circle of the same conversations between maybe 50-100 people, I consider that the death of this board.

My posting has dropped substantially and see no reason for that to reverse. Occasionally when bored I'll drop a note or something, usually in the stock thread, but I'm not really seeing the point in that anymore either. I'm on a 6 hour flight right now, finished my work, did some reading, and the wifi isn't good enough to stream anything, so I eventually found my way to the FFA when I officially had absolutely nothing left to do on the internet - read through it and maybe 1 or 2 laughs, 5 years ago there would have been enough good content to keep me laughing for at least an hour.

I think there are a group reasons that the FFA is in a so-called death spiral:

- Good posters have gone MIA.

- Moderation has really gotten ridiculous (prob a reason for some posters going MIA).

- Fantasy football popularity in general is on a serious decline, with fully legalized gambling on the horizon, could be the death blow for FF.

- So many places to view good content, less moderated, maybe moderated better content. I'm not saying there isn't a place for moderation, but I am saying it has gotten out of hand.

- Place just isn't as entertaining as it was 5 years ago.

IDK, board just isn't what it once was.

I bolded what I think is the main issue. The better and funnier posters are leaving both by choice and from timeouts. When they make a PG rated joke with just a little bit of innuendo that most consider funny, they get whacked with a timeout. The result is that if they do come back after the timeout, they are posting on eggshells.

Taking the 'talking about chicks' element out of this board has really put a muzzle on things.  Can you imagine going to the Winghouse with your buddies and the rule was, "hey, no talking about the waitresses.  That's disrespectful.  Let's stick to politics and what kind of motor oil you use."

Another issue is that we're all getting older, more tired, and more boring.

Another issue is the same people #####ing about the same things over and over again.

There is more sex talk allowed at church.

Had you insulted Dodds like that as @Bruce Dickinson did you wouldn't have been banned at all.  In fact, you could pretty much call him every name in the book and you probably would not only have NOT been banned, you would have won the day with all the likes you got from the left of center posters.  They're a protected class here at FBG.
Aren’t Joe and Dodds close friends?  Always found it strange how Joe didn’t have his buddies back.

This place has more ***OFFICIAL*** threads than any forum I've ever visited. It makes navigating the forum kinda painful. I made a similar topic about this a few months ago, and everyone jumped down my throat. I guess they're cool with people like me not visiting the site anymore.

It's an in-joke, And of course we love people on the board. The whole "penis" thread being brought up was funny. The FFA is not in a death spiral. The people make it what it is. As a reader, the whole exchange was funny, not hostile.

I used to check in all the time but now maybe 1-2 times a day if I have a break at work.  I did not think I would but I really miss the yoga pants and who is hottest threads.  There were good entertainment.

The FFA seems slower but maybe people are busier.   The Politics forum is the one dying a slow death.  Seems like only the same 20-30 people post in there now. The good thing though is they are not in the FFA anymore.

Hello all, I just returned from a little vacation.

Can we discuss specifics on suspensions here?  Is that bad form?

I don’t think so.  @Joe Bryanthas done great job doing an almost impossible job.  He made a wise choice in separating the political talk out of the FFA.  He’s also done a ton of work modeling the behaviors he is looking for.  I used to be very critical of Joe but he gets huge props from me for keeping the political talk alive.  And the environment in there has gotten incredibly better the last few years.  It’s one of the best forums on the internet, never-mind the fantasy football community.

I'll be here until either Joe gets tired of our stupidity and shuts it down, or I die.

I know places like this are ageing out, but I don't care. This is my community and I've made some of my dearest friends here over the last 20 years. I'm not letting that go.

Thanks GB. I know there are lots of criticisms of me and how we run it and all that. Plenty are valid I'm sure. But for the bottom line, there's a lot of good stuff like you're saying that's come out of here. And I'm glad for that. Thanks for being part of this community.

Of course some of the criticisms are valid. You and the other staff are human beings and make mistakes. The rest of us don't help sometimes, though.

I shudder to think how long ago this place would have closed its doors if (oh, to pick someone entirely at random..... let's go with that imbecile) Uruk-Hai ran it.

Same here. It isn’t the same as it was 15 years ago but neither are we.

It's interesting to compare...

...the usernames of all the people with multiple posts in this thread who don't post anymore...

...to the usernames of all the people with multiple posts in this thread...who still do.

But to the bigger point, I think his post is most definitely good posting.

1. Post in threads you like.

2. Skip over threads you don't like.

3. Respond to people you enjoy responding to.

4. Skip over people you don't enjoy responding to.

5. Avoid personal insults.
